But, this is not the right options button for when you want to know where this particular project is located. - No idea where my files are, how to access this cloud (I believe you can't actually access it), and how much space you have left to upload. - The hotkeys, you cannot change hotkeys. Why? And who was the genius to program this in a way that when you transcribe, the spacebar is the pause button? The interface is also really easy to understand, so I don’t have to spend time learning how to use the program. #### Cons ATLAS.ti Web also needs code co-occurrence analysis tools. No incentive was offered Terrible, frustrating, slow, hiccup, non customizable, non field tested, fast coded (not compact) program, that sabotages your work, workflow, for exactly that basic elemental work you have to do in social qualitative research: transcribing and coding. The fundamental, hiccups, no customization is counter productive and especially sabotages your work(flow). The visualization, what makes it good for research. Maybe the automatic labels you can create and don't have to manually write (in the old days?). Nothing more. #### Cons It is the least customizable program in history. - the constant saving when you apply a code, why can't I change that? For every code I apply, I have to wait for 10 -15 seconds for the project to save. Every time! It's sabotaging my process. - The hotkeys, you cannot change hotkeys. Why? And who was the genius to program this in a way that when you transcribe, the spacebar is the pause button? When I transcribe, this very slow hiccup program, sometimes get's out of edit mode. So when you type, and push spacebar, the video recording starts to play, pauses, starts to play again, pauses. Sometimes, due to other hotkeys, the sound is muted, or you start at the beginning of the video. - Applying codes, takes a long time to process. - Constant hiccups. Slow, counter productive for research, and as a student, it really frustrates all these hiccups. It would be great to be able to select multiple files/codes/other entities at the same time. It would be great to select/combine different parts of a text as 1 quote. These are two things that may seem minor (there's more) but reduce the intuitiveness of the software. Of these, only ATLAs extended a lengthy trial to me to see how I could use ATLAs as assistive tech and to build on its future assistive tech features. I’m grateful as this enables me to have the time to prep and load research into ATLas and still have time to learn the program. #### Cons I would like to know how other people use the software to store documents without overwhelming the computer particularly since I plan to use it for multiple projects. After your first inquiry on Friday December 16th , I can see our user support team asked you to invite our technicians to your ATLAS.ti Web project the following workday on Monday, December 19th, but we didn't receive a confirmation from you until Friday, January 6th. That same day, our user support team immediately followed up with our technicians to confirm everything was received correctly, then the following workday Monday January 9th one of our senior technicians wrote you that he is working on it, and we received no further communications from you. Upon investigating (between January 9th and 12th), we saw that the huge PDF you used was "corrupt" and when it was technically translated so that it could be used in the Web version, it created errors because of the characters in your PDF. We then fixed these characters in the translated ATLAS.ti PDF and everything was resolved by Thursday, January 12th. As you can see, we were very responsive (at latest we responded the next day, but mostly during the very same day), and we fixed your problem, which occured because of the characteristics of the PDF that you uploaded, within 3 days which also is a very good time. If PDFs that have these kind of "corrupt" characters are uploaded in ATLAS.ti (or any other web-software) they create problems and this is not our fault and we do not have to solve that problem. Since we try to help every user we nevertheless have taken care of the problem and solved it. Your comments that the Web version creates errors, that the conversion to the Desktop version does not work, or that our support is too slow is just not true and millions of users have no problem with their projects in any way. Of course we know that people can get angry if they face such problems but this is not due to ATLAS.ti as described above. Features such as Sankey diagram, networks, code tree, code forest etc. makes it possible to get a whole lot of information about a data set without necessarily read through the data. It also provides information on frequency of each item which gives reader an idea of prevalence or importance (number of times such issue was referred to in the data) certain items listed in those diagram in the data set. The software also allows one to change colour of codes which resulted in a beautiful and presentable diagram. These diagrams are easy to generate and manipulate to the form in which you want it presented. Using these diagrams had added professionalism to my qualitative reports and clients found it informative, illustrative and attractive. #### Cons Talking about graphics in ATLAS.ti, what I don't really like, therefore, don't use is the bar chart because it tends to be too scattered by presenting document or document groups individually and it doesn't label the bars with the codes they represent neither is there colour kay to provide more clarification to the reader. #### Vendor response Hi Victor, thank you so much for your feedback. Analysis of data could be more extensive. #### Cons After doing an update of Atlas.ti 8 to the newest version (19 I think it was), I experienced some problems in the document view. About 80% of the quotations that I had made and the codes that were connected to these just disappeared directly after installation of the update. I reported the problem through the Problem Report option within Atlas, I called telephone support, I emailed the technical support team and, upon their request, I send them a Project Bundle to look into. Over the last two weeks, I have been calling 5 or 6 times to telephone support and sent multiple emails. The only response I got from telephone support (very friendly, although not able to help) was that they would pass on my request/complaints, as they couldn't do any more. I got two emails back from the technical support team in the first few days: one asking to report the problem within Atlas (which I already did and then did a second time) and to send a project bundle, the second email made apologies for waiting, confirmed receiving my project bundle and problem report and promised to get back within "a few days". That was 10 days ago. I have been waiting for two weeks now, even as it seems that this is not a very hard problem to solve (the quotations and codes are still there, no data seems to be lost), as it is just a problem in the document view. Moreover, the problem occurred directly after updating to a new version of Atlas, so literally nothing was changed in my own setting.
