### Most mentioned pros

- The platform improved visibility into financial and operational performance while reducing the manual effort required for monthly reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Datarails is helping solve challenges around version control, manual consolidation, and lack of a single source of truth across our forecasting and reporting processes.
- It has helped me automate our P&Ls using our newly developed data warehouse, and it’s also helped us spot issues in the warehouse along the way, which was an added perk. Because portions of our data warehouse have been delayed, our Datarails implementation has been delayed as well.

### Most mentioned cons

- Lack of training for more theoretical and complex actions in the backend of data rails, I want to be able to do what my integration specialist was doing but the information is limited to be able to do that.

- Sometimes frustrating when a specific period is being refreshed and all values are £Nil instead of previously refreshed data.

Datarails is helping solve challenges around version control, manual consolidation, and lack of a single source of truth across our forecasting and reporting processes. Previously, we relied heavily on multiple Excel files with manual links, which created inefficiencies, increased risk of errors, and made it difficult to ensure consistency across outputs.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Datarails is helpful in bridging the gap between Excel-based workflows and a more centralized FP&A system. It allows us to maintain flexibility in our existing models while improving version control, collaboration, and data consistency. The integration with our accounting system and ability to automate reporting processes are also strong benefits, particularly for reducing manual consolidation and improving visibility across teams. Overall, it’s a good step toward standardizing our forecasting and reporting processes without fully disrupting how the team currently works.

#### Cons

The platform still requires significant setup and alignment to fully realize its value, particularly around data structure, dimensional consistency, and ownership of inputs. There are also limitations in handling more complex, highly customized models, which means we still rely heavily on Excel outside the system. Additionally, performance and usability can sometimes lag when working with larger datasets, and there is a learning curve for teams to adopt new workflows. More flexibility in modeling and clearer governance around data inputs would improve overall effectiveness.

#### Reasons for choosing Datarails

Price point and number of features. Customer support.

#### Reasons for switching to Datarails

Integration with Excel and flexibility of the product.

Datarails has exceeded my expectations, especially given their patience when we experienced delays implementing our data warehouse.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Datarails is easy to use, especially if you’re already familiar with Excel. It has helped me automate our P&Ls using our newly developed data warehouse, and it’s also helped us spot issues in the warehouse along the way, which was an added perk. Because portions of our data warehouse have been delayed, our Datarails implementation has been delayed as well. We were worried we might run out of time, but Datarails has continued to support us even though we’ve gone beyond the originally expected timeline. I’m very grateful for their patience.

#### Cons

I was hoping to incorporate employer-paid federal, state, and local income tax tables into our employee cost budgeting, since all of our corporate employees work remotely across different states. However, Datarails didn’t have tax tables available, and neither did our payroll vendor. We could have done our own research and built the tax tables ourselves, but the time and effort required to keep them updated didn’t feel justifiable. I understand that most of Datarails’ clients either don’t budget at this level of detail or they provide their own tax tables, but I was really hoping Datarails would have something we could use.

#### Reasons for choosing Datarails

Ease of use, as I am already very familiar with Excel

Overall, our experience with Datarails has been positive. The platform provides a strong balance between the flexibility of Excel and the automation, governance, and reporting capabilities of a modern FP&A solution. It has helped streamline budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and executive dashboarding while allowing our team to continue working within familiar Excel-based workflows.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Datarails allowed us to leverage our existing Excel-based financial models while adding automation, centralized data management, and reporting capabilities. We particularly valued the ability to consolidate data from multiple sources, automate recurring reporting processes, create dashboards for executive and board-level reporting, and maintain version control without completely rebuilding our finance workflows. The platform improved visibility into financial and operational performance while reducing the manual effort required for monthly reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. The flexibility to continue working within Excel was a significant advantage for our FP&A team compared to more rigid planning solutions.

#### Cons

Performance can slow when working with large datasets and complex reports. Some advanced reporting and dashboard customization features were less intuitive than expected.

#### Reasons for choosing Datarails

Ease of use, centralized hub of data for finance and operations.

