A good free alternative to github

I've been using it now for 6 years and it's my main repo host for work. I can recall only two times where there was a downtime that affected me, but besides that, there's never been a problem with them.

PROS

I like how robust their website is on terms of pull requests and integrations with JIRA and other atlassian products. You can store private repo's and manage it. The pull Request feature is the strongest in my opinion, with reviews and linking to JIRA. So it automatically can close tickets once you merge/accept a pull request. If you link the commits with a JIRA issue it also updates with them. They recently simplified the UI and their own home made SourceTree Visual App has received some substantial upgrades over the years and it's one of the best tree-based git history apps out there. In all honesty, it's a simple git control hosting website you can use online or host by yourself. It's really good.

CONS

The UI used to change a lot but now they've settled. Sometimes, compared to github, processing big pull requests (loading the changes/previewing) can be a little slow. Sometimes the integrations with JIRA, can feel like a miss if you don't use it, because Github has a lot of those features that Github might miss.

Reason for choosing Bitbucket

More robust enterprise tools and competitive pricing. Also private local hosting.

An easy and fast way to keep track of your elements and their modifications.

Bitbucket is a very useful version control tool, easy to master and with many useful tools that will help you speed up your work, of course it has certain shortcomings that could be improved over time, but at the end of the day it is a tool very useful. From the most basic to the most complex options, you will find them extremely useful in your day to day work to get ahead.

PROS

Bitbucket has a very friendly interface that is easy to understand and understand, it allows you to maintain control and order of all your elements and keep track of each modification that was made and by whom said modification was made. It allows you to establish different types of permissions as necessary to have a better control of who can perform what actions within the repositories that are created in bitbucket. Once you get familiar with the tool, everything is easy to do and locate any option you are looking for to carry out your tasks.

CONS

Sometimes the way it provides you to search within each repository can be somewhat cumbersome, requiring you to write the exact name of the component you may be looking for in order to show you a result, making the searches more strenuous since you must know the exact name of the component or it will be very difficult to find it. In some cases, when versioning certain changes, Bitbucket interprets them as a total change within the component and shows as if the file was being completely modified even if you are only modifying some lines of code.

Reasons for switching to Bitbucket

The enterprise version of GitHub was way more expensive than Bitbucket enterprise version.

Great tool for source code repository

Very simple to set up and use, BitBucket has all the features you need to handle your source code in a professional way. Very useful also the integration with many other services and the possibility of using it as the ultimate CI/CD platform for your team.

PROS

BitBucket is very user-friendly and lets you quickly create a repository for source code management. Great integration with other useful Atlassian tools such as Jira.

CONS

Advanced paid plans can become very expensive if you have many users,

Good tool for Source Code Management

Bitbucket it's a quite good tool for source management, in last years a basic CI/CD with pipelines and integrations with K8S was introduced but it's not really complete.

PROS

I like integrations with external tools and the possibility to organize repositories into Projects.

CONS

A dedicated tool for graph of branches/commit is a missing critical feature.

Reason for choosing Bitbucket

At the moment of choice, some years ago, Bitbucket was better than other tools.

Bitbucket works

It is a great versioning tool, it comes with a UI for users who are not so good with Git. It's a nice feature but I don't think it's necessary. Access control is a great feature too, it helps in boosting the security of the source code.

PROS

The most liked feature of Bitbucket is its integration with JIRA projects. It's easy for project managers to track the process of deployment, and for change management to check in with security on Pull requests.

CONS

The pipeline aspect of Bibtbucket is the least of my team's favorites. We believe that CurcleCI does a better job. It would be preferred if it's free like its counterpart, GitHub.

Reasons for switching to Bitbucket

We were using other Atlassian tools, it made sense to use Bitbucket as it worked well with integration and product/project management aid.

The Best "web ui" Git SaaS

My overall experience with Bitbucket was awesome technically speak during all the time I used it. No complaints about software quality, performance, or uptime. I just moved because of the price.

PROS

Bitbucket has excellent git integration with many visual resources. The code review process is the best is my option compared with other Git as a service. The repositories organization fits very well for companies that avoid getting a mess quickly with many repositories. In a paid plan is available great audit logging.

CONS

The members limit on private repositories in a free plan. The permission management on repositories could be easier. It is tough to find and download the "bill/receipt of payment." which is a very common requirement for Brazillian companies.

Reason for choosing Bitbucket

The decision was to move to Bitbucket due private repositories for free, which is useful for testing the platform and the new way to version codes.

Reasons for switching to Bitbucket

I've used TFS for many years, but Git has excellent advantages over TFS, mainly in agile projects. The working way of TFS is not appropriate anymore due to its performance and to be hard to execute merges often.

PROS

CONS

Copying the actual commit ID's can be a little bit tricky. What's displayed on the screen is only a partial commit ID.

Great tool for code collaboration and versioning

PROS

For any software development team, code collaboration and its versioning are so important. And there should be a UI to manage these. So this product allows us both of them very easily. Because it is an Atlassian product, it has great integration with the other popular collaboration tools like Jira etc. Also, one of the great features is the ability to create different teams and projects and assign these to different uses.

