## Reviews summary

- Overall rating: 4.6/5
- Total reviews: 26,620

### Secondary ratings

- Ease of use: 4.6/5
- Customer support: 4.2/5
- Value for money: 4.5/5
- Functionality: 4.6/5

### Rating distribution

- 5 stars: 19,681 reviews (74%)

- 3 stars: 1,076 reviews (4%)
- 2 stars: 208 reviews (1%)
- 1 star: 321 reviews (1%)

### Most mentioned pros

- For example, while handling transactions for projects associated with Medilenz (https://medilenz.com), PayPal provided a convenient way to receive payments from clients in different countries. Although the fees could be more competitive, the platform's reliability, security, and global reach make it a practical choice for international transactions.
- It serves its purpose well for immediate, day-to-day financial needs in commercial construction. While it is not ideal for massive subcontractor payouts or handling multi-state compliance fees, it remains a highly reliable tool for quick, smaller-scale transactions that can be managed easily without cluttering up a multi-monitor workstation.
- what i most like about that program is that you can receive any money transactions from anywhere even if it is forbidden in your country as it is a universal tool to send and receive money.

### Most mentioned cons

- Customer support can be difficult to reach if a larger transaction gets flagged or delayed. While it is great for basic expense management, it lacks the deep integration required to sync perfectly with advanced document workflow automation and enterprise database management systems
- I also found that products like PayPal Working Capital, while convenient, can become costly due to the fixed fees and automatic repayment structure, which may put pressure on cash flow during slower business periods.
- There are occasional delays in fund availability, and account reviews may temporarily restrict access to funds, which can be frustrating for businesses. While bugs are not common, some users may experience occasional issues with payment processing or account verification that require additional follow-up.

I've been using PayPal for years, and it's become one of my go-to payment platforms for both personal and business transactions. Whether I'm paying for online purchases, sending money to friends or family, or receiving payments, it's consistently been fast, reliable, and easy to use. The app is straightforward to navigate, and I appreciate how securely it stores payment methods without requiring me to enter my card information every time I make a purchase. Transfers, payment history, and account management are all easy to access, and the buyer protection offered on many purchases provides added peace of mind. One feature I especially like is the flexibility. I can link multiple bank accounts and cards, send money quickly, and use PayPal at countless online retailers. It's widely accepted and integrates with many websites, making checkout simple and convenient. Overall, PayPal has proven to be a dependable payment solution that makes online transactions easy and secure. It's a service I use regularly and would recommend to anyone looking for a trusted digital wallet.

### Unpredictable Account Suspensions with No Transparency

Initially, my experience with PayPal was positive because it was intuitive, convenient, and widely accepted. It made accepting payments for my crochet pattern business easy, and features like invoicing and transaction history worked well. However, everything changed when my account was suddenly and permanently suspended despite only selling legitimate digital patterns through Ravelry. Customer support repeatedly provided generic responses without explaining the reason for the suspension or offering any meaningful appeal process. While PayPal excels in ease of use and is a trusted payment option for customers, the possibility of losing access to your account without explanation makes it difficult for me to recommend relying on it as your primary payment processor.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

PayPal is easy to use, widely accepted, and integrates seamlessly with many online marketplaces like Ravelry. Setting up payments is straightforward, invoicing is simple if you need it, and its widespread recognition gives customers confidence during checkout. The transaction history also makes it fairly easy to keep track of payments and basic business expenses.

#### Cons

The biggest drawback is how unpredictable their account suspensions can be. My account was permanently suspended after processing legitimate sales through Ravelry, a trusted marketplace for crochet and knitting patterns. PayPal never explained what specific policy I had violated, only providing generic responses and no opportunity to appeal or resolve the issue. While I didn't encounter technical bugs with the platform itself, having an account permanently limited without transparency is a far more serious issue than any software glitch. Considering the fees PayPal charges businesses, the lack of support and accountability significantly reduces the value of the service.

