About Flex83

Flex83 is an application enablement platform (AEP) that helps businesses create, validate and deploy custom web applications. The platform enables IT teams to utilize sensors and software to handle data transfer across systems and devices. It allows administrators to manage device attributes, configure event-based triggers, and assign icons to distinguish different devices. Features of Flex83 include data import/export, application lifecycle management, notifications, data storage management, code refactoring and more. Additionally, it lets managers create custom dashboards, organize digital assets, conduct data analysis and configure workflows. Flex83 comes with an application programming interface (API), which facilitates integration with several third-party...

PowerPoint to Prototype in Two Weeks

Overall our experience with the IoT83 platform and their entire team has been very positive.

PROS

I got in touch with IoT83 to see if they would be able to help us build a massively scaleable version of an existing in-house product. After an initial meeting to outline our requirements, they came back 2 weeks later with a fully functional application based on their IoT83 platform, proving both the capability of their platform to be easily customized, plus the ability of their team to work quickly to deliver a quality solution in very short time.

CONS

While we did encounter some challenges with handling some very high ingress rates, much higher than originally planned, the team did work hard to find a solution and to get it implemented in production, to satisfaction of the customer.

This is what I think of when I think of the Internet of Things

We are in the prototype stages of building a device for the home improvement sector. It needs to read from a number of different sources, make changes based on those data, and then use that data real-time to maintain a certain environment. Having Flex83 as a virtual tool to map those sensors, devices, interactions, and output has been invaluable for us. We are now able to map out several different scenarios and then when we have a configuration that works, it's finished. No need go through several prototype iterations.

PROS

I can map my dashboard to a particular machine, controller, or sensor in real-time and without a line of code. I can set up interactions between sensors and build response trees to customize the workflow between devices on the fly

CONS

While it is easily accessible to the tech savvy, we still need to work on more digestible chunks for people who are not as knowledgeable. It is incredibly powerful down to every detail, but the level of detail can be overwhelming for some

nVent Cloud Journey

What a great organization to work with. The Flex 83 primes are ex-developers and really know the IoT space and S/W development. Significant effort was extended to nvent to understand the nature of our products and how best to connect and provide a roadmap for success. There is no way if i engaged with any other IoT development organization that i would have received the same level of service and attention to detail to make our product successful I would be glad to be a reference to any future customer evaluating their platform.

PROS

The software is very easy to use and intuitive. 83Incs has been extremely helpful and committed to nVent success in moving the company forward with connecting our legacy installed controller base to the cloud platform. They have over achieved and over delivered often from the original sprint contents to ensure our product success. They are always improving their products and the customer get these upgrades as part of the normal maintenance fees. We gain much more value for our dollar than we would working with other cloud development organizations

CONS

From my perspective, I have only positive feedback. During my RFQ process I have seen and evaluated several vendors platform, two of the largest in fact. The incumbent platforms were cumbersome, old and could not scale to meet our needs. Some vendors developed their own proprietary software which is risky since not using open source, there is no guarantee that these platform have all the necessary security built in. I like that the software is continuously being developed and existing libraries are open sourced and get routinely upgraded which is comforting that the 83inc platform will be secured with the latest security updates.

Reason for choosing Flex83

Extremely competitive platform. Fixed yearly maintenance, no limit on the number of connected devices and users. As the business volume increases, the better value to nVnet where the other platforms, the cost to add connected devices and users increased. There is more opportunity to make bigger money on the 83IoT platform compared to the older incumbents. Also their models of using sprint development to pay down the yearly maintenance was key for us. Our organization needed the sprints to develop platform and on-board field devices and to have the yearly maintenance cost to be offset by the sprints was a key decision factor. The best value for the buck!
