### Most mentioned pros

- Its robust feature set that combines detailed accounting, inventory, and reporting in one reliable system, making financial management straightforward and efficient.
- The invoicing feature and account receivable feature helps me a lot in managing and I can track down the inventory for the stock levels and it connects smoothly with the bank which saves me a lot of time on accounting.
- It is a dependable solution for managing business finances, generating reports, and maintaining accounting records. While it takes some time to learn all features, it provides the tools needed for accurate financial management and business growth.

### Most mentioned cons

- The PR does a very bad job of communicating the Vacation and Sick Time, and there is no way for me to adjust this to make it show things clearer for the employee. - The software has a steep learning curve, and troubleshooting issues such as voided checks, imported data, or accounting corrections can be time-consuming.

Overall, my experience with Sage 50 Accounting has been positive. It has helped simplify transaction management, invoicing, and financial reporting while keeping accounting records organized. Sage 50 Accounting makes it easy to manage day to day accounting tasks in one place. I found invoicing, expense tracking, and bank reconciliation straightforward, and the reporting features provide useful insights into business performance. It offers good value for the features included, especially for small and growing businesses. Customer support has also been responsive whenever I needed assistance.

#### Reasons for switching to Sage 50 Accounting

We needed stronger accounting capabilities, better financial reporting, and improved inventory management. Sage 50 Accounting offered more advanced features for our growing business while providing reliable transaction management and detailed financial insights.

### Reliable backbone for our daily accounting

Over two years it has become the reliable backbone of our accounting process. It does the core tasks well and rarely surprises me in a bad way, which matters a lot when you are responsible for accurate books. Customer support has been helpful the few times I needed real answers, and the reporting consistently gives me the clarity I need for decisions. It is not the flashiest option out there, but it earns its place by being steady and trustworthy where it counts.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

What I value most is how dependable it is for the work I handle every day. The general ledger and bank reconciliation just work, so I trust the numbers when I close the books each month. The financial reporting is the part I lean on most, since I can pull a clean balance sheet or profit and loss statement without fighting the system. Setting up recurring entries has cut down a good amount of repetitive data entry for my team, and the audit trail has saved me more than once when I needed to trace something back to its source. For the price, the depth of accounting features feels fair.

#### Cons

The interface is starting to show its age next to some of the newer cloud tools, and I do wish it felt a bit more modern to move around in. Performance can slow down once the company file grows large, especially during busy stretches when a few of us are working in it at the same time. Collaboration is not its strong point either, so we tend to work around it instead of through it. None of this stops me from getting my job done, but these are areas I hope they keep refining over time.

#### Reasons for switching to Sage 50 Accounting

Realistic products a Senior Accountant would have switched from: QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online, Xero, FreshBooks, or an older manual or spreadsheet-based system. QuickBooks Desktop is the most believable switch since both are traditional desktop accounting tools, and accountants commonly move between them.

Overall, my experience has been positive. While I encountered challenges during data migration and while learning some of the more advanced features, Sage 50 has proven to be a reliable accounting system for managing day-to-day financial operations. It offers powerful accounting capabilities and detailed reporting, but new users should expect to invest time in learning the software. With proper training and experience, it becomes an effective tool for maintaining accurate financial records.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Sage 50 is a robust accounting system with strong accounting controls and detailed financial reporting. I especially appreciate its ability to manage accounts payable, general ledger, bank reconciliations, and financial statements in one place. Once the data is set up correctly, it provides accurate financial information and good audit trails for tracking transactions.

#### Cons

The biggest challenge is that some processes are not very intuitive, especially when correcting mistakes or working with historical transactions. The software has a steep learning curve, and troubleshooting issues such as voided checks, imported data, or accounting corrections can be time-consuming. I also wish the interface were more modern and that navigation to certain features was easier.

The remote access has glitches. Our CPA has trouble accessing Sage, as they are on a server and we are not.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

The reporting capabilities is imperative to reviewing operations and tracking expenses. Our bookkeeping is streamlined with a powerful accounting system.

#### Cons

The price continues to outgrow the size of our company. We are a small business; however, at one point, we were sold on Quantum, the most expensive platform geared to larger companies, and we cannot renew to a better-priced option (downgrade). We will likely be switching to another product.

#### Reasons for choosing Sage 50 Accounting

We are Sage (Peachtree - remember when it was that) die-hards (over 30 year customer), however, may be soon priced out.

