Currently I use it on my own mainly to animate my Adobe Photoshop, Indesign, or Illustrator designs. After Effects has made it very easy for me to create short videos, looping sequences or even create animations with stop motion style graphics. I think it is a program that allows you to have absolute control over your ideas and creativity, and above all, a program that is very easy to learn and understand. I really like the fact that you can modify the files within the program and link them directly after opening them in photoshop. I also like that you can import default effects or designs. #### Cons I don't like that at the time of exporting, the time it takes to render in video, however short or long it may be, you have to wait a long time. No other softwares have the number of available features that After Effects does. The capability to be as precise as I can when creating transitions and animations cannot be found in any other software. I also have the creative freedom to make as many changes and alterations to video clips and images with the number of special effects that are readily available to me. Furthermore, each of those special effects can be personalized and further edited. Needless to say, the possibilities are endless with this editing software. #### Cons The few things that I don't like about this software is that it is definitely not beginner-friendly. It is very intimidating at first sight. There are a lot of panels and buttons and as someone who started off as a beginner, I was immediately scared off after my first impression. Another feature that I don't like about After Effects is the Rendering feature. The new versions of After Effects got rid of the H.264 video format (which allows users to export their videos in HD) and in order to be able to use it, Adobe Media Encoder (another Adobe software) needs to be installed. It was completely unnecessary to get rid of this one very important feature, and I think it needs to come back. Having to download a whole extra application for this feature alone is absurd as it takes up too much space on my computer. #### Reasons for switching to Adobe After Effects Final Cut Pro didn't have all the advanced features that After Effects has. You'll literally struggle a little bit at your first year of using the product but after that you'll find your self in it. Also it needs a good computer to run without crashes. No incentive was offered I used Adobe After Effects (specifically CS5) while in college, because a lot of our classes revolved around the adobe creative suite. Unfortunately, it was pushed on us for animation projects, with minimal training, which has somewhat ruined my view on it. And I don't mean touching up animation projects, I mean animation projects from scratch, start to finish. I ended up cheating and using Harmony to an extent, because After Effects CS5 was not the best for traditional animation methods, and I didn't know enough about its effects and animation features to work based solely on that.That being said, After Effects is often still used for game animation, and certainly has some merit if used for it's intended purpose. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 4/5 - Value for money: 3/5 - Functionality: 4/5 #### Pros Not much really, but I never did the things that After Effects was actually good at.