Overall I would highly recommend Datarails for any company with large data sets that come in from several different sources and require employees to pull multiple data reports to generate monthly, or any repeating, reports. There are a lot of ways to customize data imported into Datarails and reports generated by Datarails.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I like how Datarails can automate the data import process and report generation. With Datarails I can set up the reports and data import once and generate our monthly reports in minutes. They also have great representatives who will help you get things set up and teach you how to use Datarails. I have been mostly working with [sensitive content hidden] and they have been exceptionally helpful in making sure our data is importing correctly and making sure I know how to use Datarails like a pro.

#### Cons

We had some issues getting our data to import correctly into Datarails. We are a very security conscious company and that can make our data hard to access even by third parties we want to have access to our data. [sensitive content hidden] at Datarails was very great at working with our IT team to find a way to connect to our data, despite the difficulties.

Overall my opinion is very positive, it is certainly better than the system that it replaced, in terms of ease of use and the variety of scenarios where it can be more easily used. I just need it to be more up to the minute.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

Easily comprehensible and legible formulae for directly integrating our internal accounting system to the formats we use to communicate to the business.

Overall I am pleased with it. I do feel a bit like we were undersold on the complexity of the system and all the mappings as it has taken us a bit a time to really learn how to get our data in a format that we want and is meaningful for us. It took more time than expected to learn how the system works and how everything flows. There is more troubleshooting that expected but it did provide more context around how the system works to be able to be more efficient and faster at finding issues. Now that we have been through one budget round - the ability to quickly pull data out and refresh it and slice and dice it in a way that our ERP system (Netsuite) couldn't, has been instrumental in finding things in our financials that we have been blind to previously.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Now that we have the set up complete, the way we are able to build reports and view our data in ways that Netsuite was limited on has been amazing. It is eliminating journal entries in the system that were done just for certain reporting views as we can now do those in Datarails and they automatically calculate. We are able to add non-finanical metrics into the system for reporting faster than we could before and able to get operations different views of the results to help them make decisions faster for the business. [sensitive content hidden] was our implementation rep and has been amazing. He was extremely patient, responsive, and thorough in walking us through everything. He ensured we were comfortable and getting the data we needed and let us drive the meetings on what our priorities were.

#### Cons

It does take a bit of set up to get your data in the system and to be workable. Initially I thought it was more of a plug and play system (which for pulling your actuals out of your ERP it can be) but when entering your forecast and budgets in, you need to ensure you have all mappings and configurations correct. There is more troubleshooting that expected but it did provide more context around how the system works to be able to be more efficient and faster at finding

#### Reasons for choosing Datarails

We needed something more than what we had but we are not that large of a company to justify a large expensive system.

#### Reasons for switching to Datarails

We needed a more robust system specifically to put in our budgets and slice and dice data differently.

### From Skeptic to Believer

As an overall natural skeptic, Datarails has given me a new perspective on my financial tech stack. As an ASC with BI coming from multiple sources, we needed a platform that could truly integrate everything, not just promise it. Datarails centralizes our disparate systems, connects them to historical financials, and is on its way to becoming a single source of truth for budgeting and forecasting. It's eliminated the manual visual build-out headaches and freed up time for actual FP&A discussions, making it easier to keep leadership aligned without building custom reports from scratch.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The platform's ability to centralize multiple data sources seamlessly. We integrated two EHR/ERP systems, Paycom for HCM, and two other applications, and Datarails was able to crosswalk our chart of accounts historically to connect financials and aggregate data without losing anything. For those of us who still live in Excel, it remains flexible for ad-hoc reporting. The dashboards have simplified executive visibility into key clinical and operational metrics. And the customer service team follows a servant-leadership model, is highly responsive, and is always willing to help.

#### Cons

The Storyboards narrative tool can sometimes glitch if you don't size or format the visuals to the board's native resolution.

#### Reasons for choosing Datarails

Greater Ease of Use compared to the Vena Solution Excel-driven framework.

