For more than 20 years, Nextech has provided a full-featured EMR and Practice Management solution within a single database. This system is a fit for dermatologists, plastic surgeons, ophthalmologists, and physicians, and is used by approximately 7,000 providers and 50,000 office staff worldwide.

The web-based, multi-platform system has a native mobile app where physicians can check appointments, view patient profiles, and access all EMR information from anywhere. The iPad app is built to recreate the feel of a paper charting system, integrating patient photos for personalization, and allowing physicians to draw directly on photos and images. Doctors can flip through patient documents as if they’re paper, view lab results and make to-do lists from the app's dashboard view.

As a modular system, Nextech is adaptable to a practice's individual needs. Additionally, the system is pre-configured with customizable forms and specialty-specific content. it works as scheduling, EMR, and for resource management. It meets basic minimum requirements but that's really it.

Cons

where to start:
1. Server and expensive licensing to maintain the servers/hardware site
2. software is ridiculously expensive and yearly support doubly so
3. their feature set is weak and many don't work
4. customer support is really terrible
5. that's just the beginning

Each and every staff member is both knowledgeable AND helpful. It would be great to be part of a monthly interactive advisory group (other than the community portal). Would be nice to have a direct link to the portal after logging in to MDI. Thanks!

Pros

Support team! Short wait times. Complete answers when you get a person on the phone. Frequently they think ahead and anticipate your next question.

Cons

So many variables. Lots of decisions to make and options to set up. Difficult to make the "right" decisions at the beginning. Sometimes the changes seem too fast - and too much to keep up with just to stay current. Although the flexibility is a double edged sword (your flexibility is also a benefit!)

Nextech is a very robust combined PM/EMR solution. Our practice has 4 locations and we do a variety of services, and Nextech is able to handle 95% of what we need. The practitioners like iPad app for charting.

The Nextech team is continually working on improvements and upgrades, and the community portal allows all of us to request new enhancements and also to vote on enhancements for the next release.

Pros

We have a complicated scheduling process, and Nextech's scheduling tool is able to handle it with booking rules and schedule template.

Cons

Nextech does not support automatic monthly payments. This requires us to have staff manually process membership payments every day.
The support for Nextech is good in that you always get a person, but sometimes you many wait in a queue for up to 45 minutes.

Pros

Navigating between modules (financial, admin, emr) is simple. Payments are easy to batch and process. Billing follow function makes tracking claims/collections easy.

Cons

Reports could be easier to manipulate. Nextech partners with Trizetto clearinghouse so some functionality (ex: batching eligibility inquiries) is limited if you use a different clearinghouse.

Cons

Customer Service!!!! Not only are there many shortcomings to the PM portion their customer service reps rarely know how to fix problems or answer questions. Continuously get different answers to the same question. Hold times are VERY LONG and then you spend most of the call on hold while they look for a supervisor to assist. I literally dread calling NEXTECH.

Customer service was terrible unless your willing to pay an extra amount. No-one ever calls back! Representatives are only interested in selling you something so they can collect a commission which was admitted by them!

A mediocre software with an awfull support

A lot of different reports available, especially for marketing purpose. But I wish the data export would be easier.

Cons

The SMS Reminder module doesn't work. The support team doesn't answer our emails. It's impossible to know who is in charge of a problem. Our requestsare beeing forwarded from one service to another. No one takes responsiblity. We have open issues since over a year and there is no solution in sight. In the meantime, we loose a lot of Doctors'time because of no shows. We started with the basic settings and planed to buy several other modules. But we are considering other options now. My advice : hands off.

I regretted buying this after the first year. Stuck with them for ten years due to the huge expenditure up front and then year after year threw more good money after bad. Ten years later I am finally leaving them.

Honestly can't think of any pros. Ten years ago the pros were that it was advertised as the most comprehensive and complete EMR/PMS geared towards plastic surgeons. But now there are so many other options at a fraction of the cost. So the pros back then and the edge has been lost and over shadowed by the long list of cons

-nickel and dime business model where they charge you for every single thing! They sell you an ultra pricey software and when things dont work, instead of fixing it they tell you that you need to pay for more things! I bought every module they had and have been paying an arm and a leg for support but they manage to fragment features into more modules which they try to sell. The money bleeding never stops with this company
-outrageous phone wait times for support. Routinely 30-40 minute wait times.
-company getting worse year after year not better

Though we only use certain aspects of the software rarely, we either must pay the FULL support fee or agree to shut down that support of that component. If we shut down support of that component and then decide to use again in the future, we will need to REPURCHASE that compnent ---- even though we already paid the full purchased price for that component alone (EMR). If you make 10,000 emr entries annually or 100, you pay the same fee for support. This is not attractive to lower volume practices.

