### About Design Flex

Design Flex is a kitchen and bathroom design application that assists professional designers with space planning, photorealistic rendering and presentation on a unified interface. The platform provides content libraries with decorative catalog items, textures and finishes from manufacturers, which lets users specify and visualize spaces with real products.

It offers a large selection of manufacturer catalogs for kitchens and bathrooms, including cloud-configurable cabinets, appliances, and plumbing. The software provides advanced design tools that allow designers to create stunning spaces through space planning, photorealistic renderings, 360-degree panoramas, and a lighting wizard.

Design Flex includes EZ Render, a rendering engine, which allows professionals to automatically implement lighting effects across cabinet finishes, tiling, flooring, paint and countertop materials. Real estate agents can utilize the Virtual Reality (VR) viewer to deliver immersive 3D experiences and 360° panoramic views of designs to clients.

With a design wizard, businesses can draw custom walls, ceilings, window or cabinets. The tools can be used to place moldings or doors, add countertops to cabi...

nets and elevations to walls. It can also configure screen layout. It facilitates integration with room measuring applications including ETemplate and magicplan, allowing users to design floor plans on mobile devices. One standout feature is the ability to easily change cabinet colors and styles without having to download multiple catalogs. This streamlines the design process and allows designers to quickly iterate on their ideas. The software also includes Closet, a tool for designing custom closets and home storage solutions. Additionally, the Application Integration Module enables electronic data transfer to accounting and other systems. Whether designers are creating kitchens from scratch or guiding bathroom renovations, Design Flex offers a comprehensive suite of features, vast catalog selection, and seamless integration capabilities to help design professionals make spaces amazing.

Pros:

The software is less glitchy and some background improvements have been made to the function. Less corrupted files and lost work.

Cons:

I wish the catalog part of the software was integrated with the software instead of separate. Chief Architect does this pretty well. It would be nice to see Design Flex incorporate a similar process.

Overall we are quite happy with the software, the cost is becoming difficult to justify. Thankfully I recently renegotiated our 2026 rate that is more palatable, however, I fear we will have no option but the defaulted rate next year.

Pros:

The ease of use and ability to utilize my manufacturers catalogs. The ability to save and share details with contractors, homeowners and designers in a professional and clear format.

Cons:

The price. As a small design group, a menu option would allow us to pay for features we need and use vs. an excessive blanket annual fee. I also wish the lighting was more straightforward.

Pros:

I really like that the system is a lot cleaner and the renderings look better. I always liked the cloud browser and I think it's really improved.

Cons:

WHen creating a rendering, the lighting is a pain. If I am just disgning a small vanity or bar, I have to put several walls up to get lighting on the cabinets. The colors are off too. Everything is kind of dark. I also do not like that you cannot load several renderings at once or download them at once because it will more likely cause the system to crash. When before I would load all my renderings then save.

it's powerful, does a nice job overall. lots of options and abilities to adjust things as required. It's a must have in the industry currently.

Some things could be much more simple to make designs go faster. the program sometimes makes really dumb decisions. Probably some AI rational would go a long way.

Great software I would recommend to designers

5

Overall, my experience with 2020 Design Flex has been positive. It remains a reliable and capable program that gets the job done and supports a professional design process. It’s a solid choice for designers who need both functionality and flexibility.

Functionality

Pros:

2020 Design Flex has been a strong tool in my workflow, especially for kitchen and millwork design. What I like most is its flexibility and the ability to quickly build detailed layouts that clients can easily visualize. It tracks the time per design so there is no confusion when tracking your time. The cloud-based access is a big advantage, making it easy to work across devices without being tied to one computer. The catalog integrations are also helpful, allowing for relatively accurate specifications. When it works well, it really speeds up the design process and helps present a polished, professional package which I feel is great value for your money.

Cons:

That said, there are definitely areas where it falls short. The software can be laggy at times, especially with more complex designs, which can interrupt workflow and slow things down. Some of the features feel less intuitive than they should be, requiring extra steps. Rendering can also be inconsistent, and while it’s good for general visuals, it doesn’t always deliver the level of realism clients expect. There are moments where I doo need to call into customer support however, the client support is amazing and the representatives are knowledgable.

I've been a user of this program for 30+ years. Design Flex is an improvement but now is also much more limiting than the previous program since cloud items and program items can no longer be modified.

Functionality

Pros:

Mostly, I like the rendering quality and the ability to plug in full cabinetry manufacture catalogs for quick design and pricing

Cons:

What I like the least is the dimensioning. I constantly need to adjust it and shorten dim. lines. Also making the drawings look professional takes a lot of timely finessing. It's not quite to nkba graphic standards.

Reasons for switching to Design Flex

Because Chief Architect isn't user friendly and doesn't automatically plug in cabinets nor use manufacture software blocks as 2020 does.

Pros:

Being able to get a price quoted immediately!! The renderings have also significantly improved. The interface is easy to work with.

Cons:

Countertops and moldings are difficult to work with especially in comparison to ProKitchen. We do wish there was a monthly fee for the program instead of a yearly.

Reasons for choosing Design Flex

We use all 3 programs for different reasons. We wanted Design Flex for primarily for pricing out the products quickly. But I also feel it's easier to use than the other products out there for Kitchen design.

I liked having the different package tiers, so I didn't have to pay for things I didn't need like the manufacturer catalogs. I may need them someday in the future, but it was nice to have the option to opt out. I also love the 3D renderings, as they have helped our clients really visualize what the outcome will be in their space.

Cons:
