Paychex Flex is a modular, web-based human capital management solution designed to meet the needs of employers of any size and industry. With a single login, users can access recruiting and applicant tracking (ATS), onboarding, HRIS, benefits administration, time and attendance, payroll, retirement, and more.

Built on a central platform, using a single data profile for each employee, Paychex Flex tracks information in real-time and across the customizable applications.

Some of the major software functions include applicant screening, electronic onboarding, job and labor costing, garnishment payments, drag-and-drop visual scheduling and automatic compliance testing.

Paychex offers multi-tiered options for customer service, which allows companies to choose from a variety of options to best fit their size and complexity.

Very straight to the point and user friendly. It allowed access to W2, stubs and time clock. Also on the mobile app, we were able to see location of an employee when they would clock in or out. I also liked that you could go in and enter future dates and pto balance would reflect the conditional balance.

Cons

I did not like that PTO balance would not reflect time requested and approved until actually used so if not organized, you may not actually have the time available.

All my pay information is in one place: Salary, deductions, 401k payments as well as all my banking and personal information. I love the fact that you can extract your paystubs directly without having to get them from HR. I have used the web and the app version and love both of them. Security is not an issue, you can set up your account for double verification login with your phone

Cons

I dont like the fact that you cannot export the paystub directly into an email, you need to download it, and then attach it to an email.

I absolutely think the world of my payroll specialist who has gone to great lengths to help me. She is very professional, efficient and excellent at her job.

Pros

Ease of finding reports and printing them. Navigation is very easy. the ability to pull reports from months ago is wonderful.

Cons

Trying to understand what the reports are telling me is sometimes difficult. There perhaps should be an explanation each each report (generically) about what it means? (Maybe there already is one and I haven't found it.)

Their classic version, while it was also difficult to use it seemed more intuitive in my opinion. I do not like the newer version of the software.

Pros

I can figure out how to use this software most of the time. But it is not user friendly in my opinion. I have had to call the support line and not always can I get the help when I need it.

Cons

Support line doesn't always have help when I'm online looking for the help. Usually by the time they get back to me I've either figured it out or gave up on the option.

When i was good it was very good but when it was bad........

The company is one we used for years and service was good off and on. The actual payment system was good.

Cons

The execution of the system was not helpful at all. We had so many different service people and could never get ahold of anyone when we had a problem. No return calls or emails. This made it hard to get things correct and have trust in the company

Nothing. They changed our payroll on multiple occasions without any interaction with us, then tried to charge us to change it.

Cons

I have never experience a company make so many mistakes, then try to charge us fees for their mistakes!

They routinely changed payroll amounts to employees without interacting with us. They would then want to charge correction fees, until I complained to supervisors, and sometimes the supervisor's supervisor.

They failed to transfer state income taxes for one of our employees, tried to blame us for failing to file the proper paper work, ignored our documentation of filing correctly, tried to assess a $400 correction fee, encouraged us to lie about the employee's move date and still have yet to resolve the issue after 8 months.

Too much turnover in the dedicated payroll specialist role. I think I've had four or five in the last five years, and transition experience has been mixed. Some great, some not good at all.

Pros

Ease of use, cost effective. Traditional version easy to use and fairly intuitive. Not looking forward to the new release based on what I have seen so far.

Cons

Inconsistent response time from the dedicated payroll specialist depending on which one we are referring to. See comment below.

My overall experience - Paychex has saved me time doing payroll! I would recommend to anyone looking for a payroll system.

Pros

I like that my employees can clock in and out online (Time & Attendance) and that it merges right into payroll. Also my employees request their PTO online (no paper anymore)! Paychex has saved me at least 3-4 hours of doing payroll. I also love the Online HR Library which answers all my questions and also has samples of forms that I can use. Reports are great!

Cons

Getting use to the new version that just came out after being on the old since we started.

As an employee it was incredibly easy to get set up in the system and view my paychecks. I love the app and how easy it is to view my paychecks either on screen or in PDF format and it's the best system that I've used as an employee. The app has a lot of additional functions like viewing tax documents and retirement accounts.

