Amazing Audio Editing Functionality all for $$Free$$

I use this for quick edits. Or format conversions where you have no need for multitrack functions. One file edit/fix/convert and move on.

    Pros:
FREE!!!! You can't loose. Having said that...the features are intense and robust. The versatility is insane.
    Cons:
No VST. Which isn't a complete disappointment. If you are running a hi end recording software you really have no need for this App. But the app is great for those quick edits or conversion where you don't want to open your larger multitrack recording software.

    Reasons for choosing WavePad

PRICE. As well as the above mentioned file format converstions

    Reasons for switching to WavePad

This App is free so I gave it a chance as I had nothing to loose. I still see myself using Sound Forge. The real strength of WavePad will be the quick file format conversions. I work with a number of clients and everyone seems to want a different format.

    Cons:
Noise reduction is not that good even in the paid version.

    NCH WavePad sound editor

Overall very happy particularly the one time life time payment. I've been using it for decades, still use today and use it for sounds or music that you can download from the library or sounds or music that I've created or downloaded myself.

    Pros:
The best think I like is that I can download a video and upload it into WavePad, you can then edit the sound only and save it as an MP3. The sound can be modified easily with the array of available tools although I tend to only increase or decrease the volume level rather than compress, expand or filter out particular tones. WavePad is a great compliment to its sister package VideoPad and the two can make great videos with superb sound effects.
    Cons:
My only problem is the editing is slightly different to how VideoPad works and you can trip yourself up in the way of cutting and pasting.

    Solid and intuitive

I love this software. I've been using it for close to 20 years for various projects. It has a wide bevy of files to convert or save to, including Wav, Flac, Mp3 and M4a. The simple, yet effective visual of the sound makes cutting and splicing a breeze.

    Pros:
IMO, The best software is the kind you can open up and intuitively know what to do. I also like when I have been using software intuitively for some time and then seek out a quick training and it opens up a vast amount of bells and whistles to add to my experience. This is what WavePad has been for me. I cut and splice audio files, convert them and normalize them if I'm using several files in one project.
    Cons:
I'm not an audiophile, so when saving a new or edited sound file, the options for different Sample Rates or MgHz don't mean a lot to me. Yes, I can go elsewhere for recommendations, but having this software tell me "the recent files you've been working with are X" would be a pretty cool feature. It feels the world is moving this way.

    Pros:
Wavepad is an easy to use sound recording and editing tool. I like the auto save capability, you do need to be worried when the laptop goes off in the middle of the recording. The sample rate capability is very great, you can actually convert to even a lesser bit so that you save storage. Wavepad also has available plugins from their market and they are cheaper. As a novice in 2013 I was very happy when I realize I could easily cut one old sermon and paste in another sermon. We actually used it to mix some few songs for Chorography
    Cons:
I think the software can be improved by adding some in-app tutorials for novice

    Reasons for switching to WavePad

It was difficult to use and the sound quality was quite low

Auto noise reduction cleans the sound to an excellent degree. WavePad allows you to convert audio files between different formats. It has several audio filters, including pop removal. I can alter the voice with a high pass filter, a low pass filter, and effects.
    Cons:
Because I don't use all of the software's features, I can't comment on this. I found it tough to be very particular about where I wanted to cut at first, but I grew used to it.