Overall, Sage has delivered measurable benefits in efficiency, data accuracy, and operational control. #### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5

#### Pros

Our experience with SAGE has been largely positive. The platform provides a centralized solution for managing key business functions, including finance, inventory, procurement, and reporting. Having all critical data in one place has improved visibility across departments and streamlined daily operations or our company.

#### Cons

One of the biggest strengths of Sage is its ability to automate manual processes, reducing errors and saving time. The reporting and dashboard features offer valuable insights that support better decision-making. The system is also scalable, making it suitable for growing organizations. However, there are areas for improvement. Some modules are short of the deep analysis needed. Customizations and advanced reporting may also require additional technical expertise.

I hadn't used this software in a long while, but it was easy to get familiarized with it again, and I think that it's an easy software for new accounting software users to navigate. There are a lot of wish list features that would be nice to have.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

It's easy to make adjustments or reallocations after a transaction has been posted, and easy to make the adjustment when looking at a posted transaction.

#### Cons

There aren't many features to customize the reports. For example, you can't really look up transactions for more than 1 fiscal year at a time, except in a few places (e.g. aging reports can look at more than 1 year but not the general ledger). The forecast report doesn't give many useful details but there are no customizing features at all. It would be great to if the project financials had more customization options.

#### Reasons for switching to Sage 50 Accounting

I changed organizations (my previous organization used Sage 300 and then switched to Acumatica) and my current organization uses Sage 50

Overall, my experience with Sage 50 Accounting has been positive. The software offers a comprehensive set of accounting tools, including invoicing, expense tracking, inventory management, and detailed financial reporting. It has helped streamline our accounting processes and provides reliable financial data for decision-making. While there is a learning curve and the interface can feel somewhat dated compared to newer cloud-based solutions, the system is robust, dependable, and well-suited for businesses that require advanced accounting functionality.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5

#### Pros

What I liked most about Sage 50 Accounting was its comprehensive feature set and powerful reporting capabilities. It allowed us to manage invoicing, expenses, inventory, and financial reporting from a single platform. The software was reliable, and the detailed reports provided valuable insights into our business performance.

#### Cons

The main drawback of Sage 50 Accounting was its steep learning curve and somewhat dated user interface. While the software is feature-rich, navigating certain functions can be cumbersome for new users. We also experienced occasional performance slowdowns with larger company files, and the cost of ongoing upgrades and support can be significant for smaller businesses

#### Reasons for choosing Sage 50 Accounting

We chose Sage 50 Accounting because it offered a more comprehensive set of accounting and inventory management features than many alternative products. Its strong financial reporting, job costing capabilities, and established reputation made it a better fit for our business needs. We also appreciated the level of control provided by a desktop-based solution and its ability to handle more complex accounting requirements as our business grows

### Does the job well, just needs patience to get started

Switched to Sage 50 after getting frustrated with spreadsheets and haven't really looked back. It's not the prettiest software and the UI feels a bit dated, but it's reliable — and that matters more when you're dealing with your actual finances. Once I got past the initial setup headaches, day-to-day use became pretty smooth. Good tool, just takes some patience upfront.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The financial reporting is genuinely impressive. As someone managing my own books, having ready-made reports that I can just pull up without building them from scratch saves a lot of time. Invoicing is clean and simple once you're past the setup phase — clients receive professional-looking invoices and I can track what's paid and what's pending without digging around. Data feels secure and well-organized too.

#### Cons

The learning curve in the beginning is steeper than I expected. Took me a couple of weeks and a few YouTube tutorials before I felt comfortable. Also feels a bit overbuilt for solo freelance use — like some features exist for teams or larger businesses and just add noise for someone working alone. Pricing could be friendlier for individual users.

#### Reasons for switching to Sage 50 Accounting

Was managing everything in Excel spreadsheets and it got messy pretty fast — tracking invoices, expenses and reconciling at month end was taking way too long. Wanted something purpose-built for accounting that wouldn't require me to maintain formulas manually. Sage 50 made more sense for keeping things clean and audit-ready.

