### High quality audio capture

Audacity is a very good app especially for companies like ours where we deal with a lot of audio editing, once it is properly configured and understood how it works it captures high quality audio directly from the built in audio channel, thus eliminates static or background noise often generated by other apps that records from external speakers

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

It is one of the best audio capture app as it able to use direct channel audio capturing, the sound is then very clear and without static. Once a sound is captured it can be saved in any of the more popular audio formats. It is a free app and also has a fairly good support community forum where you can get help.

#### Cons

It also requires the integration of other apps such as Soundflower for direct audio capturing therefore makes it a bit complicated to setup and to understand especially for beginners. Audacity also has to be configured properly to capture the sound from Soundflower. Also the user interface is a bit outdated, more like old school style, also does not have too many functionality. Most people only use it for direct audio capture and not much else

Audacity has been extremely useful in several projects, including the making of short films, YouTube videos, voice overs for various applications, etc. It can be used by different people with varying levels of expertise and can solve many simple problems in audio manipulation with ease.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The product is easy to use and lean in terms of disk space. At the same time, its features are quite adequate for most audio applications. Some of its features, such as the noise removal tool, are truly revolutionary and greatly enhance audio for various projects.

#### Cons

Laying of multiple tracks is a bit difficult. It will help if the software provides drag and drop features in moving individual tracks.

#### Reasons for switching to Audacity

Audacity is considerably cheaper than Sound Forge and provides much better features in noise reduction, addition of flanging, changing of pitch without affecting speed of the audio clip, etc. Various add-ins available from those associated with the project as well as independent operators makes the software very versatile and robust.

I first tried Audacity way back in the early 00's and, while appreciating its feature set, never found it a compelling choice compared to Sound Forge or Wavelab. Mind you, it is totally free and will do the job for most amateur editors.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Audacity is extremely feature-rich for a free audio editor. This has made it immensely popular with beginners and podcasters looking for a free solution to get started. Audacity is a great place to start to learn audio editing.

#### Cons

Audacity suffers from one of the ugliest graphical user interfaces out there. Contrast is poor, the blue-on-grey aesthetic is exhausting, and the icons are straight out of a clipart site from 1998. Performance can be spotty on some Macs.

#### Reasons for choosing Audacity

Audacity is free, and if money were a concern, I'd purchase it. Otherwise, stick with Adobe Audition, Steinberg Wavelab, or Sound Forge.

Audacity does offer a super lightweight tool to manage short pieces of audio. It does import sounds hassle-free, provides a good waves diagram system to check pieces of sounds and handle music samples effortlessly.

#### Cons

I don't find particular cons about this free and easy to use software. It might be a little more capable in terms of the features, but it does provide a solution for simple audio tasks, and it does deliver.

#### Reasons for choosing Audacity

Audacity does provide an easy interface for simple audio tasks, it is free, easy to use, and provide good results for the purposes it has been made.

The software is rock solid and once you know how to import and modify the content you can do power editing and creation. this software allowed me to capture decades old audio from outdated formats and bring it into the digital world!

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Audacity works across all the media types that I needed. With Audacity I was able to reconstruct audio recordings based on multiple takes that I had on old cassettes for a music project. The ability to edit with extreme precision to capture outtakes and re-assemble them into a fluid final cut was amazing.

#### Cons

The UI isn't as pretty as other solutions and it take time with the manual to understand how to use the software. Not a show stopper, but given how much this software can do, it was worth the extra effort to understand the basics.

#### Reasons for switching to Audacity

Needed a more complex solution for the level of editing and creation I needed.

In my experience of around 10+ years of using this software, there's plenty of tools, features and compatibility. It is cross-platform, which means you'll be able to use it on Windows and Linux, for example, and it's Free software!Audacity is great for whoever is beginning their journey in Audio Editing, and it's highly capable for other kind of users as well.Overall I highly recommend this software.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The compatibility with the different importing and exporting formats. The ease of use, it is simply incredibly easy to begin using and extremely intuitive for professional users. The features, things like being able to view and customize Spectral Views along with viewing the regular Waveform at the same time.Plenty of filters and the ability of importing your own VSTs, LADSPA and LV2 ones.Multi-Track support.

#### Cons

Importing MIDI is possible but using .mid files is very limited. Perhaps a little customization or a set of features to overlay midi data on top of a waveform for transcription might be useful, although it's not the program's main task.ASIO Support would be nice to have, currently the audio devices are tied to the system. Using input equipment in latency-bound scenarios can be tough for direct monitoring through the software on Windows. On Linux it may be possible to direct monitor, provided that you activate the option and set the proper buffersize.Even more advanced editing features would be welcome, although not strictly necessary. For professional use, to my knowledge there is no surround support. But considering this software is aimed at simple usage, it still provides a lot of features.