We've had Nextech for over two years now and have yet to see a fully developed EMR. In addition to the four days of EMR implementation , we've paid for hours of support and have even paid for an additional on-site visit from Nextech's implementation team. The implementation specialist that came on site the last time told us that they hired her to fix their EMR and that she's really only had time to work on the cosmetic side of the system. Since then there have been promises to fix the system which have all fallen through. Two weeks ago I was promised a call (within a day or so) by the SVP of Sales, that call has yet to occur.

This company will continue to charge you even after you have stopped using there software -- and don't for a minute buy into the fact that you are "purchasing" this software. This company is not transparent. They create basic changes to their software and try to charge each clinic a fee for the upgrade. We stopped using this product over a year ago and they are still trying to charge us $$$$ a year to allow us to have access to a medical record that we own.

I use Nextech on a regular basis throughout my work day. As the Clinical Staff Supervisor, it has made the training portion of my job a breeze, even those with little to no EMR experience are quick to catch on thanks to Nextech's ease of use. It is also very easy to move around in the patient's chart, which is extremely beneficial when scribing on behalf of our providers and dealing with multiple problems at one time.

I am in charge of the Laboratory, both Pathology and Clinical Labs, and I have found the lab module very helpful in keep up with each patients results and being about to see when results are dropped to the charts.

Pros

It has been a fairly easy system for all staff members to learn

Cons

Would like to have had more one on one training for certain modules. I feel we would have been able to work thru problems faster had we had more training time. It takes some time to figure out how you want to incorporate each module and make it work for your practice.

Nextech is well written and customizable for each provider. Very simple for new staff to pick up when training.

Cons

Dislike the software backup methodology. Could be more streamlined so it takes less time and in addition, you'll need a device to backup a so-called workstation backup (I use a NAS) and the server backup backs up to a folder on the server so you'll need to think about space requirements when engineering a solution. In addition to the built in solution to the software I also backup the entire server using a thrid-party imaging solution.

Pros

Ease of use, customer service, great training on the community portal once you get on it. The support people are great. All in all the software is pretty practical and straightforward and the support techs really do seem to want to address the issues. There is very little wait time for getting a support person which us nice.

Cons

Took me 2 months to get onto the community portal and only after I called. They didn't respond to my email about requesting access which is how they are supposed to grant you access.

Basic scheduling needs and some reporting.

Pros

Scheduling is easy, drop down menus can be personalized. Maintaining providers schedules is simple.

Cons

One glitch that is frustrating is name changes. Once a patient is in the system, you can't change their name or the system deletes their file data. Photos, op reports, everything. It's a frustrating process b/c to make any new documentation legally correct, you have to go in by hand an change every where it's written, which on surgical consents can be almost 20 times. Then anything automated that goes out still has their wrong name. For divorced patients this is a frustrating reminder.
Most importantly though is the yearly fee. Once you purchase this software, you then have to continue purchasing it every year or it doesn't work properly (no updates) and you have no support from Nextech if something goes wrong. I wasn't here when it was purchased, but our physician emphatically denies every knowing this was going to be the case when he made the initial buy in. We pay thousands a year for this system, but switching seems very daunting and they know that. You're basically trapped when you buy in...if you don't pay, which we haven't for almost a year, then decide to break down and do it, it only back pays. Say you miss a year, you will have to pay for the year of service you DIDN'T get and then another year to get up to date. It's a huge rip off.

The benefit is the practice management. It is very user friendly. It offers most any kind of financial report you may be looking for

Very user friendly. The customer service is excellent. They offer a number of financial reports.
The inventory and commission based module is very easy to use for our estheticians. You can track everything. We have four locations, the messaging between users is very convenient and we use it every day between offices.
Sending claims out to clearing house is fast and efficient. The system will flag a claim that has something incorrect on it. You can fix it immediately and send out.
Totally love the PM part of Nextech

Cons

I do not like the EMR. Very overwhelming. Needs to be more user friendly. The doctors complain they have to go through to many steps and it takes to long.

All in one program from start to finish, no need for other programs. For a novice person there is not a lot of hard training to be involved.

Cons

Support is severely lacking. Long hold times, a lot of the time technician cannot fix it and cloud version not all that cracked up to be.

We have major issue with the support. When you call for support, it's very common that you will hear that you are 18th caller. Yes, I mean 18th or worse on many several occasion. They have option that you call leave a message for someone to call you back or e-mail your inquiry but you will never hear from anyone and in one occasion I got a call back after 5 days. When you are patient enough and tried to wait until the next available expert is ready to take a call, you will mostly get a novice support that's practically repeating your question and make you wait while they input your case in the system.

In case of emergency feature, I system wont start after electrical glitch. I was able to get hold of someone after 2 days and I was explained that nextech resource was limited on the weekend.
