Skype for Business Software


 

Skype for Business is a hybrid voice messaging solution that enables teams and individuals across the world to communicate and collaborate. It offers both cloud-based and on-premise solutions.

This solution allows users to interact via text messaging, audio and high-definition (HD) video communication. It supports collaboration through video conferencing that can support multiple people using phone or internet.With Skype for Business, online meetings can also be recorded for use later on. Since the solution is tightly integrated with Microsoft Office applications, it enables users to share files and make presentations on the call.

Users can view the online status of their contacts and schedule meetings with them through Microsoft Outlook. They can also start a conversation from other Microsoft applications, such as Word or PowerPoint.

Skype for Business facilitates texting and calling to mobile and landline phones. Other important features include support for third-party dial-in and the ability to remotely control others’ desktops.

Services are offered on a monthly subscription basis that includes support via email and an online knowledge base.

Everybody in our business unit uses this to communicate regularly. Besides the obvious benefit of talking with each other regularly, I like that it let's people in the office know if someone is at the computer working (green light) or in a meeting/away from desk (red light). With just a glance I can see if it's worth it to walk to someone's desk or not.

Cons

Sometimes the call quality is poor when talking to people across the country. They've improved significantly though and it has gotten better.

The amount of platforms you can use Skype on. Your phone, tablet, game console, smart Tv. I think another Pro is how easy it is to sign up, links to social media and email.

The background noises pick up easily.. There should be more language options for people who rather speak in native language. They can probably enhance sound quality as well.

Skype for business gives easy access to go into larger conference calls instead of having to deal with most conference call lines. this process makes it much easier to simply go in and out of a call without hassling of having to dial multiple pins.

Cons

I am unsure if maybe I just haven't been able to figure it out, but with normal skype I remember having access to use fingerprint on my phone to log in. Would be nice to be able to have this feature on skype for business!

I use this in our organization. Most people have the soft phone (w/ headsets) it makes it easy to call between these callers as you can simply just click on their phone number or use the Phone icon to call them... if they don't have a headset to receive the calls, the connection fails... its just a down fall of our company is guess. but the video/audio quality is great.

Cons

like my above comment above, i click the phone icon assuming the person i am calling has a head set, so i don't have to call a physical phone... i wish the software was smart enough to determine that they have one or not, causing the phone button to be greyed out.. it would be nice to have that feature .

Skype for business allows for constant communication, collaboration, access, and management oversight while working virtually, or in a remote environment. Skype allows for video conferencing, standard (text-based) messaging in the style of AIM, and conference calling. It allows you to have group video chats as well. Productivity has increased across the board since we implemented Skype for business. Morale has increased as we were able to allow for a virtual work from home policy.

Cons

One of the features of Skype for Business is that it shows when a staff member is idle or unavailable automatically if they have not typed for a while. I am not sure if this setting can be changed, but it like it was infringing on privacy a bit, in unnecessary ways. For example, if staff were getting their work done do we really need to know how long it has been since they moved their mouse or typed on the computer. This is the only thing I may tweak ... this setting 'out-of-the-box' should default to 'OFF'.

I have had nothing but good experiences with Skype and my colleagues have all had great experiences as well.

Pros

The program is super easy to use! I love how you can connect a meeting invite to a gmail calendar. It makes it easier to remember meetings. The clarity of what is shown on the screen is amazing and there is never a lag.

Cons

I don't personally care for the way the chat box is set up just for the fact that if someone is presenting on screen but opens the chat box, anyone online can see what you are writing.

I have been using Skype for my videocalls since I can remember. It is very user-friendly and it is free. With Skype Business, everything is the same except for a few features that make Skype Business perfect for any work-related videocalls. Messaging is applicable in Skype as well which eases communication. Phone calls are also applicable for a reasonable price rate. The interface of the software is very pleasing to the eyes and is simple. Groups for group calls are highly customizable as well.

I have found no disadvantages in using the software so far and I am hoping that I won’t find any in the near future
