Great for small business

Pros

QuickBooks is easy to use once it is set up. I prefer the desktop version over the online but both are valuable tools for a small business.

Cons

Customer service is hard to get to a live person. Once there they will try to help but it is difficult to call and wait on hold.

Not for the lighthearted

Pros

It can do it all, budget tracking, forecasting, depositing, invoicing, etc. It will do everything your business needs, even payroll if you pay extra for it.

Cons

It is not easy to learn, if you're a small business just jumping into the program, it's going to be overwhelming. There are helps and tutorials, and a huge community in the forums with answers to probably all of your questions, but it is a lot of work to get it to work.

Personal problem I ran into, with Quickbooks Desktop was, using different languages for inventory messed with the software and wouldn't recognize the items I already had in stock, it would have me recreate the item from the invoice menu. Giant headache figuring it out.

Well known so transferable skills

Overall it worked for the documentations that were needed, however the admin functions and ease of use didn't always save time.

Pros

Many companies use this, so customers are familiar with what is needed to fulfill their duties. One there are several vendors and several users it gets a little muddy, and also making sure that everyone who is "working in your book" is speaking the same language

Cons

In some cases it gets difficult to find what your looking for, there are so many options to get to the same place it can be easy to get lost in the system and not find what is needed.

Professional tool

Accounting used to be a manual and slow process. Now it's super easy to have all the information you need to have your finances right, once and for all.

Pros

I like the fact that it has everything an accountant could ever need.

Cons

It can be a bit difficult to learn how to use it. But accounting is a bit difficult at first, too.

De-facto standard SMB accounting application

Has all the bells and whistles, not super-intuitive but getting better. Integrated payment processing, a lot of third-party extensions. Cross-border transactions and payments are not supported well though.

Pros

Integrations with banks, integrated payment system.

Cons

Cross-border payments and foreign currency.

Easy inventory program

I would recommend QB Enterprise for small to medium businesses that need to track inventory.

Pros

The QB Enterprise software is surprisingly easy to use. Setting up the vendors and customers may take a little bit longer because you can be specific on the markup percentages for each customer for each item in your inventory. The rest of the software, for the most part, operates like any other newer QB software for accounts payable, receivables, reports and payroll.
The drop down menu for inventory offers quite a few options and I ended up customizing reports to retrieve a large amount of data in order to do rebates with the vendors.

Cons

Not many cons. The biggest is setting up vendors, customers and the inventory. You will need to key in all inventory or import from excel. Be careful what you name each product so that you can recognize it or cross reference the product. Setting up vendors for cost and sale price and related fields does take time for new entries.

Pros

Quickbooks for business

My overall experience with Quickbooks has been great! I would recommend the program to small business owners.

Pros

What I like about Quickbooks is that is easy to use and affordable for small businesses. Here you can create invoices and keep track of the invoices. It shows you when a client opens and views the invoice. You can keep track of your payments and Quickbooks allows for multiple payment methods. It links to your business account for easy tracking of expenses and at the end of the year, you get a report for your taxes.

Cons

I haven't had any issues using Quickbooks. It's affordable and simple to use. Customer service has been very fast proficient.

Quick books for wholesaler

We do all of our invoicing through quickbooks. It’s been good, but as our company has grown, I feel as if we’re out growing it. It doesn’t seem to meet all of our requirements currently.

Pros

Plenty of capabilities to add a multitude of inventory items. Ability to link multiple users.

Cons

The specific one we have doesn’t include a ‘back ordered’ option. This puts a huge constraint on us to be diligent about back ordered items and checking them off physically.

Complex, but pretty good

This is the premier financial and accounting software for small/medium businesses. Most accountants understand how to use this and can accept the files when tax time rolls around. In some cases they can help you get everything initially set up the way they like it.

Pros

It's an industry standard... I mean really that's the best thing that can be said. It is also very robust, it can do a lot, however...

Cons

It's overly complex... for people who do not know exactly what they're doing, there can be a steep learning curve. Also if things become broken their error messages are very obscure. This means that you will usually want to maintain a support contract unless you have an IT staff that can investigate these issues.

Great for Managing Finances

Pros

Easy for multiple people to use with it being used in the cloud. Support is very helpful when you need something.

Cons

Although support is helpful it would be nice not to have to call at all. Perhaps that is the trade you make for such a powerful program though.

Imperative for small Business

overall its great

Pros

Quickbooks has been in the game for a long time. The API integration is great. Also the reporting and export functionality is very helpful when doing taxes.

Cons

The cloud version is obsoleting the desktop stuff when it comes to integration with Wordpress and some other APIs. Also I don't like the idea of storing financials on their servers... i'd rather have it saved locally
