Krita - Should Cost a Fortune, is Free
Krita is a powerful (and free) illustration suite maintained by a large group of passionate artists and developers. Myself and my team in our illustration department have been making thorough use of it for years, and couldn't be more satisfied with what it offers. Since there are no licensing requirements (even for large teams), the suite as a whole has saved us a small fortune, allowing us to divert our attention to our work, rather than worrying about expenses and whether or not our returns cover annual licenses.
PROSKrita is the best software in terms of illustration that I've used in my 12+ years in the industry; it is far more intuitive than competitors like Adobe Photoshop because Krita has been developed primarily as illustrating software. It marries the ease-of-use in Adobe Illustrator with some of the more complex brushes and rastering in Adobe Photoshop; although I use both latter products daily, I use neither for illustration - that is Krita's domain. Despite being the absolute best illustrating software on the market, Krita is 100% free to use, own and edit - it is fully open source, effectively meaning you, and everyone else, own it indefinitely. There are no "free trials", potential subscriptions or fees related to deploying it, which has converted me for life.
CONSIn the years that I've used Krita, I've not come across a single issue that has hindered my ability to use the software. The few times I've run into seemingly unsolvable issues, a quick trip to the Krita forums helped me clear it up in a jiffy.

One of the Best Photoshop Alternatives
I don't like software as a service where you don't own the software you use. Krita is open source and accepts donations for the continued development of the software. There's also a paid version on Steam, Microsoft Store, and the App Store for Mac users. It offers a stable option for basic photo editing that doesn't require forking over money every month.
PROSKrita integrates wonderfully across Windows, macOS, and Linux so you can take your work with you wherever you go. It's great for small jobs like photo touch-ups, but it can also handle graphic creation for web articles and more. Plugin support is not as great, but the Krita forums will answer any questions you have about making the transition.
CONSSoftware updates are timely, but may contain bugs. Stable versions are just that, but may not have the latest features. Also, the lack of plugin support may be a killer for someone that uses highly customized Photoshop plugins.
Reason for choosing Krita
Many digital artists and animation colleagues recommended Paint Tool SAI to me. Unfortunately, that tool is Windows-only.
Reasons for switching to Krita
The software as a service model doesn't work for my business, where only light photo-editing is needed.

A Detailed Krita Walk-Through
Krita's interface is regarded as being user-friendly generally, but beginners may still find it intimidating. The majority of the features and functionalities took me a long time to become familiar with.
PROSKrita is a robust and adaptable piece of digital art software that provides designers and artists with a wealth of tools and functionality. With the help of Krita's brush engines, users can design a huge selection of unique brushes and brush effects. With features like layer folders, layer groups, and layer masks that enable users to arrange and edit their layers in a variety of ways, layer management systems are sturdy and adaptable. It's also possible to generate 2D animations as well as customizing the interface by creating workspaces of your own liking. Krita is typically user-friendly since it has a simple, clear interface that is simple to use. To assist users in getting started and learning new skills, the software comes with a number of useful tutorials, documentation, and community resources. The compatibility of Krita with other apps is also fairly good. The software can import and export artwork in a broad variety of file formats, including well-known ones like PSD, PNG, and JPEG.
CONSKrita is a strong and powerful digital art program, however it might not be the right choice for all users or projects. Other software solutions might be more suitable for users that work exclusively with vector formats, want considerable third-party integration. It has a relatively limited range of third-party plugins and extensions supported.