My overall experience has been positive. PayPal is one of those platforms I keep using because it’s dependable, widely accepted, and simple to work with, even though the fees and occasional account issues can be annoying . For business and marketing use, it’s still a practical choice because customers know it and it helps keep checkout friction low. After nearly 18 years, I’d call it reliable and convenient, with a few long standing drawbacks that you just learn to work around.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

PayPal has been apart of my arsenal for 18 years now and there is a reason for that. It is very simple to use and the average Joe can hop on there send and receive a payment with literally no friction. When asking for payment from clients and using PayPal as the preferred payment method most people trust it as it’s well known name. It works very well with invoicing and keeping all my transactions organized and sorted. Anytime I have had issues reaching out to PayPal customer support has been as easy as possible and normally most issues get resolved fairly quickly.

#### Cons

The fees have to be the biggest downside to using PayPal when it comes to doing volume and international payments. Account holds happen often when doing volume with these guys and it holds up cash flow which is extremely frustrating. Some parts of PayPal fee very outdated compared to other payment processing companies on the market.

#### Reasons for switching to PayPal

I made the switch because PayPal has been less friction

My overall experience with the PayPal is highly positive I would say that PayPal is the central application and portal to get money from most of the international vendors who are ready to process payments within a matter of hours and even if I am doing some kind of invoicing or filing taxes they have all the documents available and the best part is that itconnect straight to my back

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

PayPal is the easiest method to get paid globally or within the United States and I have been experiencing the services of PayPal since the last five years it is the only way to get payments in my bank account they only charge the nominal fee of about 4% per transaction and I I have rarely used their customer support services free are easily available and there are no lags in the transfers of the money that has been sent to me every time I use PayPal I feel I am in safe hands

#### Cons

The transfer time or I should say the days that it takes to convert the money from an international currency to the national currency is too high I believe that if it was a few hours instead of a few days it would have been great for PayPal and all of its users

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

The ease of use is excellent for handling quick transactions out in the field. When needing to process immediate payments or reimburse small expenses related to heavy civil operations, the invoicing features are straightforward. It also links seamlessly to a personal bank account for tracking specific financial transactions separately from a commercial profile.

#### Cons

Customer support can be difficult to reach if a larger transaction gets flagged or delayed. While it is great for basic expense management, it lacks the deep integration required to sync perfectly with advanced document workflow automation and enterprise database management systems

1. The Checkout Experience: Flawless For day-to-day shopping, the experience is nearly perfect. The "One-Click" Habit: When you see the yellow PayPal button on a checkout page, there is a physical sense of relief. You don't have to get up to find your wallet, and you don't have to trust a random online boutique with your raw credit card number. The Shield Effect: Knowing that if a package gets lost or a seller ghosts you, PayPal will step in and actually fight for your refund is a safety net that makes online shopping significantly less stressful. 2. The App & Interface: Functional but Boring Using PayPal's actual platform (rather than just its checkout button) is where the shine starts to wear off. A "Utility" Vibe: Unlike modern, sleek fintech apps (like Cash App or Revolut) that feel fast and social, PayPal feels like software built by a bank. It is dense, a bit cluttered, and clearly trying to balance too many features at once—from crypto trading to savings accounts and rewards. Dispute Drama: If you ever have to actually file a dispute, the interface becomes incredibly clinical and bureaucratic. It gets the job done, but it feels like filing taxes rather than resolving a quick consumer issue. 3. The Business/Freelance Experience: High-Stress If you transition from a casual buyer to a seller or freelancer, the "relationship" with PayPal changes entirely. It shifts from a helpful helper to a strict, unpredictable supervisor. The Fee Tax: Watching $10 to $50 vanish from every major invoice feels painful, especially when competitors offer cheaper bank-to-bank transfers. The "Will They Freeze It?" Anxiety: There is a persistent, low-level anxiety when holding a large balance in PayPal. Because their automated fraud systems are notoriously aggressive, there is always a fear that a sudden, legitimate transfer will lock up your funds for months with very little human avenue for appeal. The Verdict: Can't Live With It, Can't Live Without It Ultimately, PayPal is an indispensable utility. Even when you find yourself annoyed by its high transaction fees or outdated web layout, you don't delete your account. You keep it because the rest of the world uses it, because it keeps your financial data safe, and because, at the end of the day, it just works.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

