Autocad for "part-time" civil engineer

Once I tried to draw my own home's plan but could not manage software requires a lot of time and patience.

PROS

It manages extremely large projects with exact measures and details. It gives availability to work in 3D Space. Cloud function helps to get advantage to work as a team.

CONS

It needs strong computer resources. Without qualified tutorials, it is like impossible to work on this program. Besides the price is so expensive.

Reason for choosing AutoCAD

Why I was considering these three versions I checked mainly the price, ease of use and functionality so that AutoCAD became my first choice.

Reasons for switching to AutoCAD

Autocad has 3D navigation and 3D scanning which are features you will not find in SketchUp, besides AutoCAD pricing is better than SketchUp.

AutoCAD: A surprising tool for 3D Game Creation.

I use this software to create and design realistic and logical buildings for 3D games and even for Comic Creation. I make use of this because I want the best experiences in my work and I find it easier to work out the logic of something by having it exist in some form. AutoCAD is paid for but it is free for students which helped me out for a while. Overall you can make really professional designs using AutoCAD because it is an a amazing software.

PROS

AutoCAD is one of the best technical design software out there. It's very popular among architects but I actually make use of it as a Game Designer. AutoCAD has many tools making building layout designs very simple. The newer Trace tool allows me to add notes on possible iterations while not changing my design. The feature I love most of AutoCAD is their mobile app and web app. With AutoCAD Drive I am able to upload my work and can then work on it with my phone in any spare time I find or from remote locations.

CONS

AutoCAD is paid and can be expensive. They offer training courses which as also expensive. The software can also be confusing and difficult to learn how to work. It's very complex software with complex UI's.

Reasons for switching to AutoCAD

I found AutoCAD had more of the features I actually made use of.

Drawing by architect

In general, AutoCAD is very good for drawing proposals for plans. In our case, it has worked very well for an urban proposal where every moment it has to be updated and thanks to the layers, it facilitates the different stages that we want to show.

PROS

autocad is like drawing in real life but on a computer and I think that this makes it easier to learn to use the program, the commands make the whole process easier and any idea you have in mind can be drawn with the details that are required and made it real

CONS

For me, the main drawing in autocad is 2D, using it in 3D is somewhat more complicated. Over time, new programs have come out that offer the whole experience of drawing in 2D and 3D at the same time, and that is what I like least about AutoCAD, that in order to visualize what I am doing I have to switch to other programs. In general, I think this makes less and less use of the program

A critical program that often doesn't live up to its potential.

This program is on the out in terms of office use, but it has proven pretty reliable. The drafting tools are adequate and fulfill most of the challenges when assembling a drawing. There are some major gaps and omissions with the tools when compared to other programs like Rhino. Performance issues are the biggest road block that Autodesk hasn't seemed to iron out over the lifetime of the product. It still chugs and freezes at inopportune times, particularly between model and paper space. Revit is this future, but this will get you by.

PROS

Robust linking and organization tools. File formats that are easily transferred to other programs. Relatively simple UI.

CONS

Performance issues abound. This program uses more RAM and CPU power than it has the right to. A lot of freezing and hang-ups even on beefy machines. Some very frustrating UI decisions and limitations with commands.