### Audacity works well for me.

At first, I was having trouble with another software when it came to converting the mix to an MP3 file. I downloaded the Audacity program and made the MP3 file in a few minutes. While, I was there, I saw other things it could be used for. In particular, the voiceovers. I also found it very helpful when collaborating with other artists.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Many times, software has a learning curve. (How long it takes to be proficient in what you bought the software for) I found Audacity to be quite easy to learn. The curve, for me was abbreviated.

#### Cons

I don't have a Con for this. Frankly, for the price, I didn't have a high bar set for it. But Audacity far exceeded my expectations.

#### Reasons for choosing Audacity

I still have and use Cubase. However, when it comes to rapid turn-around to an MP3 format, it is easier for me to transfer the file from Cubase to Audacity for that purpose. When collaborating with other musicians, they may not have Cubase, Samplitude or Cakewalk. They probably will not purchase the program you use, just so they can collaborate with you. With Audacity, the program is free to download. Easy to learn and then all the sudden, everyone in the collaboration is on the same page.

#### Reasons for switching to Audacity

I found it cumbersome to convert my recordings to other formats in Cakewalk.

### Listen, You Have Some Audacity (provided you get Audacity)

Free apps aren’t always the most user-friendly (just look at all the free graphics programs and compare them to Photoshop for an example), but if they can still work as well as, if not surpass, the premium apps within the same category, then why not use them? For sound design, Audacity is that free app with the irritating UI that monopolizes this space, and if you’re interested in making and improving your own sound files, then you’ll want Audacity in your toolbox. With the ability to establish sound layers, adjust audio frequencies, and create samples, as well as to export the final result into most of the available sound profiles (.WAV, .MP3, .OGG, etc.), Audacity makes sense for any sound designer, musician, game designer, video creator, or anyone in media to have at the ready. And with the ability to label all exported sounds with a profile label (including “artist,” “track,” “album,” etc.), it almost begs the question, “Why pay for an audio production app?” Unless your paid app gives you the ability to turn your voice into a robotic chipmunk, then I don’t know if there’s a good answer for this.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Besides being free, Audacity comes with so many bells, whistles, and buttons that any competent sound designer will feel right at home. Because it’s open sourced (I think), it’s also adaptable with plugins, which you may want provided you can find some good ones online. And, of course, you can adjust layers and sound profiles, as well as export to your preferred format (provided you have the right codecs for such a thing—Audacity doesn’t come with those). It’s quite versatile.

#### Cons

If you’re a newbie, then you’ll probably feel lost without going through some online tutorials. Likewise, if you’re not a sound designer by trade, you may not appreciate the power that Audacity brings to the table. (I’m not a sound designer, so I know I’m in over my head at times.) The user-interface can also complicate a simple process like joining two audio clips together. But, again, it’s free, so who’s complaining?

Audacity includes countless fundamental sound effects where you could also add various plugins. Preset EQ bends, are a major take away, with an ongoing sneak peak in the effects and features. There is an incredible Bass and High pitch changes as well as high-and low-pass channels. A basic compressor, limiter, phaser, reverb, wahwah and tremolo impacts likewise show up among the choices. Switching sound or shortening quietness takes simply a quite adjustment. There are some features that highlight you to include voiceovers a webcast or radio track. Maybe the best part is that Audacity upholds processes that utilizes a favorable condition when it comes to adjusting the project rate . For instance, you can adjust a progression of audio effects or sounds at the same time without re using similar features again and again.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Audacity allows you to keep in either 16-digit or 24-bit sound. One of the most desirable characteristics that it can flawlessly change over and consolidate any sounds you haul in, paying little mind to test rate and organizations. Concerning altering, we can recorder, copy, or erase sound, orchestrate various sound effects on a similar track, and alter directly down to a sample level. The featuring functions permits you to add custom with fade in and fade out options also.

#### Cons

To be honest I don`t have anything that i don`t like about Audacity as it has always been my first choice for a pre production of my music and arranging the segments or stems for a fantastic collaboration or pre designed output.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

Most, of course is the price - free. I appreciate that there's a huge amount of community support. You can master the program by watching YouTube videos.

#### Cons

I personally don't care for the fact you have to select your clip first before you can move it. Select the whole length of the clip you're moving. More drag and drop would be nice.

#### Reasons for choosing Audacity

Frankly because it was free and actively improved by the Audacity team. I like Adobe Audition a lot and it would be my preference if it was free.