My paychecks have always been on time and accurate.

Cons

The iPad interface that we use for clocking in could use a design makeover and sometimes there won't be a message that my clock in was recorded (leaving me unsure if it recorded or not).

Paychex is a very popular service and the company I work for has been using it for a while with mixed results.

Cons

Who designed the log-in, log-out system? It looks nice, but starts to fall apart the second you use it. Four buttons - log in, lunch in, lunch out, log out are all clumped together at the top. Even the tiniest movement of the mouse will have you logging out instead of lunching out.
What's worse - when you try to navigate the lump of icons, they shift around, changing size to expand the one your mouse is currently on. This makes it even more difficult to choose the correct option.
Simple mistakes have serious consequences. If you've work 5 hours and try to click "lunch," but accidentally click "log in" again, you lose your 5 hours and it resets to 0. Why?
Our managers spend so much time fixes mistakes that could easily be avoided with the smallest design tweak - if Paychex would just put in the tiniest effort.

I like that I can see all my paperwork and info for multiple jobs with one login. I have 2 jobs so I can see both paystubs/w-2s/etc all in one place which I like. Plus, my 401k information and my FSA is all done through paychex flex so its nice to have it in one place.

Cons

I feel like the interface is a little hard to maneuver. I know we have a lot of capabilities but I have no idea how to use them. Getting to my 401k and trying to change/analyze it is a little hard and I am a pretty tech savy person.

As both a Paychex user and admin, I love how easy it is to navigate, you feel that your information is secure and if you experience an issue there is very short wait when calling customer services (typically no wait at all). When you first log into paychex, there are multiple security levels that one has to pass depending on your preference. Also, once you are in there is a dashboard with shortcuts to all the most used features. Paychex is constantly improving their software which is exciting. Our company is really enjoying the new live reports that update on a daily basis calculating everything from turnover rate, average headcount, and hired & termed totals.

Cons

We really enjoy using this software, there is nothing we dislike at the moment.

Working with Paycheck and doing only essentially data entry and payroll is usually very enjoyable. Mostly positive things to say about tech support. We don't use this for keeping our timecards so I manually input our hours and checks.

Pros

For simple data entry and payroll this software is easy breezy.

Cons

When getting into reports or anything that you have not done before the help button is either just a jpeg or the program doesn;t work in Chrome. I haven't tried it in another browswer. They recently rolled out new a software upgrade that is unusable because the buttons are grayed out and the tech support acknowledged that.
Their saving grace is that the tech support is pretty good as long as you get them within business hours.

Easy to use, and conveniently accessible through Paychex app. Employees are able to view and easily save or print document comes tax season. Eliminates junk since pay stubs are accessed via flex account.

Cons

Before Paychex was not sending email to let employees know about Flex app. This was fixed with one of they latest updates, so no cons at the moment. Sometimes page goes blank but if Tech team is contacted they are able to help.

I'd say it was fair at best. It was a difficult transition and once we got there the support was disappointing.

Pros

I was online, obviously easier than paper. It generally worked OK. It provided needed data for our employees.

Cons

I had several idiosyncrasies and wasn't as easy to use, at least for us, as Paycom. Most disappointing was the support. The personnel weren't easy to get in touch with and often not as knowledgeable as we would like. It was very difficult to get several items resolved, especially in any kind of a timely fashion.

The tool itself is pretty good. They will try to upsell you in a number of areas. I found overall service integrity of the company the key issue and im still struggling through a number of issues nearly 6 months after discontinuance. If you have an issue, escalation is nearly impossible.

Pros

It was easy to set up and execute routinely for every payroll.

Cons

Backend processes failed a number of times. I received letters from the IRS due to inaction by Paychex and they kept on billing me well after I'd discontinued services.

No more being in the office to do payroll. The secure website that can be accessed anywhere has definitely been a bonus for us!

Pros

I love the ease and convenience of Paychex Flex. Payroll can be done from anywhere. Changes, additions, deletions take place immediately. Reports can be pulled within seconds. Love the easy to use site.

Cons

I preferred the classic view to the new payroll layout.