CONS

The price. Actually, it seems cheap but the size of the group for the base price should be increased from 5 to 10.

Reasons for switching to Bitbucket

Private repo requirement and integration needs with Jira.

Easy Git Integration for Jira!

It's been very easy going. I have more experience with GitHub, GitLab etc and BitBucket has been great.

PROS

It's in the Atlassian family, and as a Product Development leader already deeply immersed in mostly Atlassian products this has been a game changer. It's very user friendly, and not overwhelming to get new folks onboarded. It's clean and easy.

CONS

I wish we could have more permissions for structure with our developers. We do have the premium version which is absolutely fairly priced, I just wish it had a bit more control. Haha, but this could just be my opinion.

Reason for choosing Bitbucket

Because it's already part of the Atlassian suite and our team develops far less in Linux so it was an easy choice!

PROS

Working with Bitbucket is fairly straight forward and learning curve is pretty shallow. The most important part for our team was the self-hosted option for Bitbucket.

CONS

I enjoyed the UI and overall experience with GitHub a bit more, but I would not consider this a deciding factor when choosing appropriate version control system.

BitBucket, a great VCS for your Software Projects

With Bitbucket you will have your SQ repositories managed in a great cloud service which offers you the chance to easily track everything that you and your team are working on. Integration with JIRA is key feature and a decision making factor.

PROS

Bitbucket is a an easy git remote repository. The best part I would say is its integration with JIRA cloud. When you use Bitbucket as your remote repo, you can simply put the JIRA issue (e.g. [SWL-746]) in your commit comments and then , when you push your code you will automatically see that the commit has been associated with the JIRA ticket and within JIRA you will be able to see that your ticket is automatically linked yo a Bitbucket branch. This way you can easily keep track of the new features that you are developing.

CONS

I would say that with almost all Atlassian products, the main issue is that their products can be very costly. Specially if your team has more than 10 members.

Reason for choosing Bitbucket

Mostly because even for small projects it is possible to have a free private repo, whereas with GitHub private repositories are always a paid service.

Reasons for switching to Bitbucket

Because it offers the possibility of having a free private repository for projects with less than 5 users.

A complete source code management tool to manage codebase of any scale

Overall really great experience barring the slow load times of the bitbucket UI. If you already use Jira then it is really good to have bitbucket as your source code management tool because of the ease of tagging a Jira ticket with a commit.

PROS

Bitbucket has very attractive pricing compared to the rivals. Other than cheaply priced and its integration with other atlassian products, it has very granular level access control defined which becomes very useful as the number of developers within the organisation grows and read/write, creating release branches, merging to master etc. becomes very critical to the workflows.

CONS

Bitbucket web experience could have much better in my opinion. The web pages load times are very high and a takes lot of time load pages. Also merging a PR in the bitbucket web is slow. Overall the web ui responsiveness can be improved a lot.

Reason for choosing Bitbucket

Since all the version control providers had the set of baseline features we were looking for, pricing of bitbucket and its seamless integration with other atlassian products like Jira and Confluence.

One of the best Source Control Solutions

It's been an amazing experience since we started using bitbucket. We have switched to other Atlassian tools to enable better integration. This has really helped improved our software engineering process.

PROS

The features we love most about Bitbucket is it's intgeration with other tools especially Atlassian tools. We use other Atlassian tools and the tight integration just makes it easy for us track projects. Another feature we like is the CI/CD feature. It eliminated the need for use to deploy a seperate system for our CI/CD needs. This has reduced the amount of work need to setup and maintain a seperate tool.

CONS

Bitbucket has very great features that makes our job easy. However, the user interface for pull requests can be greatly improved upon. We also have issues when editing a YAML file for CI/CD using the online editor.

Reason for choosing Bitbucket

Pricing was a major factor for us. Bitbucket was one of the few that offered private repository on their starter plan

Bitrix24 user experience

First of all I want to thank the organizers of Bitrix24 because they do an excellent job of providing a great service to entrepreneurs and different companies, I can describe my experience with it as great compared to the other alternatives available. Bitrix24 provides distinctive and beautiful backgrounds, but I think that providing the option to add images as backgrounds would be an excellent step, so that companies and entrepreneurs can put their company's images or logos in the background, and this enhances the sense of belonging. - As a final point, I think that this type of application needs a kind of suggestion program in artificial intelligence, for example, there are many companies that need employees with certain characteristics, such as an application programmer, so Bitrix24 suggests a group of users on LinkedIn who meet the appropriate conditions. This applies to real estate, Delivery services, canning services, .... All that the company and the entrepreneur needs, this point can be worked on in the long term by investing more in DEEP LEARNING

PROS

One of the most prominent points that you answered me about is that it is easy to use, its interface (reception) is simple and it offers multiple options for entering and registering email facebook or number phone ...other It also supports many operating systems, whether mac or windows, and is available for android and ios

CONS

- The application does not support the Arabic language, I am sure that adding the Arabic language will provide many users in the Arab world Having a clock showing the time on the front of the site. I think it is advisable to add a reminder of today’s date directly below it. This will be excellent, especially since the pressure of work leads many users to forget dates and make mistakes in appointments.