It is a powerful and versatile software that offers a wide range of tools and features for working with audio. It has been very useful for me, whether I am looking to analyze or restore audio recordings, and has many useful features that have helped me get the job done.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I have found the Spectrogram view in Audacity to be a very useful feature for analyzing audio. It provides a visual representation of the frequency content of an audio signal over time, which can be very helpful for identifying and analyzing specific frequencies or tonal characteristics within a recording. Additionally, the Frequency Analysis tool has been very useful for analyzing the frequency content of a specific section of an audio signal. It generates a graph that shows the amplitude of each frequency present in the signal, which I often use for identifying and isolating specific frequencies or tonal characteristics, and for comparing the frequency content of different sections of a recording.

#### Cons

I have experienced some drawbacks when using the software. The Spectrogram view can be difficult to interpret and may not always provide a clear or intuitive representation of the audio. Took me some while to get used to it. The Frequency Analysis tool does not provide as much detail or resolution as I would need it to. Additionally, the Equalization tool can be difficult to use effectively without a good understanding of how different frequencies affect the overall sound of a recording.

#### Reasons for switching to Audacity

Inexpensive and with a lot of features

#### Ratings breakdown

- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

First off: it was free. Second: super easy to use. I had no idea how to mix music and record above the files, but it took me tno time at all to learn and figure out the software. I've tried other softwares that were way too complex for me. This is so great for people wanting to get started but not sure how to mix audios.

#### Cons

There's been a couple of bugs. I have to consistently go back to Edit and Preferences and record new track. Otherwise it automatically adds to the end of my music instead of where I need it on the file. Then I have to go back to the settings to turn it off again. This didn't happen on the last one, just since this last update, so must be a bug. Just a small inconvenience but not stopping me from using the product

I started using it 3 years ago, and I was very impressed with it in dealing with the audio files that I work on and extracting quality in terms of beauty and high quality.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The nice thing about the program, which I like a lot, is that it's free, has powerful extras like paid software, and works on Windows, Linux, and Mac. You can make an audio recording directly through the program itself, and this saves time and effort It supports a lot of sound effects that you can use for free, namely removing noise and distortion from audio, adding FFT technology to audio technology, increasing and improving its quality, and adding echo effects. Supports keyboard shortcuts to speed up work and save your time, and it is very suitable for beginners because it processes the audio at a high speed, so you will not consume long time in editing the audio while providing the highest possible sound quality.

#### Cons

I wish that colors would be added to the tracks that were added, so that what type of tracks used for the user would be distinguished

Absolutely stellar. This software has become one of the crucial must-haves to the videos I create, and the process of doing so is engaging and fun, rather than stressful. It has expended my creative outlet in ways I did not expect and continues to do so. Bravo!!!

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I wouldn't even know where to begin. I am having so much fun creating musical and vocal clips with Audacity. As a canvas artist who has no background in audio mixing, this software makes the process fool-proof and exciting. I often do time-lapse videos of my art, and mixing both musical scores as well as varied monologues to add to them has not only been a lot easier than I expected, but has also opened doors to other creative ventures. The ease of use would have to be the number one perk of this software.

#### Cons

I found only one issue that I can't really even call a con, which is the way the competed projects are filed. I just had to look in my Audacity file first and not the standard downloads file. Again, I am a novice so this may have been something I did!

This is a must have for freelancers. With everything going on right now, everyone is trying to save money and this program works well and adds value to my recordings. I use it personally and love that it is always improving. Occasionally I hit snags but that's common and is to be expected with open software. I have no complaints with this software and will continue to use it.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I love that it's easy to use. The best part for me is that you can download additional features and Plug-ins or even create your own if you know some coding. They make it easy to install Plug-ins and has built in support to help users out. I record live audio in different sessions. It doesn't limit how many projects I can work at a time like some other programs. Very flexible & allows me to use a bunch of different file format like WAV, AIFF, and MP3. The mixing tool is simple so I can easily mix tracks myself and bounce them out to cds or store for use in media players, or for uploading online. And I forgot to mention that it is 100% FREE!

#### Cons

It's an open software, which has some cons. Users make changes and adjustments which can impact the software negatively, and from time to time, you may have to download the latest version of the software for optimization. Since the update is not automatic like other programs, it can be time consuming. It didn't work well on my HP laptop, so I had to put the program on my computer which has faster programming and it seems to fix the issue.

#### Reasons for switching to Audacity

Lack of flexibility

I find it great for its value. It covers the basics and even some details such as the noise reduction or echoes playing that I wasn't expecting. I like all the options for editing and creating compositions. It works without crashing my system and can render everything in no time. I create radio programs with it and the quality is amazing.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

It has all the basics in a single place, has a great capacity and I can play with all its properties without having to sacrifice a thing. The organization is neat and without many distractors around. I can edit instruments, voices and make it sound as if everyone was in the same place creating incredible compositions for radio programs

#### Cons

It takes time to get used to all the basics and the help section isn't really useful when it comes to understanding what each thing does. Once you've passed this barrier you enjoy it