My overall experience has been positive because the software is incredibly stable and accurate for financial tracking. The only downside is the outdated interface and sluggish remote syncing. It gets the job done well, but it definitely needs a modern UI refresh.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Overall, Sage 50 is a powerful, dependable tool for managing business finances. It gets the job done perfectly when it comes to invoicing, data management, and tax prep. However, it lacks the modern, smooth user experience of newer web-based apps. It is ideal for traditional accountants, but a bit frustrating for beginners.

#### Cons

The cloud integration isn't seamless. It still behaves too much like heavy desktop software, and it can become sluggish or run into sync issues when working remotely.

Overall, my experience has been very positive. It was a little frustrating to learn at first because of the older interface, but once I got the hang of it, it made managing our day-to-day finances much easier. Honestly, the best part about Sage 50 is just how rock-solid and reliable it is. It might not have the flashiest modern interface, but it never crashes or glitches when I'm in the middle of payroll or heavy data entry. The reporting is super detailed, and my CPA absolutely loves the audit trail feature because it tracks every single change.

For Project Based companies it allows them to see whether they are meeting their budget during the project vs. afterwards. It eliminates much of the manual cross checking required at Month End because all reports pull from the same source as everything else.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

It allows me to directly link costs associated with a particular expense to a specific Project Phase rather than having to make an educated guess about what was charged to the account. The Reports function is also very good as well. A Report takes only a few Clicks and I am able to view a full Balance Sheet or Aging Report in a matter of seconds. Inventory Tracking is also good as long as you have actual Stock on Hand and are not simply tracking Invoices.

#### Cons

As I am writing this article, I find myself getting hungrier; however, I believe that the user interface has been stagnant for years. In some cases it takes 2-3 clicks to locate a setting. There isn’t a real mobile application. Petty complaint – Every time Sage pushes out an update, I feel like they move things around in the menu’s for no reason and then I must learn where my frequently accessed reports were moved. Support is spotty at times. Sometimes I will be put on hold for longer than it would take for the bus to arrive.

I've been a sage user for 18 years and although very accustom to the product. I recently started to use the bank feeds. Its taken 6 months to get to grips with the combination of bank feed, with recurring entries and rules. I had several conversation with the help desk.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 2/5

#### Pros

Struggling to find something that I like most. I find that uploading data is straight forward and quick.

#### Cons

The charity module is like an "add on" no real thought just a selling point. Day to day useage, not very satisfactory, reports not very good, fund numbering.

In general it's ok, but quite old style and not very intuitive. I'm used to it but often struggle with it when it comes to generating remittances, reports etc.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

Ability to easily process multiple invoices, the option to use keyboard keys to copy lines above, recording payments

#### Cons

remittances is the least favourite part. It always freezes, I find editing the template very confusing and not user friendly

### An engineer's take: Keeps plant CapEx in check, but zero mobile access

Overall I’d say it stops us from bleeding money on unaccounted project costs. In the past, the civil department and the corporate finance team were always bumping heads over mismatched Excel spreadsheets. Now, all our site expenses are centralized. If a contractor accidentally double bills us for a cement delivery or crane rental, we catch it immediately against the approved job budget. It essentially bridges the gap between what is happening physically on the construction site and what the finance team sees.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

I manage the execution side of a massive industrial plant expansion, which means I deal with an endless mountain of contractor invoices, equipment rentals, and bulk material costs. I'm an engineer, not an accountant, so I need software that just works without crashing. The best part about Sage 50 is its job costing module. When we are in the middle of pouring foundation concrete or laying structural steel, I can tie every single expense directly back to that specific project phase. It handles massive amounts of vendor data without breaking a sweat.

#### Cons

Honestly, the interface looks like it hasn't been updated since 2005. It is very clunky and requires way too many clicks just to run a basic expense report. My biggest gripe is the lack of genuine mobility. When I am out on the plant floor inspecting a site and a contractor asks about a delayed payment, I can't just easily pull it up on my iPad. The cloud features feel a bit bolted-on rather than native, so you really have to be sitting at a desktop monitor in the site office to actually get anything done efficiently.

I get more angry at it every year but I am trapped with the product, and now simple invoicing barely works because of a windows update and I spent hours online with customer support and it still doesn't work right

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

very little, it does a decent job of tracking inventory and generating reports but it really needs a basic version for small businesses

#### Cons

overly complicated for what I do, and way too expensive, it's a product I have been stuck with for over 15 years and has not gotten better at all for me despite tripling in price

#### Reasons for choosing Sage 50 Accounting

I got it because my father used it first
