Sage 100 (Formerly MAS 90 and MAS 200) ERP Software


 

Sage 100 ERP (formerly branded as Sage ERP MAS 90 and 200) is an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software system for small and midsize businesses. The solution is typically recommended to companies with annual revenue between one million and $100 million.

Sage 100 ERP products can be used by a wide range of manufacturing, distribution and services companies, and more granular verticals such as industrial supplies and services, building materials and electronics.

The solution is designed to be compatible with Windows operating systems. Sage 100 Standard ERP was originally built on a Windows platform and is typically deployed on a small Windows network. Sage 100 Advanced and Premium ERP were built to be database-driven, and the premium edition uses Microsoft SQL Server.

The complete solution includes modules for core accounting, distribution, manufacturing, business intelligence, customer relationship management, human resources (HR), time and project management, e-business and new cloud, web and mobile apps designed for remote and field use.

We went with Sage because we needed an accounting software that would also keep inventory stock. The fact that Sage has build able modules and customization available is pretty much the biggest asset available. I use Accounts Receivable, Payable, Sales Order, Inventory Management, Purchase order, General Ledger and Paperless office. I like that it allows me to more permanently close out accounting days and keeps track of all reports for later use.

Cons

It is a time consuming software to learn, definitely keep a professional on standby when installing and learning the system. Although I like being able to close out days and orders, it does make it a little harder to fix any mistakes. There are occasional bugs with the system but nothing that hasn't been able to be fixed with a phone call to our Sage installer.

Cons

Not built for service companies. The functions work but they don't fit the necessary needs of service companies. A scaled down version might be easier.

Standard ERP setup, relatively easy to use interface, setup is easy. Manual work arounds are easy to establish.

Cons

Reporting is antiquated, interfaces are difficult to maintain or non-existant, a "not very integrated" type system. Needs ability to interface with bank transactions and better financial reporting/consolidation tools.

Despite the whole full and complex look and feel, Sage 100 is still quite easy to understand in about 3 tries(if self teaching) but under an experienced hand , I’d probably give a day a day and half max.

Pros

The best thing about this software is it’s streamlined nature. An ERP that can help completely monitor from manufacturing to storage to logistics to HR and even customer relationship and satisfaction. This is one top of the line software.

Cons

It is still a bit jumbled up. Once loaded, it still looks like a whole lot on the eye. Icons and folders can still be properly arranged and sorted properly. Still a lot of addons that are not really needed.

Sage100 is a great product for smaller companies with one location. The problem we ran into with it was when we started operating out of multiple locations.

Pros

+ Relatively affordable
+ Great at tracking inventory
+ Can export all data directly into excel
+ Allows for a lot of functionality

- Not Cloud Based
- Have to keep up a server and slow on a local system
- System has to be continually updated to keep up with the latest version

When we signed up for SAGE we were sold the moon - so a big pro is their sales team is great at closing deals.

Cons

The cons unfortunately outweigh the pros. Anything that you would want to do with SAGE requires a great degree of customization through paid consultants and programming teams. The cost per user can get insane and the system is very clunky with reporting and databases being difficult to configure.

Hardly an ERP system. My previous job I shopped ERP software for about a year before I decided. I started my new job and this company has Sage ERP systems. It is miserable. Do not recommend.

Sage 100's interface is pretty simple to use if you are computer savvy. Even if your not its not hard to learn how to use it within an hour. The language used helps the user navigate quite simply and allows for easy navigation. They sell quite a bit of modules, so if you are looking for a specific function you can probably find a module that will fit your needs to some extent.

Cons

While Sage 100's interface is quite simple it's still lacking. For one the search interface is very limited. If for example I wanted to search for a product by its specific dimensions it would be tricky if the dimensions were located in the items extended description. While minor it can become a headache.

This software is reliable and will stand the test of time for your accounting needs. The reports can be hard to read sometimes because of the way it lines up, but you will have the reports you need and easy to find. With Sage 100 you can run accounting for multiple companies, we had 3 at one point. There is some inventory aspects to Sage 100 which we dabbled into briefly but for the restaurant business didn't end up working so great.
Overall Sage 100 is a good program that is user friendly.

Pros

Program is easy to use. I literally learned the basics in 2 short days. You can easily tell if a subcontractor or supplier has been paid and retention is very easy to track as well as pay out.

Cons

This is not job costing software therefore it will not track contract amounts for you. While you can run detailed reports you will have to run another type of software to get the project management side of things.

Master programmers and software support is available across the US. If you don't like your support group, you can easily hire another. No need to convert software solutions.

Pros

This software is easily customizable at install AND it is reliable. The software updates are rarely a problem; no need to wait for other users to test and work out the bugs found in some software updates.

Cons

Module pricing is a little more costly than other software, but then again how much is data integrity worth?
I like to sleep at night, so it's a good investment.

I have used Sage for over 10 years now. I prefer the detail capabilities it offers and love how I can customize it to work for my reports.

Pros

Once you understand how Sage works, it is easy to navigate every module. Financial reports can be set up to pull in whatever order or format you need them in. Budget numbers can be added in for easy variance reporting.

Cons

Initial training on how to use the software can be a bit overwhelming. I recommend offsite training at a Sage retailer.

Back in 2005 it was the only mid level accounting system out there. Today there are just too many other options without being held hostage to price gouging.

Pros

The way it can handle inventory and pick,pack ship. Used to include a great Payroll program but now that is an add on.

Cons

Huge price increases year after year for just the license. Then you have to hire a software programmer to even do the smallest of task. Or even more money to fix a simple data entry error.

It unifies our office to using one application for all our major business operation needs.

This software does everything. its highly customizable and now that it can run on SQL there are countless ways to pull data and reports on nearly any object or module.

Cons

Customizations can come back to bite you when it comes to support. The design feels like an old application that has had things "bolted on" for years to keep it relevant. It needs a complete rewrite using modern programming, languages, capabilities and techniques. Even though its customizable, its very rigid.

Out of the box Sage 100 without customization is powerful for those who are needing little beyond what the application offers. There is also endless possibilities for custom reporting.

Cons

Our company is very specialized and almost everything we needed was eventually customized. The problem is if those modules aren't available they have to be built and can be extremely expensive! Crystal Reoprts are also not intuitive

The SQL version is great because you have access to all the data which you can make custom reports and applications from it.

Cons

Very expensive and price keeps going up. when you have time invested in the product it's hard to switch. They know that and that is why they keep raising the price.
