Slack Software

Slack is a cloud-based project collaboration and team interaction tool designed to facilitate communication across organizations. The solution caters to various industries, including media, research, technology, education, financial services, retail, transport and logistics.

Slack provides public channels for members across organizations to start conversations. Private channels enable interaction within smaller teams, and direct channels help send messages directly to colleagues.

Slack incorporates feeds from social media into the application and blends them with ongoing conversations in various channels. Files such as PDFs, images, documents and spreadsheets can be shared via drag and drop.

Slack archives messages, notifications, files (as well as the contents of files) and projects, all of which can be searched for later. Slack allows users to customize their notifications and reduce their scope. All changes are reflected in the native applications available for iOS and Android.

Pros

Lot of little things you can do to make it really work for you, ie pin docs, send group messages, the app is solid too.
It basically kills email
I love the reminder feature

Cons

Sometimes I wish it would ask "do you really want to post this" in a multi-group channel
Easy to delete when you make a mistake - but a prompt would be nice
Stop asking me to setup G drive

Pros

Slack is very easy to use and has many features that prove to be beneficial every day. We use Slack more than email because of how easy it is and because its nice to see who's online anywhere in the business.

Cons

The user interface can be updated a little to look more modern and not so crammed. Small price to pay for such a good program.

I use slack to communicate with the tech team at my company. It is easy to use and keeps my coworkers connected.

Pros

Slack is a great way to communicate with coworkers.
You can easily ping someone for a quick question, send information by dropping it in the text box, or make a video or phone call

Cons

I have not had any problems with slack. The only issue I have found with slack is that not everyone on my company is on it. The tech team loves it, but some of the other departments prefer to message through a different system. It would be nice to all be on the same messaging system.

Pros

The functionality and integration of slack is definitely the best part about it. We can automate and streamline all communication channels we implement via slack, we also implemented bots that monitor our services and can be queried directly via the slack client.

Cons

The free tier of slack only allows up to 10,000 messages in your history to be captured which can be a nuisance if you don't keep track of your messages (we have a bot to make sure our messages get cleaned up when the channel is about to hit 10k).

Overall Slack has really helped leverage our business and keep the communication seamless among our team!

Pros

We use this product on our work computers and on mobile and love how easy it is to communicate between our team! It is easy to organize the work space via channels, which you can categorize according to the current project or business needs. You can also have a private conversation with 1 team member or multiple in personal chats. The best features are file integration in with you can load documents into the conversation or channel, each user can add their input real time and upload their work as well.

Cons

Wish the free version did not limit your number of messages, but understand why since no one would purchase the paid version if it did not.

It makes staying in touch easy, and if you need to jump on a call with someone, you can do it in 2 seconds, even if they are on the other side of the planet. Its a great tool for staying in touch with employees and colleagues.

Pros

Its simple to use, easy to keep in touch with people, easy to share files when colleagues and simple to use on a mobile device as well.

Pros

I like how it gets our team out of their emails and all in one place. Things are quickly found by a wide range of ways to fit per user and runs laps around hunting through old email archives. Having slack on all devices is great too, plus the integrations with 3rd party apps is hard to beat. Whatever we have thrown at Slack it keeps coming back with more, so our team has been very glad we have been using it.

Cons

File management could be a little better similar to how MS Teams does it, but then again they have the power of Sharepoint behind it. The workaround for Slack is Cloud Storage integrations which work, but I would like to see some more availability for native file management. Really thats it. I've used MS Teams a lot as it has rolled out so I have suggestions for both but overall I like Slack better than Teams.

The best of its kind. The most relevant "competitor" is groupme, but even that doesn't come close to the wide variety of functionality that Slack has.

Pros

The fact that it's a central application that I can utilize to communicate with all of my colleagues individually or with entire departments and subgroups in the company via channels is great.

also I love that it has a ton of integrations already made - for example I connected slack with the Hubspot Live Chat - which allow me to see when someone requires live support on hubspot.

Cons

I wish it was easier to create bots to handle certain kinds of messages.

It is best used as a chat channel with humans or as a place to integrate on the various channels your communication with devices and servers which report to you.

Pros

I love this app. I started using it as my co-op mentor used it to organize group meetings and also to private message me. After graduation, I still used it but switched workspaces entirely leaving the old behind. In Slack, I can organize projects by #channels and my @partners working on projects can chat about developments which everyone can read and importantly have a permanent record of. We integrated it with Freshdesk to ensure customer requests are handled promptly when I worked for one company and the best use is my integration with IFTTT. I had D-Link motion detector plugged in the common area as my former landlord would always sneak into our suite and I would always have a few seconds of advanced warning to put on more clothes just before he appeared. Importantly, I had a record on my #motionsenor channel that someone was creeping outside my suite usually in the early hours of the morning. Now I manage a few cloud servers and with webhook integration, they report their progress on tasks to me and all I do is sit back monitor them.

Cons

I actually do not have any issues with Slack. I use as one of my many apps that I use and may not use all the functions available and also as I am on the free plan am limited to the number of intergration with other apps that I can do.

Cons

I think it's fine but I see it confusing, if I have slack, on my pc and then I go to another pc and intalo slack, what I hope is only to be able to log in with my user and that the working groups I'm in, like in Discord, wherever you go you have your groups synchronized in your account. In slack you have to do additional steps with the mail. I do not like that

Pros

I have used Slack for setting up communication groups with work teams, family, and friends. It is a perfect app to use whether you are planning a family vacation, or planning a work project, and all team members can instantly contribute to the discussion from their various devices (its cross-platform functionality is superb!) I also like how easy it is to switch between your various slack groups from within the app!

Cons

The app on windows is occasionally laggy. This doesn't really present a problem, but can be rather annoying. It really only happens when launching the app or when switching to it. It doesn't happen very frequently, say once every week or two, but it can be jarring to wait an extra 10 seconds when you're not expecting it.

Pros

Slack has a *lot* of features. File transfer, powerful searching, calendar integration, multiple group support - all of it makes for a full collaboration tool rather than just a simple chatting app. It's sort of like someone trimmed down the Google cloud-based apps and make one centralized tool that is easy to use.

Honestly, I can't think of anything about Slack that I don't enjoy. This does everything I'd like it to, and it even looks nice.

This software is used by my companies to maintain communication between employees and departments. The interface is simple but effective. The option to create communication channels with several different employees also helps to streamline collaboration.

Cons

Make sure you know how to control your notification settings. If you are part of a channel that has many coworkers participating, your desktop may be bombarded with notifications from that chat.

Slack has made corporate communications easy. I am constantly working with offices elsewhere and Slack is a savior. Features integrations are great, too.

Cons

Sometimes makes it hard to unplug. Occasional system crashes.

Slack is a great tool that has drastically improved our team communication and responsiveness.

Pros

Slack is awesome because it makes team collaboration a breeze. We have a free instance of Slack and a paid instance of Slack at our institution. Slack makes it easy to troubleshoot bugs, discuss new features, and plan for upcoming releases. Being able to create private channels to work through software issues is crucial to responding quickly to bug reports without having to constantly reply all in a never-ending email thread. Slack also has excellent app integrations that are easy to install and excellent.

Cons

The price is for Slack is starting to detract our organization. There are other options in the market that may do everything we need for either way less or included in our licensing agreements. The Slack interface is also starting to feel old also. A refresh would be welcome.
