Pros

AutoCAD is simply a beast of a program. When it comes to design and drawing packages, it is hands down worth every penny. It is very complex and adaptable to many businesses. There is very little it cannot do.

Cons

The only negative comment I could say about AutoCAD is the learning curve is very steep. You need to really commit to learning this software. Once you have learned it, there is no competition.

Ease-of-use

Value for Money

Pros

Great software for meeting all of our engineering needs. The ability to process both 2D and 3D drawings on lower end systems seems to still work well for such a complex system. Very versatile and has almost every feature possible that relates to almost any industry with many add-on software packages available.

Cons

Very expensive especially since changing to a subscription based service and almost too many features packed into one package. I think sometimes simplicity and software which focuses in special areas work best. Customer support is hit or miss and we had a lot of issues with the network license feature when outside the local network. However we did get it working after connecting with the support team.

Spectacular is the definition of my experience with this software, I recommend it to all those engineers who do the work or the layout at hand, the truth is that this will greatly simplify the work and the accuracy that this software offers is impressive.

Pros

It is a software that I love and I have used it for many years, I love that it is much more precise than working by hand, in addition to simplifying the work, it allows you to transfer information and therefore makes it much more efficient. Many other platform which allows you to work with resources that are in other files, the truth is that it has so many things that I like, other features that I love is that the files created are so accurate when printed, plus you can work in both 2D and 3D, and finally that can be used in almost all branches of engineering, is not specified or is dedicated to only one of them.

Cons

Its disadvantages in my opinion are few, it is a costly program but for the benefits it gives it is very well understood, it is also a program for which you need very good knowledge to get the best out of it, and finally you need a good computer to that the processing of the data is fast.

Pros

As an engineer, I work with and create many engineering drawings/figures for client construction and remedial projects and AutoCAD is the most universally used program. It is very simple to use from creating complex multi-layered drawings to simple figures with the ability to drop in pictures (jpegs, gif, etc.) to enhance the project deliverables. I also like the ability to print to a pdf file, which makes it convenient to email deliverables without having to attach all of the different referenced files.

Cons

It is a large program that can potentially take up a large amount of space and memory when operating. If you do not need the 3D functionality, I would recommend using the AutoCAD LT version as it can be smoother/quicker to operate.

Overall, I like the software. It has become a little too complicated for me. I highly recommend DraftSight, which is free (2D only) and is very simple and streamlined.

Pros

I learned on Autodesk AutoCAD. It is pretty much the industry standard. If you can think of something as far as drafting goes......you can design it in this software with 2D and 3D applications. There are so many technical tools that the software has been highly customized. It is very extensive in features/options now.

Cons

It can be a little overwhelming with all of the options to actually draft something with the current software. Simple drafting task have become daunting.