Really has given us a clear vision on how we consolidate two companies together and streamline reporting and is going to add so much value to the visibility we can give our stakeholders

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The speed at which you can pull data and slice and dice it from our financial system is impressive. It’s given us the ability to create reports and roll-ups that would have been a distant dream in the past. It did take us a while to get used to, and we’ve been using it while also building our budget within it, but now I KNOW it’s going to make our day-to-day so much easier going forward. I also LOVE that you can drill into balances to get transactional-level detail, rather than having to go back to our system to analyse it. WIN WIN! Our implementation provider [sensitive content hidden] was excellent and so helpful at taking our dilemmas about how to do something in Datarails and giving us a practical method

#### Cons

It’s quite annoying that Datarails is so sensitive to capitalization and lowercase. I wish it could simply default the parameters to one or the other, so I don’t have to worry about case differences.

#### Reasons for switching to Datarails

Not advanced enough, needed to reset parameters/dimensions that live outside of netsuite

#### Vendor response

Thank you Sam for this wonderful review! The ability to slice and dice data at speed, drill all the way down to transactional detail, and consolidate two companies for streamlined reporting is exactly what we built Datarails for. We are so glad it is going to add real value to your stakeholder reporting. We will absolutely pass your kind words on to Mihir. It is great to hear he turned your dilemmas into practical solutions. We are lucky to have him.

### Datarails, your new best friend

Datarails has saved us significant time each week by streamlining the consolidation of our financial statements. Previously, we managed multiple ERPs with different general ledger account structures and configurations, which meant we spent an excessive amount of time manually consolidating our financials. Now that we have set up all our mappings in Datarails, our financials are consistently consolidated and always reconcile accurately.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Datarails significantly simplifies the often challenging process of data consolidation, particularly when working with multiple ERPs. The dashboards offer clear and intuitive insights that are valuable to different stakeholders throughout the organization. We've consistently found their customer support to be helpful, and the integration and implementation process has been smooth and positive for us.

#### Cons

Our primary issue with Datarails is the cumbersome nature of its Excel Add-In feature. While it functions well, Excel workbooks that contain multiple tabs and Datarails references tend to take a long time to load and refresh. We would prefer if the add-on were more streamlined and efficient, rather than feeling so bloated.

#### Reasons for choosing Datarails

Datarails provided more value, support, realistic expectations, and features.

### The reporting tool that everyone wants from the other BI platforms but can't match!

Before Datarails we had to rely on the standard basic reports directly from our ERP and any customized summary reports had many complex manual mappings that often resulted in errors in the data. Now those summaries are all automated and reconciled automatically and it saves a ton of time and low value effort.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The tool is extremely flexible and really helps automate the manual mapping files that are typically used in summary reports and consolidations. The ability to track version changes and share data across multiple user groups makes the tool very valuable in scenario analysis. Compared to other SaaS companies, I have never had an onboarding experience like Datarails. The team instinctively knew where we wanted to get and efficiently got us to that goal without making the process overwhelming. I was expecting to have to learn a whole new language and buy huge training manuals from Amazon, that could not have been further from the truth.

#### Cons

Given the complexity of the source data and the functionality of the tool it can be difficult to troubleshoot when you first start using the tool. But again, the implementation and support teams have been right there to support and teach you how to fix those problems. I hope that I can find more time to experiment more in the system to pull in other sources of data to further enhance the forecasting and budgeting processes.

#### Reasons for choosing Datarails

Financial reporting focus, the other BI tools just can't compete and are not able to build these types of dynamic reports.

We have been using DataRails for over 5 years and use it daily for all of our financial reporting, and because of how much time it saves us, we definitely get our money's worth. It is a highly effective tool, provided your team commits to maintaining clean data mapping.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Having all of our data in one place - pulling from our ERP, data warehouses, and manual inputs - has been very useful and has significantly reduced the endless manual work the team used to do. There is little friction when setting up new inputs as the layout of the system is pretty user friendly. Files are read quickly by the system so we always have the latest data to hand in a few minutes. Setting up tables within excel is as easy and dragging and dropping your metrics in. We use DataRails daily for all of our financial reporting so we definitely make the most out of the price - customer support and online help is always quick to respond to any questions we have as well. AI integration is coming soon so we are excited to see the further insights it can bring.

