Kareo is a Web-based EHR, medical billing, and practice management used by thousands of physicians across the United States. This system suits small practices and billing companies. With Kareo, practices can schedule patients, confirm insurance, manage delinquent accounts and the collections process, store patient documents, develop customized reports and more.

Practices can be up and running within 48 hours of signing up. The system starts at a low monthly rate with no contract, no set-up fees without the worry of maintaining and updating the software.

Pros

You get a live person anytime you need assistance. A person that speaks clear English ! Their customer service is stellar!

Cons

Might be a bit overwhelming to a small practice like ours but they cater to all needs. We are small so some items we may not use but Kareo does show you everything from point a to b on how to use to the fullest!

Looks good only if it works. A lot of work needed to be able to correct your claim if it gets denied or rejected

Cons

Could not get ERA electronically connected for the main insurance company. Tries more than a year with no success. Told us to sign a contract for billing then they will fix the problem. Really!!!

Sometimes there is an error of kareo publishing the billing statements that is so awful and it has big impact on our business, one small make mistake can make us big suffer.

Kareo is super easy to get comfortable with if you’ve ever used an EHR, works in most browsers, cloud based, rarely if ever have we had a system slowdown or shutdown. The scheduler, in clinic workflow, and patient communication are really well done. ERx and direct address are well integrated. Templates are numerous and easy to build and customize. Easy to use old notes to build new ones. Very easy for non clinical staff to learn.

Cons

Using Kareo in a cash only environment isn’t the easiest. They steer you to their credit card processor and don’t really make it easy to run your own. The support is mostly responsive but can be superficial.

Overall, great EMR and PM that is manageable on a modern platform.

Pros

Integration with PM and Telemedicine platforms are nearly seamless
Support is available and always ready to setup screen share
It actually works like it's supposed to. Rarely has technical problems where this is so common with other PMs and EMRs I've used.

Cons

Like all RCM software, it has a learning curve and can be confusing at first
There are a lot of online tools that are helpful but not always introduced until you inquire about it.
Does not work on Mac OS unless you have Virtual machine - something they should mention on the sales call

In general, Kareo helps the front desk do their job efficiently and customer support is always willing to help.

Pros

I love how easy-to-read the platform is. Kareo has everything you need in a doctor's office to organize patient data.

Cons

Automatic messaging is convenient and I thank Kareo for making it easy to do so, but sometimes it may get overwhelming and may turn off a customer if done too much.

I really love this product especially on posting. I don't need to do it manually. It is also easy to tract the Secondary Claims that are ready to send as well as all claims that are ready to submit.

Cons

The only thing I'm kind a not happy is there is no way to pull out a report for Secondary Payer Only. it will always give me the agency rate balance not the actual balance after Primary Payer Payment

FaceSheet can not be custom arranged
Amending a note does not revise the note and label it as amended, but rather keeps original note and attaches the changes at the end.

The absolute ONLY pro's to this software is the GIU and the IOS app. That is IT! A complete bait and switch!

Cons

I have over 100 ticket items that have not been addressed. Here are just a few reason this software is a complete waste of money.
1. Customer support - non existent. Weeks for anyone to get back to you just to tell you that it will be passed on to someone else.
2. Managed Billing is a complete SCAM! Tens of thousands in rejections, denials with no effort placed on rectifying. We hired a independent firm to review and their review was "This software company is scamming people". So much proof of complete neglect.
3. Billing Illegally adds "features" without your consent to charge. Then it takes 3 weeks of 100 phone calls for them to finally say, "oh, it was a mistake and we'll credit you"
4. data export - so after you just about go broke because you cannot bill with Kareo, you PAY them more money to export you data just to find out that all your data CANNOT be exported!

Do NOT give this company your bank account or electronic payment information. They will continue to withdraw funds out of your account even after they promised not to. Worst choice in EMR or EHR.

I used it to keep patients records for some time. I learnt that it was useful only if the problems are removed.

Pros

It is available on ipad and has a web version accessible everywehre.
Relatively cheaper than the competitior (drchrono)
Was free in the past so this one is only a good feature of the past (which allowed me to test it)
I really appreciate they have finally added patient messaging improvements to the ipad version

Cons

Least things happen automatic almost everything is manual (even lacks autosave for notes)
Messyness throught the experience
only for small or medium set up so i can not recommend to the hospital because of the lack of support for cordination at such a level
Only works with online pharmacies in the US (or atleast not in the country where i work)

I learned a lot about billing because I had to figure things out on my own.

