The most complete software for geoscientists
I do recommend that you don't panic too much at first because learning how to use petrel is really rewarding.
PROSThis has got to be the most powerful tool for geoscientists, it is excellent for doing well correlations (whether they are stratigraphic or structural), analysing well logs, or even seismic processing and interpretation, and if we take into account it's eclipse module you can even predict how the production will be, which is awesome in risk analysis
CONSPrepare to be confused and overwhelmed when you open up petrel for the first time, it has so many features in a really disorganized layout that will mean it will be a nightmare for you to find anything when you are training in petrel.

Static Model in Petrel
On one occasion, I was assigned a project, where I had to represent 77 inverse faults (complex structural model), I had to installed Petrel 2014 and work structural framework to represent the seismic model.
PROSThe way to integrate the stratigraphic model, the structural Geology, the sedimentological model & the petrophysical model. With Petrel is possible to visualize the reservoir in 3D, the reduce the geological uncertainty and improve the explotation planes.
CONSThe well correlations is good but it can be improved.

Excellent software for analyzing every stage of a reservoir model, allowing its final integration.
The 3D visualization and better understanding of any reservoir.
PROSI like how easy it is for using, because it allows use it just following a predetermined workflow, but also one can change many parameters when it is used by an expert user.
CONSI could say, the weakness existent for seismic processing, it would be great to have the possibility of work a reservoir model in their fully.

Very powerful platform for petroleum engineering applications
I highly recommend Petrel for its capabilities and usefulness.
PROSThis is an extremely powerful and versatile platform that supports a wide range of data inputs such as well location, formation data, and well logging, etc. As a researcher in petroleum engineering, I really find the software to be incredibly helpful. The interface with Eclipse for reservoir simulation is particularly handy, and the ability to communicate easily with other Schlumberger software is a plus.
CONSOne major downside of the software is the cost, especially for smaller organizations. However, if budget is not an issue, then this is definitely a great tool for petroleum engineering applications.

Excellent software for seismic interpretation
Petrel is an excellent software, I recommend it for anyone who can afford it. It has allowed us in our company to reduce risk when drilling for new prospects.
PROSPetrel is an excellent alternative for seismic interpretation. Being capable to easily visualize both 2D and 3D seismic data, process it, and interpreter it by picking horizons, drawing faults and even using seismic attributes makes it a great tool.
CONSIt's correlation environment is not really confortable and while picking on well logs it can be extremely buggy and frustrating. Seismic migration requires a lot of power.

Visualization of stimulation results and exploitation strategy designs to maximize the production.
Great contribution in the visualization and elaboration of exploitation projects
PROSWhich is software that is responsible, among other things, for representing the geological structure of the site. It allows the user to interpret seismic data, build the reservoir models, visualize the results of a possible stimulation and design exploitation strategies to maximize the production of the deposit. Designed to build geological models, its true intention is to eliminate the need to use many tools and be a software that conducts seismic information to the results of a simulation.
CONSIt is the part of which only works in the premises of the elaborated projects, allowing only the modification in its origin of the base where it was created

A very compkete software for reservoir modeling
Modeling reservoirs, uodaying maps, fault interpretation
PROSI dont need different enviroments to manage the seismic data, of register and structural i can integrate them and generate curtains that shape the area of interest, i use to generate windows for horizontal well drilling
CONSIt is not very friendly for people who are not familiar whit database and statistical terms that are the key to have high certainty in the model to generate.

It is an exceptional integrated software, generating the static and dynamic model of the deposit.
The interactive with the user is the most important aspect of Petrel, its design allows to be friendly. The graphics, colors, 2D and 3D images make it unique. It allows loading, editing and viewing data quickly.
CONSIt requires a computer (super pc) with a lot of storage capacity, processing and video card. The platform works locally and does not allow interaction with other network users.

Used the application mostly to import/export data from customers. While trying to play a little bit with it I found that it is confusing at first where everything its located. It takes a while to start getting used to the workflows

One of the most popular software for the oil and gas industry
Making models of subsurface formations using data from boreholes.
CONSI think that there should be a free trial version of this software, but I understand that it's purpose is to be used strictly proffessional.
