Fishbowl Manufacturing Software


 

Fishbowl is a business automation and inventory management platform for small to midsize companies. It integrates with QuickBooks accounting and offers inventory control, material requirements planning (MRP) and job shop floor control/manufacturing execution.

It is an inventory-centric system, with features for barcoding, asset management, raw materials management, cycle counting and customized reporting. The system also automates the quoting, ordering and purchasing processes. The work order system enables users to create and share work orders for a variety of tasks.

Fishbowl offers training and support resources through its training videos, online tutorials, in-house specialists and more. Fishbowl’s integration with QuickBooks allows users to integrate manufacturing, sales, and distribution processes with back office accounting. Additionally, it also integrates with third-party accounting, shipping, e-Commerce and merchant services.

When I purchased Fishbowl there were many issues and I was very frustrated. After several attempts I met one of the CSR and can I say what a breath of fresh air he was and is. It is nice to meet someone who has your concerns on his mind when he approaches you and the way he handles matters is the way any company owner appreciates. He has been above the call of duty every time he handles my concerns.

I must say my hand goes out to him and would shake his hand any time he is the room and give a smile and acknowledge him with the same respect he gives to me as a business owner running a company smoother thanks to his help and encouragement.

As a business owner we are challenged every day and with the daily grind you feel at times lost and alone. After meeting him and having a person in your corner with you striving to ensure you have little challenges is beyond a relief it is a dream instead of a nightmare.

Thanks for being part of LEW and making me feel like I have support instead of pressure!

Pros

Inventory Tracking is the biggest thing. Easy of use with Sales Order and Purchase Orders. It sends my accounting info to Quickbooks automatically at the end of the day.

Cons

Set up was a little time consuming. It took some effort to get everything in properly and just adapting to the new software functionality.

Cons

Have had a few issues with the plug-ins but nothing major. There's a good news / bad news aspect to the number of software updates, which are close to monthly. It gets new capabilities out quickly, but it can be a lot of updates to keep up with.

Cons

Through my experience, Fishbowl is not the solution for a small manufacturer that operates on just enough just in time.

Pros

They are affiliated with quickbooks (which does nearly everything Fishbowl will do with a couple add ons).

Cons

Sales will say the software can do everything needed for inventory/purchasing, customer support really doesnt understand your business so they cant effectively address software concerns, you have to pay prior to onsite training, you cant really get your concerns fully addressed until onsite training, you can get the "satisfaction guaranteed" (read the fine print) training cost back if your concerns are not resolved. Inventory and purchasing modules did not seem to work well for just enough just in time manufacturing. Your work flow from sales order to work order to BOM to inv levels better be perfect for the software to even allow you to get paperwork to the shop to start a job (regretfully at our company we have to improvise on occasion to get a job going). You hear we can customize for your application often. If you start hearing that a lot from them, this is not your solution.

Hard to imagine what I could recommend about this software. About the only positive is the screen layout is easy to read.

Cons

Where to start... to print any info you need to call it a report, of which you only get a few with the price. Every additional is hundreds per report. So we were extremely limited in how we used it. We had to work around it rather than it working for us.

We've had an awesome experience. With the implementation team to help get things going to the ongoing support, we've always been able to get a quick answer to our challenges. US based support was paramount in our buying decision and the support staff has been nothing short of excellent.

Pros

Once you understand the underlying modules, how they operate, and develop a strategy consistent with your business requirements; you've got a super inventory control system.

Cons

The UI seems dated but functional. It would be great to have the ability to create wizards that would step users through data entry within modules, bypassing entry of redundant selections, and providing smoother flow throughout the process.

This is an amazing product, it can do almost everything from basic inventory to full on manufacturing and shipping. Their support is amazing, I recently worked with rep via chat support and phone support on a plugin problem over 4 days. Rep was patient and very helpful, Stuck with me until the problem was corrected.

Cons

The only con I can note is when the software itself updates the plugins need updates that will require some TLC from the user. However the support is amazing.