#### Cons

If your data infrastructure isn’t set up or maintained properly, it can create a lot of confusion within the team. That often means spending extra time searching for the right metrics and, in the worst case, reporting the wrong numbers. It’s up to our team to keep the mapping airtight; otherwise, it can quickly turn into a headache when you have to go back and rework the data structure.

The tool is useful for aggregation of financial data and creating financial reporting. Response times and customer service from my implementation manager [sensitive content hidden] have been fantastic. Use of the product certainly reduces manual manipulation of data to aggregate from different ERPs, however, by solving this problem there are other areas that require investment such as communication with the Datarails team to stay on the same page about data sources and calculations. Use of the product requires getting up to speed on the environment and features in Excel. I think these areas are intuitive enough for a finance person but potentially a little steep for a casual user outside of FP&A (even if just using in Excel). The product does its job well, if you are lacking in top notch Excel talent or data sources are unwieldly this software can provide significant value at the fraction of what it would cost to make a new hire with the requisite skills.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

- Automated aggregation of data from different ERP sources. - Allows user to work within excel framework. - Pre-populated templates get you started.

#### Cons

- Data import from older sources can be unreliable and require support from IT, reducing autonomy for finance team. - Online environment and Excel features have a bit of a learning curve. - Handing over data aggregation and calculation reduces knowledge of outputs and creates reliance on a third party. Datarails team uses best practices and executes at a high level but you still need to make sure you are on the same page about terms and calculations.

#### Vendor response

Thank you Evan for the thoughtful review! We are glad the automated aggregation, Excel framework, and pre-populated templates are delivering value, and that our team has been responsive and executing at a high level. On the older data source challenges, Datarails has a strong track record with historical data, and reliability issues with imports typically stem from the source systems themselves, mainly QBD or SQL servers. Your Customer Success Manager can help identify where the friction is coming from and find the best path forward. Please do not hesitate to reach out if there is anything we can help with!

Overall it's been a positive experience. As an FP&A team, having real-time budget vs actuals visibility without the manual legwork has made a genuine difference to how we plan and report. The onboarding process was smooth, largely thanks to the support we received. There are a few areas around dashboard customization that could be improved, but the core functionality does exactly what we need it to do.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The Excel integration stands out the most — we didn't have to overhaul how we work, it just slotted in and made everything smoother. Data consolidation that used to take hours is now much more straightforward, and the dashboards make it easy to present financials clearly. The customer support has also been a highlight. [sensitive content hidden] was fantastic, super patient, and guided us through the whole setup process.

#### Cons

The widget customization can be limiting at times. Fonts, font sizes, and formatting options aren't as flexible as I'd like especially for KPI widgets where getting a consistent look takes more effort than it should. When you're building dashboards for senior leadership, those small formatting details matter more than you'd think.

Overall, my experience with DataRails has been very positive. It saves significant time, streamlines processes, and displays data clearly and professionally. Despite the occasional technical hiccup, the value it brings in efficiency, accuracy, and visibility far outweighs the drawbacks.

#### Pros

DataRails is great at automation and consolidation. It removes a huge amount of manual work from the reporting process, allowing key data to flow through quickly and accurately. The automation features mean repetitive tasks take seconds, and the consolidation tools make it easy to combine multiple data sources into one clean, reliable view.

#### Cons

Occasionally, bugs in the system can cause issues or interruptions. While they’re not constant, they can be frustrating when working to tight deadlines. However, they are usually resolved without long-term impact.

A very smooth transition, the team always had the answer to my queries during the entire setup process.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5

- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The dashboards make it so easy to read all financial information and draw insights you wouldn't be able to without using it. All our team are able to access all areas of the online database without issues of operating software and obtain information that would usually be in the form of time consuming excel spreadsheets.

#### Cons

Overall the software is great. I think some of the templates they give you in terms of reporting structure could be improved but the good thing is if you already have your own structure set up you can tailor it to fit with you/
