Buildertrend Web-Based Construction Software


 

Buildertrend is a construction management system for home builders, remodelers, specialty contractors and general contractors. It combines project scheduling, project management, financial management, customer management and service management in a single suite. As a cloud-based platform, this system can be accessed online with a computer or mobile device.

Buildertrend provides pre-sale tools including a built-in customer relationship management (CRM) system, quick bids and proposals. Project management tools include scheduling, budgeting, time sheets and more. Customer management tools include change order and selection management, warranty requests and payment processing.

This system also integrates with other solutions such as QuickBooks, Xero and various dedicated estimating and takeoff tools.

Buildertrend provides each company with an account manager to provide training and support. Also included are customized branding, daily webinars, support chat, the Buildertrend Learning Community, a 24/7 help section and Buildertrend University.

I am a horrified customer forced to use this product to refit condos destroyed by Hurricane Harvey.

It looks like a well thought out package. It would be so much better if users could change selections. Road Runner said it is not possible, because the construction company needs to protect itself, in case a user changes an item after construction starts. Hogwash! Use a time stamp. Take a snapshot! Freeze the app at construction start date. There are many ways to skin that cat.

Pros

Pictures, prices, all available in one spot.
I love the fact that I can view by location, or category. But it is impractical to use because there is so much dead space between items.
It is great being able to tally up costs as you pick items. unfortunately the costs show up in the wrong fields. See the cons section for more.
I really love the pictures and the details. the fact that I can see multiple images , in different rooms of the floor that I picked, for example.

Very intuitive.

Cons

Summary Price information is all wrong. My total price and remaining balance are the same! How can that be? As I pick additional items the dollar figure under selections made goes down. How can that be? I have no idea what my condo rebuild will cost me.
It takes 500 click for me to pick flooring for 1 condo. I should be able to say "I want Tile- Wood Plank- 6"x 24" Lumber Gray tiles throughout". It takes hours for me to record what should take 1 minute!
Each section is organized difrently. in the 1st section (enterance) my tile is 1st on the grid. Then on the second(Kitchen) it is last! This makes it so hard to search.
If I look at a category view, there are page, after page of blank space between items, making it impossible to use. I have to go through 10 pages to move between flooring selections in this view making it useless. The same hold true for the location view. I suspect this is a function of the data loader, but the company and project managers always say "that is the way BY works" When I complain to Road runner restoration they say they can do nothing about it. They state they cant modify the software!
The user has no capability to undo selections! So if we make a mistake we need to wait a month for the construction company to make changes.
Items .
If I logon to two units in the same webbrowser, one overwrites the other! Aaaah!

I love the different calendar views and the ability to link tasks to other tasks. It is very nice to be able to save different templates and then just modify a few things saving a lot of time.

Cons

The PO interface with the sub contractors is nice but I wish there was a better way to build cleaner POs in BuilderTREND - especially to vendors that have a lot of products.

The well thought out platform from a construction point of view is great. A lot of software you come across for this industry is either too bulky and made for large scale commercial projects or only from a software engineer perspective of perfection. Congrats on you all blended the best of all.

Cons

Hands down the email platform in BT is horrendous. This has been my single biggest comment since day one. Spend the money to buy a better email platform. If BT is to be my single point of construction communication, then email is the pinnacle.

I wish there were more stars for Customer Service. Their Customer Service department is one of the finest that I have seen/worked with in a long time. They genuinely want to make sure you are happy with their product and they are willing to change their product if it helps their customer. I love that about them.

Pros

I find that it has an ease to get from one subject to the next in BuilderTrend. As long as you do the summary for all jobs you can keep apprise of the whole. I really enjoy BuilderTrend and so do our guys.

Cons

The only con that I have is that BuilderTrend does not offer an inventory option. We work in construction and several different jobs at a time, it would be nice if BuilderTrend would allow us to pull and put back inventory for each job to help us keep a running total for expenses

Fantastic integration across the board. Good for anyone who is trying to tie all the elements of a build together, particularly with communication between client, office & site.

Cons

A few little things, but admittedly they're being rectified over time. The purchase orders and accounts aren't perfect, and if some of your trades still require email correspondence you have to do a bit of double handling.

Pros

I like that everything from communication and financial is in one place! Both my customers and myself love the daily log features and the schedule. Not having to look for documents has been a real time saver also

Cons

Due to our business being in Canada and our dollar is so crapy, the monthly costs are quite expensive. I wish that you could use cost catalog all the time with making purchase orders and invoices. Its sometimes hard to pull them off the budget sheet once they have been used.

I was very impressed with this software. This software has great functionalitiy that allows it to be used many different ways to suit the client. It is very well priced and has unlimited training support and file storage. Additionally, I looked at many apps to aid my client this one by far has better reports than those of similar priced apps.

This software is priced by job/month. It can be used to classify all activity under one job, doing so will only slightly change the available options for jobs.

Experience has been exceptional!

Pros

We used Builder Trend to help manage our remodel projects. This software is ROBUST! We are able to manage bids, leads, proposals before the project starts. We are also able to manage the project as it progresses. We can assign jobs to our team, share photos, take daily log notes of the job progress. Finally, we're able to facilitate the payment process and it makes adding change orders a breeze! This has really made the process of renovating projects simpler!

Cons

The pricing is very high. It starts at very and this only allows 1 project per year. If you're rolling in projects left and right then it makes sense, but at a very high per project... it makes it tough to budget it in.

Pros

The customer service is fantastic. We have a dedicated rep who responds immediately and works with us to resolve any issues. Buildertrend also helps us integrate their online tools with our current project management systems, increasing efficiency and creating a very user-friendly experience.

While we appreciate the scheduling function and its ability to link subcontractors and users to tasks, some of the tools within the tasks are difficult to navigate, such as the successor/predecessor links between tasks. In addition, adding increased options in the views function would enable the user to see the overall schedule more easily.
Lastly, it would be nice to be able to see a high level calendar that shows all active jobs in relation to one another.

Jobs run faster, smoother, and the ability to work cooperatively with document sharing has been a game changer on many projects. Everyone is working from the same set of documents.

Pros

We work for a commercial construction company. While many GC's use Procore (a lot more money), we have found that BT does everything we need it to do. It offers cost reporting, invoicing, billing, change orders, submittals, document sharing, labor tracking, scheduling, lead management, and much more. There aren't many programs out there that will compete at this level for this price.

Cons

The lead management can be a little clunky to navigate at times. It's integration with Quickbooks could be better. The ability to batch edit clock times would be helpful if you have a larger work staff that is prone to making mistakes.

BuilderTrend is an all in one solution which makes it one of the best options for running a trade company right there.

Cons

The UI looks mid-2000's and is not intuitive. The entire thing feels like it needs to be redesigned from the ground up to me.

It is so easy to work with subs and manage the schedule of a project. It's completely customizable to fit us. We use our own logo and so much more to make us look even more professional.

Cons

We wish we had a better subcontract response rate. It takes time like with anything to make it work correctly.

I like that the clients can see what we are expecting to happen each day. I think it is great that we can set up a profile for them. It limits confusion in regard to what we have said and what we are saying now. Change orders being posted on there has really helped us track pricing and monies.

Cons

The whole system just tends to feel a little clunky. Moving dates on the calendar and adding resources, it is not always intuitive and that can sometimes make things more difficult than they need to be.