Approachable Elegant Software with the Usual Open Source Roadblocks
Overall, Krita is a very capable product, great for learning, and acceptable for its purposes. In the long run, a user running any kind of enterprise or business will likely want to find a paid product for the Quality Assurance and Support that comes with it.
PROSIt was approachable and pretty full-featured in its design. The docking system is convenient and after a few basics I was able to get a good ways before really having to resort to online materials for extra help. The dock, tile, and brush system are all very solid and flexible. Although the layout is messy in some ways it keeps the main tasks fairly up-front and simple. They also seem to be constantly updating the program. While it doesn't have touch controls, its support for my drawing tablet seemed to be pretty robust (full disclosure, there are so many tablets on the market that it's hard to say whether my experience is representative).
CONSThe cons, sadly, made my time with Krita limited and I soon had to switch to a comparable paid product. These are issues that, in my opinion plague most free open source projects, so your mileage may vary depending on how important "free" is. First, the documentation is lacking. Sometimes it's just what you expect, but because they are constantly adding features for some features the documentation is missing entirely. Secondly, their constant updates and the nature of a collaborative open source product means a lot of features break for extended periods of time while they get around to figuring them out and fixing them. The result of this is that I felt like I was spending as much time talking to (or reading from) other users on Reddits and forums to figure out what a large number of functions were supposed to do, how they were supposed to work, and what any workarounds were for them being broken. It's due to many similar reasons why I have sworn off open source products in my business, but for students or those without the same concern of clients and running an enterprise, something that works 80% of the time and requires much more involvement might be preferable as it costs 100% less (free!).

Open Source drawing software made by artists
I use Krita both for private projects and professionally. I was looking for a digital painting software that would be able to go head-to-head with Photoshop in that regard and I found it in Krita. It is a great piece of software that allows me to create art uninterrupted and with ease. The default brush selection is amazing and the functions are familiar if you used Photoshop so there is almost no learning curve. For work, I use Krita to generate small graphics for the website that need that "hand made" feel rather than the sleek vector design required for some other projects. All in all, I would highly recommend Krita to anyone looking to draw or paint. The best thing is that it has no subscription fee, it is absolutely and completely free.
PROSIt has digital painting and drawing as its main focus. Other similar software focuses on photo manipulation primary and painting secondary, while Krita has it the other way around. The user interface and tools at your disposal are all made for content creation. It is a very refreshing take on a digital painting software. Krita also comes with a great set of brushes, once again, optimized for digital drawing and painting.
CONSI loved Krita but from time to time I had issues with brush lag with both my Wacom and my Huion tablets. I would draw a line and it would appear seconds later, or it would decide to dance around the canvas creating a scribble rather than a straight line.
Reason for choosing Krita
It was more focused into digital drawing, which is what I needed at the time.
Reasons for switching to Krita
We could not afford the expensive subscription that Adobe pushes.

Cheap (or FREE!!) Photoshop for All!!
My overall experience with Krita has been very positive. I downloaded it initially for the low/free pricetag, but it has proven itself to be a formidable competitor to the insanely expensive Photoshop.
PROSI'm no professional artist or photo editor, but I have used Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator in the past. The feature set built into Krita is certainly comparable to Photoshop's but affordable for everyone! Krita is 100% free for everyone from their website, or a mere $10 on Steam which provides automatic updates and helps support the developers. I tried out the free download but ended up purchasing it on Steam because I wanted to support the hard work put in by the developers.
CONSVector graphics are not on the same level as say, Adobe Illustrator, but the basics are there, and that is better than nothing. I recommend Inkscape as a free vector graphics program.
Reason for choosing Krita
Ease of use, expansive feature set, excellent pen support (I use a Microsoft Surface Book 3 and Surface Slim Pen 2).
Reasons for switching to Krita
Adobe Photoshop is completely unaffordable for a hobby artist or photo editor.

Best FREE Animation software
It has been an overall excellent experience. I love using this software, its so easy and intuitive
PROSThis software has everything you need and it is FREE.
CONSI think it would help if they added in more brush options
Reasons for switching to Krita
Krita has a much wider variety of options for drawing and it is so easy to use or to import assets such as brushes, as well as make your own brushes. For all that, you still get the software for FREE. It has everything that the paid software has.