It was a horrible experience. Where should we start... They did not tell us the advanced technical skills required during their sales pitch. They then try to close you quick by offering a discount. It took us over a month to install servers and remote desktops to get to the point that we could start using the software. After a month of a lot of time investment on our end, the product kept crashing and would not even open. We were told we were outside our 30 day return window so they would not provide a refund. We stated that we had not been able to use the product yet, have not added any of our data to it, and it would not even open or run properly - and that we would take a partial refund as a compromise. They still denied it. They seem to be a company with outdated software that is struggling financially. They would rather have upset customers and negative feedback than try to resolve issues. The entire experience felt very fraudulent on their behalf, selling a product that doesn't work, with false projections of requirements, and refusal to refund one dime.

Pros

There was nothing to like because we were never able to get the software running.

Cons

The software looks outdated. It requires advanced technical skills like running a server and installing remote desktops. It's not easy to use, and keeps crashing.

I've used this software with a couple of different clients (I'm a CPA that consults with small businesses). It is a nice addition to QuickBooks as it handles all of the inventory heavy lifting.

Pros

It integrates nicely with QuickBooks and handles all the complex inventory valuation/counts outside of QuickBooks. It's really a great addition if you have a lot of inventory and are using QuickBooks.

Cons

It's a little pricey, but most inventory softwares are. Also, if you're using it, make sure you're using that latest version. They updated a couple years ago and I've seen clients struggle because the client wanted to save money and not upgrade.

I'm an Advanced QuickBooks Pro Advisor and I specialize in Inventory set up and management. I haven't found any program with as many capabilities at such a low cost range as Fishbowl. Netsuite can handle what Fishbowl does but can easily go into the hundreds of thousands to setup and get started and I found the process very complex. Fishbowl on the other hand, can import from QuickBooks and have you set up and running in just a few minutes, though I stress that this should be used as test only. To accurately use Fishbowl it can take months to setup and learn properly. This largely depends on your current experience with technology, accounting practices and inventory knowledge.

Cons

The support isn't stable. Depending on your time zone, you'll get a different team. Some zones, depending on the day and time, will pick up your call immediately and be very knowledgeable and helpful. Others will take a day to get back to you and you'll get someone who's only been there a few months but will confidently tell you something as fact and you might find our later they don't actually know what they're talking about. However, the online wiki is very detailed so if you're someone who can figure out things on your own, this will be a huge help. Basically, I've found that most people who complain about Fishbowl are really complaining about inventory, which is hugely complex. But if you're a detail oriented company with personnel who don't cut corners, Fishbowl can be an excellent fit for you. Just don't expect it to be easy!

Fishbowl provides numerous benefits for an employee and can make a lot of internal processes easier. The functionality and different features offered are what I like most about the software.

Cons

The software can run slower if there are numerous users on it and the maximum limit can hinder the productivity of employees.

This was the inventory software at my last job. While I did not work in warehouse environment , I still used the software a few times a week. The company was happy with the product and didn't have any plans to change it up. It fulfilled their needs.

Pros

I used this software a lot at my last job. Once you learn the software, it is fairly easy to use. I had to contact them a couple times for assistance. They were always helpful and timely with responses. Good reporting and integration.

Cons

Some parts of the software in the beginning felt difficult to navigate through, making the learning curve tricky for someone who had not previously used inventory management software. Although once I learned it, it was fine.

User friendly, lots of features, very nice inventory tracking. Easy to generate POs and receive them.

Cons

BOM stages do not work properly as described in the Wiki. If we have sub-assemblies built already on the shelf, the manufacturing orders ignore this fact and try to say we need to build the entire order quantity's sub-assemblies from scratch. Everything is set up as "short quantity" and should pull from built inventory first, and then say we need to build the short quantity of sub assemblies we don't have.

Cost to manufacture order is not accurate and does not account for sub-assemblies properly. I have discussed with various members of the Fishbowl team and everyone is aware that the software does not work the way it is claimed, but they have no solution. The development team will supposedly fix this core function of the software within 2-6 months, but we need the software to operate properly now, so unfortunately we must seek another ERP software after pouring many hours into setup of this one.