When looking at why PayPal remains a dominant force in digital payments, a few standout advantages consistently top the list: 1. Frictionless Checkout Speed -The absolute best part of using PayPal is one-click checkouts. Not having to dig out a physical card, type in a 16-digit number, and manually enter a shipping address every time you buy from a new site is a massive time-saver. You just log in, confirm, and you're done. 2. Robust Buyer Protection - For many, the peace of mind is unmatched. If an item you bought never arrives, or shows up completely different from what was advertised, PayPal’s Purchase Protection program is highly reliable for getting your money refunded. It adds a powerful layer of leverage when dealing with unfamiliar online merchants. 3. High-Tier Information Security -When you pay through PayPal, the merchant never actually sees your credit card or bank details. PayPal acts as a secure buffer. If a storefront you bought from suffers a data breach later on, your actual banking details remain completely safe and unexposed.

#### Cons

While PayPal is incredibly convenient, it is far from perfect. If you ask users and merchants what frustrates them most, a few major pain points consistently stand out: 1. High and Complex Fee Structure For casual buyers, PayPal is mostly free, but for sellers, freelancers, and international users, the fees can be brutal. Seller Fees: Standard domestic transaction fees eat a significant chunk of your revenue. Cross-Border Fees: If you receive money from another country, you get hit with extra international transaction fees. Currency Conversion Markup: PayPal’s exchange rates are notoriously unfavorable compared to mid-market rates, meaning you lose a hidden percentage just converting currency.

I’ve been using PayPal since 2016. As a developer I used to work integrated PayPal in software solutions for my clients. Has the best conversion rate (even better than debit card).

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I usually recommend using PayPal for a more secure transaction to my clients. Invoicing is oso way more easier and rarely has errors or bugs. On the personal side I also prefer paying via PayPal, brings more peace of mind not adding you credit and just pay with your email account.

#### Cons

The transaction fee is quite expensive compared to other payment methods but it safer so, it’s not a big con.

#### Reasons for choosing PayPal

Actually I integrated both on many e-commerce’s but on my own experience, PayPal brings more conversions than stripe

#### Reasons for switching to PayPal

Because some people told me to activate PayPal as payment method and the transactions are way safer (you don’t need to add your credit card number)

There’s an undeniable psychological comfort in knowing that if a random online store scams you, you can simply "open a case." For most, this makes PayPal the "default" for any site they don't 100% trust.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The most loved feature is that you never have to share your credit card or bank details with a merchant. When you check out, you only log into PayPal. This is a massive relief when shopping on smaller or less familiar websites where you might otherwise be hesitant to enter your card info.

#### Cons

This is arguably the biggest complaint. PayPal’s automated security systems are notoriously aggressive. If they detect a "spike" in your sales or a "suspicious" login, they can freeze your balance for 21 to 180 days. For small businesses or freelancers, this can be devastating for cash flow.

#### Reasons for switching to PayPal

These apps are great for splitting a pizza, but they are often restricted to one country (e.g., Venmo is US-only). They also lack robust Buyer Protection; if you pay a stranger on Venmo and they block you, your money is usually gone.

### Reliable for Small Businesses, but Fees Add Up Quickly

Overall, my experience with PayPal has been very positive. It has provided a reliable and professional way to accept payments, send invoices, and manage transactions for my business. The platform is intuitive, widely recognized, and trusted by customers, which helps increase buyer confidence and makes the payment process smoother. While there is room for improvement in areas such as transaction costs, occasional technical issues, and expanded marketing tools, PayPal has remained a valuable part of my business operations. I would recommend it to other small business owners looking for a convenient and established payment processing solution.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

PayPal is easy to use and widely recognized by customers, which makes collecting payments simple and convenient. I appreciate that many customers already have PayPal accounts and feel comfortable using the platform. Creating invoices is straightforward, and funds are generally available quickly, especially if you have the PayPal debit card linked to your account. The integration with online platforms and the ability to accept multiple payment methods have been helpful for running my small business.

#### Cons

The transaction fees can become expensive, especially for small businesses with tight profit margins. Customer service experiences have been inconsistent, and resolving account issues can sometimes take longer than expected. I also found that products like PayPal Working Capital, while convenient, can become costly due to the fixed fees and automatic repayment structure, which may put pressure on cash flow during slower business periods. Accessing PayPal statements for PayPal Credit can be tricky- the bug is the page often won't load and the site encounters issues and error messages when trying to download statements. I wish the PayPal Credit line had an actual card attached to it- not all merchants can take PayPal Credit online.

