Self hosted is always good. A good option if you dont want to use google analytics (especially in EU-Countries good for data-security).

After using Matomo for over 3 years, there simply is nothing to dislike about it. Any dislike that arises would be purely because of bad hosting or bad configuration.

Not all information is transmitted by search engines, which is definetly there fault.

The platform has been around a long time (formerly Piwik) and has proven to be very reliable. Using the API to create custom reports is also easy and super useful.