Krita is a Free Photo Editing Powerhouse!
Krita is a great FREE alternative to other softwares such as Affinity Photo, Photoshop, and Gimp.
PROSI love that Krita is free and useful for Texturing, Editing Drawing, Animation, Import/Export, and more!
CONSIt looks a little outdated and can be frustrating to figure out where the tools are at until you get used to it.
Reasons for switching to Krita
Krita more closely resembles Photoshop so it is easier to dive right in and use.

Krita: A free yet still incredible drawing tool for Digital Artists and Developers.
Overall Krita is my most used drawing software for a reason. I find it to be the most user-friendly, it's inexpensive and offers so many tools. I make use of other drawing software for other specific needs but for general digital drawing and asset creation I always come back to Krita.
PROSKrita is completely free which is a big bonus and there are many different brushes to download. The software is the easiest I've ever used for digital drawing. It offers so many different tools that all work incredibly. I make use of Krita for creating game assets as well as comics and concept art and it works amazingly.
CONSThe only feature of Krita I don't enjoy is the text. Krita's text system is not great at all. It's very difficult to use and even harder to edit at a later stage. For me personally when it comes to adding text, like for lettering a comic, I export to Clip Studio Paint.
Reasons for switching to Krita
The other software was great and I still make use of them, But krita was the best and most user-friendly for me.

Better than Photoshop
So far my overall experience with Krita is really amazing. I recommend this to anyone new to the digital art world or even animation and you won't need to speed any fees because it's free to use.
PROSIt works very well and it's an open-source program which means it's completely free. The layout is really nice and easy to work with. It's also comparable with any format and it's a light program which means it doesn't take much to run it and not much space to install it either. It's an easy recommend especially for anyone new to digital art.
CONSSome updates make it unusable at times due to the fact that it's open-source but this is usually fixed in a short amount of time. Other than that no other issues so far, its only sad that a lot of people don't know about it.
Reasons for switching to Krita
Mostly due to the fact it was a monthly subscription and plus I wanted to try other alternatives that were just as good or even better than photoshop.

Good tablet software.
I'm happy with the program and am grateful that it is free.
PROSKrita allowed me to create CMYK and vector files for a coloring book project and I use it every time I need to submit files to a printing company.
CONSNot very intuituve and options are not available by clicking, some functions require hotkey shortcuts.
Reason for choosing Krita
Much better features for a professional.
Reasons for switching to Krita
Gimp doesn't do CMYK and Gimp isn't as good for tablet integration.

Made by artists to artists, the best drawing software, better than the paid ones
After trying a lot of drawing software, in the last few months I started using Krita and now I have it as my "friend for whatever comes" the features are incredible and it is much better than the software I used previously and better, it's free! For me, Krita did better or equal to the famous and expensive drawing software.
PROSThe layout is adaptable to the artist's use, it can be changed according to what is most convenient. The standard brushes are amazing! The textured ones are the most amazing, but the normal ones are not left behind either. In addition, you can import brushes from Ps and create your own, you can also buy Krita brushes or free download them in internet! It has great filter options to refine final art, tools that make the colorization process fast and stabilizer for lineart.
CONSFor me Krita is perfect, the only problem I have to report is not a problem with the software itself but with my computer, sometimes my computer does not work very well, the brush stroke get slow or the keyboard freezes. Krita needs a strong processor and considerable memory to function in full condition. But it's nothing serious, just save, close and open Krita again!
Reasons for switching to Krita
Autodesk Sketchbook is a good software, but its functionality is limited (without clipping mask, without creating brushes, without filters ...) If you want to work professionally, quickly and with tools that speed up the process, it is better to choose other software. But AS remains great for sketches and linearts.

Best free desktop vector graphics tool
Krita has been my choice of a vector graphics editing tool, because it's free and still powerful.
PROSThere are many tutorials for Krita out there, which makes it much easier to use the tool. It's packed with features like brushes and shapes. The application also runs smoothly. And it's entirely free!
CONSYou have to look at the small stuff to find flaws in Krita, but I think the tool is due for an interface overhaul, since it seems dated and isn't self-descriptive.