Overall, PayPal is a reliable and highly convenient tool for everyday online shopping and quick money transfers. It offers great Peace of mind regarding security since it keeps financial details hidden from merchants. However, the high transaction fees for international payments and the difficulty in reaching helpful customer support when an issue arise prevent it from being perfect. It's a solid essential service with some clear areas that need improvement

#### Ratings breakdown

PayPal is incredibly convenient because it is widely accepted by almost every online store, making check out fast and easy. I feel very secure using it since I don't have to share my credit card details with multiple websites, and the mobile app is simple to navigate for everyday shopping and paying back friends.

#### Cons

The transaction fees and currency conversion rates are quite expensive, especially for international payments. I also find the app a bit cluttered with unnecessary features, and it is very frustrating trying to reach a real person and customer support when you have a payment dispute or an issue.

PayPal is useful as a customer payment option, but the business-side experience was mixed. I understand the need for fraud prevention, but the way funds were held and limits were applied felt excessive given that we were already an established ecommerce business. It created unnecessary cash flow problems and added stress to operations. I still see value in offering PayPal because customers recognize and trust it, but I am not a fan of how difficult and restrictive it can be for merchants.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 2/5

#### Pros

PayPal is valuable because it gives customers another trusted payment option at checkout. Some buyers prefer PayPal over entering a credit card directly, so having it available can help reduce friction and potentially improve conversions. Once active, it was useful as an additional payment method for our ecommerce store.

#### Cons

The onboarding and account limitations were frustrating. Even though our business was already established and generating consistent revenue, PayPal held funds for a long time and imposed odd limits while we had to prove we were legitimate. That tied up thousands of dollars in working capital, which is a real problem for a small business trying to manage inventory, shipping, and operating expenses.

My overall experience with PayPal has been positive because it provides a simple, secure, and reliable platform for online payments and money transfers. The service makes it easy to send and receive money, shop online, and handle international transactions without needing to share bank or card details directly with merchants. Its user-friendly interface and mobile app make managing payments convenient, while features like transaction tracking and buyer protection add extra confidence and security. PayPal is also widely accepted by many online stores and businesses, which increases its usefulness for both personal and professional purposes. However, there are some drawbacks, such as transaction fees, occasional delays in fund transfers, and account verification processes that can sometimes be inconvenient. Despite these issues, PayPal remains a trusted and efficient digital payment platform that offers a smooth experience for most online financial activities.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

PayPal is its ability to make online payments fast, secure, and convenient for people all over the world. PayPal allows users to send and receive money easily without sharing sensitive bank or card details directly with sellers, which helps protect personal financial information. It supports international transactions, making it very useful for freelancers, online businesses, and customers who buy products or services from different countries. Another important feature is its buyer and seller protection policy, which gives users confidence while making transactions because disputes and unauthorized payments can be resolved more safely. PayPal also provides a user-friendly interface through its website and mobile app, allowing people to manage payments, track transaction history, and link multiple bank accounts or cards in one place. Its quick payment processing, strong security measures, and global acceptance make PayPal one of the most trusted digital payment platforms in the world.

#### Cons

PayPal is that its transaction fees can sometimes be high, especially for small businesses, freelancers, and international payments. Users may face extra charges for currency conversion, cross-border transactions, or receiving payments, which can reduce overall earnings. Another issue is that PayPal occasionally places limitations or temporary holds on accounts and funds for security reasons, and this can be frustrating when users need immediate access to their money. Some customers also find the dispute resolution process slow or difficult, especially when there is a misunderstanding between buyers and sellers. In addition, customer support experiences may vary, and resolving account-related issues can sometimes take a long time. Although PayPal is widely trusted and convenient, these problems can create inconvenience for users who depend on fast and smooth financial transactions.

My overall experience with PayPal has been mostly positive. I use it because it is simple, clear, and convenient for veryday online payments. The app is easy to understand, and managing payments or checking transaction history is not difficult. I do not use invoicing very often, but it is nice that the option is there. Sometimes there are small issues or delays, but usually nothing serious. In general, PayPal is useful and reliable, but the fees make it a bit less worth it in some cases.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

What I like most about PayPal is how easy it is to use. It makes online payments quick, and I like that I do not have to enter my card details every time. It also feels safe, and it is accepted on many websites.