Amazing Version Control System

I have been using Bitbucket for a few months now and have been very satisfied with its performance. The version control system is incredibly easy to use and I appreciate the ability to customize my workspace. The pricing is a bit expensive, but overall I'm very happy with the product.

PROS

Bitbucket is an incredible version control system that makes it incredibly easy to collaborate on code and manage projects. It allows me to easily track changes, store files, and work with others on the same project. The user interface is intuitive and I appreciate the ability to customize my workspace to fit my needs.

CONS

The pricing for Bitbucket can be a bit expensive for smaller projects. Additionally, some of the features can be a bit confusing to use at first.

Reasons for switching to Bitbucket

Bitbucket stands out among its competitors with its intuitive user interface and its ability to easily track changes. Additionally, the ability to customize workspaces makes it incredibly easy to manage projects with teams of varying sizes. The pricing is also competitive compared to other version control systems which makes it an attractive option. All in all, Bitbucket is a great version control system that has many superior aspects over its alternatives.

Great tool to manage git repos and perfect tool for atlassian products integration

Overall, this is a best tools for managing git repos. I have been using this tool for more than 3 years now. Since we had other atlassian products as part of our project management such as confluence and jira, it fits well in overall framework. I would recommend this tool for better source code management, testing an some basic deployments.

PROS

1. Simple band quick integration with atlassian tools such bamboo, confluence and Jira. Also great integration with Cicd tools like Jenkins, TeamCity, etc. 2. Comparing files and code changes is pretty easy and to identify the differences. 3. Reporting functionality is very good. 4. Integration of jenkins is very tight that we can see the status of jobs in bitbucket portal. 5. Security and Access management is best.

CONS

1. Overall cost is little high 2. UI is sometimes tricky and slow. 3. You can't resolve merge conflict on bitbucket UI 4. Free trial has very limited features with less than 5 users support.

We love Bitbucket

We use bitbucket every day to backup our code, control version and publish the deploys on AWS & Google Cloud.

PROS

There is a lot of thing we love about Bitbucket. First one, the possibility to create any private repository you want. I know this a common feature today, but back in the time only Bitbucket allowed to create unlimited private repositories. Also the pipeline integration for deploys is a great thing and finally you can integrate it with a project managment software like Trello.

CONS

I would like to have a better UX, mostly because it feels a little bit old today. Almost everything works awesome, but they need to update the UX definitely.

Reason for choosing Bitbucket

The integration with Trello and JIRA.

Managing all the codebases within a team was never so easy

Overall Bitbucket is a must-have skill for all the developers it not only provides a good code backup but also multiple people can work on the same code parallelly.

PROS

Bitbucket is backed by Git a powerful tool to manage different versions of code. I love the shared way in which we can work with our colleagues using Bitbucket. Here one person can work on a particular component and other people on the same component and they both can push the code and merge all the changes seamlessly.

CONS

No 1 Version Control service

I am using Bitbucket for various different projects for more than 4 years now and I am extremely happy with it. As mentioned above it has an Issue tracker built-in on top of the version control and that really makes my life easier. It even has numerous ways of notifying me when some activity happens in our repository so I like it even more.

PROS

It is easy to use and very intuitive. It has an issue tracker and ton of other features It is free for small teams

CONS

Although Bitbucket works together with Jira (that has an amazing set of features on its own), perhaps I would like to see the issue tracker little more advanced. Not enough freedom when choosing the status of an issue, and not a good dashboard for tracking, for example, a milestone, or a project stage in a timeline. Yet I believe these are features that better suit some other type of product like Jira (again).

Reason for choosing Bitbucket

Features and value over the price paid

Reasons for switching to Bitbucket

Now this was way back in 2016, but still, there were excellent tools out there where one could have Project management and version control as part of one tool. Yet one of my clients was using some old version of mantis that was everything but user-friendly. Just going over a bug was a cumbersome process, not to mention the hassle of creating one or editing an existing bug. Bitbucket gave us the ability to have everything in one place and connect the actual commit with an actual bug so that we can keep track of everything. Client was extremely happy with making this change.

The best way to manage git repositories for businesses

It allowed us to organize the work of our development team, dividing each task into a different branch. Our development team was able to work with GIT in a more intuitive way. The breakthrough curve for new employees also drastically decreased allowing them to adapt to our workflow more efficiently.

PROS

One of the strengths of Bitbucket is its ease of use and its great integration with the Atlassian environment. In our company we integrated it with the JIRA incident handler and it worked very well. With Bitbucket you can configure the permissions of each team member, this is of great help so that only authorized people can modify the most important branches of the project. It is also very easy to adapt the software to the company workflow. By integrating it with JIRA, we can create a branch for each issue that must be handled by our development team. At the end of an incident you can create a "pull request" so that other team members can review the job. It is an essential software for us and we recommend it extensively.

CONS

Although it sounds hard to believe, our team has not found a single negative point for Bitbucket. So far it has proved to work according to our expectations. Perhaps we could say that for very large teams the costs rise very fast, so in some cases this can be considered as something negative.
