About Knowi

Knowi is a business intelligence platform that includes dashboards and scorecards, data warehousing, data analytics and reports and online analytical processing. The system is suitable for company sizes ranging from small businesses to large enterprises and can be deployed on-premise or hosted in the cloud.

Blended datasets can be created by joining data from NoSQL, SQL, REST-API, RDBMS and file based sources. Algorithms can be inserted into the analytics workflow to automatically trigger notifications or actions. The drag-and-drop query interface generates your query in the data source native QL. Edits can be made as needed.

The system is available to organizations in the following industries: advertising, banking & financial services, consulting, distribution, engineering, insurance, media & communications, retail, telecommunications and more.

An aspiring BI platform full of promise

Overall, Knowi has brought us value. They've provided us a toolkit to rapidly build relatively sophisticated reporting. We've embedded Knowi within our platform, but some work is still required by Knowi for us to sleep soundly at night.

Pros:

Short time to value. Software is relatively intuitive and flexible for base cases. Shines when dealing with NoSQL databases. The Knowi team is very approachable, knowledgable and professional.

Cons:

The documentation needs to be overhauled (in-progress), the embedding system needs to be redesigned (cookies + repo management), some UX flows need to be fixed (like the confusing Dashboard > Widget delete which has you think you're deleting an instance of a widget based on the URL and context | in Knowi's defense, they put a popup warning but it's still not clear enough).

Data in one place

The product is useful and offset the need to hire data engineers due to the large collection of integrations. The dashboards were easy to set up and there is a good selection of visualizations to choose from. I like how this product is focused on functionality and has a lot of features that a lot of other products in the market do not have. There is close to no barrier for learning this tool and I like how I can use generic sql syntax (other platforms like Looker and Qlik require learning different syntax).

Pros:

I like how we are able to join data across data sources. It was really easy to manage our data sets and clean/model it in a way that is usable and accessible to end user. The product is not convoluted as other BI tools in the market and the design is intuitive.

Cons:

It was a learning curve for us to figure out runtime query parameters and embedding dashboards. The Knowi support team was responsive and we were able to figure it out in no time. It is a bit annoying to wait for each query to run in order to retrieve the fields to join across data sources however the Knowi team seems to be proactively releasing features and making the product easier to use.

Reasons for choosing Knowi

We have a rubric which was used when rating each individual product and Knowi had the highest score in terms of self-serve capability, ease of use, embedding, integrations, and pricing.

Reasons for switching to Knowi

Chartio was sunsetting. Also users were not content with the limited functionality of Chartio.

Pros:

easy to connect our datasources and the ability to blend different types of datasources together in a single query. Creating custom visualizations and using the knowi javascript sdk.

Cons:

more widget filtering options, maybe the ability to save prebuilt/favorites filters that could be shareable.

Pros:

I really like Knowi's ability to access datasets and build dashboards without any coding experience. I also like how you're able to send reports and embed charts in HTML so clients dont have to log into anything to see what you built.

Cons:

Nothing I can think of, good product and good team to work with.