#### Cons

What I like least about PayPal is the fees, especially for international payments or currency conversion. I think customer support could be better, because solving problems can take too long sometimes.

PayPal is widely considered a "must-have" for online shoppers and small businesses looking for an easy, trusted way to handle payments, but it is less competitive for users who prioritize low transaction fees and fast, human-centered customer support.

Centralized Wallet: Many like having different payment methods, such as bank accounts and credit cards, managed under a single, centralized account. Fast Transfers: Transactions between PayPal accounts are usually instant, and it is a reliable tool for freelancers and small businesses.

#### Cons

High Fees: Transaction fees, particularly for international payments and currency conversion, are considered high compared to competitors. Unexpected Account Holds: PayPal’s automated security systems can freeze funds or place temporary holds on accounts, which can disrupt cash flow for small businesses. Customer Service Issues: Users sometimes experience slow resolution times for complex issues or disputes. Limited Customization: Business tools, specifically in-app invoice customization and reporting, are described as dated or limited. Using Pay pal is the best way to protect one money. No fee, no surcharge for using Paypal. Whether purchasing online or send money to someone, Paypal can ensure your money reaches intended recipient. Instant notification from PayPal to let me know where my dollars went or receive by whom. On top of that, every month, I get monthly statements from PayPal for book keeping purposes, which is the best way to manage, auditing my money, and to avoid overspending over charging or over drafting by vendors. PayPal customer support is top of the lines, and they are very helpful, knowledgeable people to help resolve any issues I may have. Fraudsters and scammers are everywhere where, one can easily become victim for a lifetime before he even realizes it. That is why I am using Paypal.

#### Cons

PayPal is a well rounded developed, so far , I don’t have any issues. But if I do, most time I found out after the hard way before I didn’t read throughly and used PayPal correctly as I should.

Overall, my experience with PayPal has been convenient and easy to use. It is familiar to customers, helps make payments feel secure, and works well for quick online transactions. That said, the fees, occasional fund holds, and delays with support can be frustrating, especially for a business that needs reliable access to payments. So overall, it is useful and trusted, but not always the smoothest option from a business standpoint.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

I liked that PayPal made payments quick, familiar, and easy for customers. It gave people a payment option they already trusted, which helped make checkout feel smoother and more secure.

#### Cons

What I liked least about PayPal was the fees and the occasional holds or delays on funds. It can be convenient, but when payments are held or customer support is slow to resolve an issue, it becomes frustrating for a business that needs quick access to its money.

My experience with PayPal has been mainly positive and I enjoy using the service to handle certain money services.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I love how easy PayPal is to use and how it makes P2P, Person 2 Business, and other payments super quick and easy while also allowing you to use a variety of payment methods to use. Creating invoices are an absolute breeze because it automatically generates the entire form based on just the payment information you used and submitted. It also keeps record of all your transactions for a very long time. I can still view the very first transaction I made from the very first time I used PayPal back in 2019. And the support staff are always very helpful and always get my money returned if I ever report any problems. Some things they do charge very small fees for, like for instance, transferring money from your PayPal balance to a debit card instantly. Depending on the transfer amount, will determine the fee you are accessed for using the instant transfer option, which still isn't very much.

#### Cons

The security checkpoints can be a bit of a pain in the neck oftentimes and they seem to hit you at literally each time you login. Not much of a fan of that.

### Great For P2P Payments, Banking Needs Work

If you keep it to the basics, it’s pretty good at paying people… Literally other people, but their banking products need some work.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

PayPal is great for what it was originally designed for: paying people. It’s also really good to use to pull money from various account into one account, if you ever have the need to do so.

#### Cons

In using the debit card, or if you use it as a bank account, it will sometimes randomly decline transactions (which can be super embarrassing), and even make transfers seem impossible because of another financial institution… when in reality, PayPal is the culprit. This happened to me with a mortgage payment at one point and left me nothing short of livid. The other institution showed no attempt to even move funds… Their customer service is also terrible in these situations; feels like they just have someone on the phone to answer the phone.
