What is Looker?

Looker is a cloud-based business intelligence (BI) platform designed to explore and analyze data. The solution helps businesses to capture and analyze data from multiple sources and make data-driven decisions. Looker provides business teams the ability to analyze supply chains, market digitally, quantify customer value, interpret customer behavior, and evaluate distribution processes. Users can also "view source" to understand how the data they are viewing is being manipulated. The dashboards allow presenting data and insights using customizable charts, graphs and reports. The perfect solution for our stage business

I could not be happier with Looker. My one hesitation in recommending it is that other tools seemed to be able to provide 80% of the value at 20% of the cost, but I've only demoed those tools and not actually used them so I'm not sure if they could actually deliver.

Pros

Looker is incredibly easy to use for a casual user, which most of our users are. As soon as your email is activated, you have access to the product and new users need very little direction to start getting value out of it.

Cons

Relative to other BI tools, the advanced charting functionality is somewhat limited, but frankly that's not the main reason we bought Looker. Data scientists can use another tool of their choice, we have Looker for people who aren't data scientists.

Reasons for choosing Looker

LookML gave Looker an advantage because it allowed us to pre-define a framework for our users to need. We didn't feel Chartio did this quite as well. Looker is also better funded and I felt more confident that they would continue to add features and fill in gaps in the product in the future.

Reasons for switching to Looker

Tableau is an antiquated architecture (permanent license desktop app) and was going to be prohibitively expensive to roll out to the whole company. Having used it, I also had concerns about adoption since there's more of a learning curve.

Looker Review

Pros

Easy to create dashboards without engineers needing to write code.

Cons

Still not very good yet for a multi-tenant embedded environment. Needs a lot of work to set up and the API is slow.

Reasons for switching to Looker

Too difficult to build dashboards without using the engineering team.

Looker is a decent data visualization tool

Looker was an attempt to deliver a single source of truth dashboard to senior leaders. Because much of our data lives in different warehouses, there wasn't one link to click for these people to find this information. Because of the rapidly changing business we were engaged in, Looker became stale quite quickly and we failed to resource it's in-house support, so it didn't end up being very useful.

Pros

Logging in the first time is simple and straightforward. I also had good experiences with chat support to solve small access and navigation issues.

Cons

Looker tables are not easy to dive into. I found them more helpful for high level information and trend identification. Without a team of Data Engineers or Analysts, Looker is a fairly static tool with some canned reports.

Looker

Pros

It's great at getting an overall view of where my team stands budget wise and being able to break it down as much as needed. I love that I'm able to see performance statistics in real time.

Cons

Looker takes some time to figure out how to navigate and building out the reports can be a bit confusing and time consuming.

Data mining with a professional touch

Great tool it gives the organisation a touch of professionalism in data analysis processes.

Pros

Modeling platform which allows the me to codify data visualization using a proprietary modeling language. The self-service visualization tools that allows end users to access the benefits of data analysis. Looker has one of the best user interface on market very easy to use and in my organisation it very useful because it saves time and costs of training.

Cons

Integration with my business has not been difficult at all but the difficulty came from the product's need for a lot of processing power and its use of a lot of RAM.

Reasons for choosing Looker

Looker is very easy to use.

Reasons for switching to Looker

functionality and user interface.