Pros

Eventually (after months of problems) it can help somewhat with billing. My account rep has always been friendly (though cannot answer many questions, promises to get back to me, and then does not).

Cons

Their training is horrible. The support is horrible. You are left in the dark about setting up insurance companies and start-up. There are free options out there, so use them if you can, because paying for Kareo support and training is throwing away your money.

This is a program for medical practice and not big groups. The program provides basic tools to run a business and a successful growing practice. IT is a cloud based program which is great for providers / staff who are on the go and need access to the program. Also a plus if you have off site staff ex: Billers.

Cons

Started as a free program and and no charges different plan levels. Some features that were once a free item are now restricted. If you had utilized the features prior to the paid version you must purchase at that level. Customer Support is very difficult to contact and gives you piece-mail information instead of giving you more information on how to maximize the capabilities of the program.

None I can't think of a positive as we are still blinded by the lack of support we experienced. Most staff don't know about their own system

Cons

ADP is the best choice. The EHR part of Kareo has many flaws, very little control and is a poorly designed system in comparison to other EHR/PM systems on the market.

Incompetent staff. Nobody can understand what it's like running a medical practice within Kareo. Their support staff are poorly trained and Kareo allows practices to have little control over drop down labels, deleting staff from drop down menus. The simplistic tasks seem like moving Mount Everest.

Cons

onboarding both a clinic and individual providers a bit expensive, and better suited for larger clinics with multiple providers. they are also very very persistent for months and months after declining to onboard.

Having multiple Drs under one set up was originally tricky. Once I was able to get in there and move around a little I was able to do what I needed and patients have not been affected.

Pros

The reporting ability and the ease of being able to explain a balance to a patient. Scheduling a patient on the right day/time is important and being able to time block and customize for 5 Drs has been beneficial.

Customer Service reps are always there when we need them to walk us through an issue, which isn't what we always experience.

Cons

Updates can be tricky. If we had notice of exactly what pieces were being updated, it would help out quite a bit. However, updates aren't that frequent and usually its for the better.

Electronic billing.

Pros

Automated text message reminders sent to patients when they work are helpful. The software automatically posts good reviews to multiple websites.

Cons

Separate EHR and billing programs. Nowhere on an eval or POC for a physician to sign and date, ( have to hand draw a line, looks unprofessional). Need to enter a patient's referring physician every time on the billing sheet, it doesn't automatically transfer from the demographic data. Manually have to fill in an authorization on to the billing sheet from the billing program (requires remembering which patients have limited visits or dates) for every encounter. Customer services takes weeks to correct a problem. One issue with a template took 6 months!!

It was a great system for a small clinic as I have experience with Epic as well. This software made my job easier as a scribe as we no longer need to use paper and pen.

Pros

I think , billers must have created this tool. The integration with the clearing house is fabulous. We can track claims and work rejections/denials immediately.

Cons

Its disappointing to admit that the support and troubleshooting was not that great. I have had many times where I have had to get with Kareo support for some system glitches and errors. It slowed down my work as a scribe.

I am truly puzzled as to how Kareo has ANY good reviews at all.

Literally, none other than the fact that its cloud/web based.

Pros

It looks pretty...especially on the clinical side. They have INCREDIBLE SALES PEOPLE who will make you think Kareo software and everything else about the company is GREAT.

Cons

Support is horrible and its very hard to get anyone that you can understand. Even if you can understand, they don't know billing or the software and seem to just be working off of some script Kareo has put together for them. The success coaches literally just send links to the online help like you haven't already read that crap and were unable to find the answer yourself.....if the answer were actually there, but it isn't. Very hard to see what patient payments are for if a parent of a child pays because it only shows the cardholders name. Very difficult to make payments. You have to go to 30 different places to see one patient's account. I really do not like this software at all, but I really don't have achoice in the matter as my provider likes the clinical side of things.

I wish this product was out on the market befor.
Great product by far the most easy to navigate thru the system. Need to have more products like.

Cons

Is it reliable on all sources? Have to up load and download all the time. Needs new updates every few years.

Their EHR software is good. It meshed well with their billing software and the whole system is easy to use once you learn it.

Cons

It took a while to learn how everything works together. It is a friendly system, but a bit different than other EHR software so it took a while to learn.

I like the clinical area, as that is what I try to look for with products these days. The billing feature has not been used. I like the charting

Cons

It's a bit pricey for what you get. So of the items seem to not be as smooth as I would like. However overall good.
