Overall, n8n.io has been a reliable tool for building automations across the web. Workflows are easy to manage and modify, which is great for adapting to changing project requirements. It is especially useful for integrating other tools like Apify to create scalable automations for research and data-driven tasks.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The best thing about n8n.io is its incredible flexibility for building custom automations. You can connect different apps, services and data sources in workflows that are easy to design visually. It is perfect for automating repetitive web scraping tasks and data management, especially when combining it with tools like Apify.

#### Cons

Some nodes can be tricky to configure for more advanced functions, and occasionally updates change the way workflows run so older automations need adjusting. There is a learning curve if you want to use scripting or advanced branches.

Really good pieces of software, it can integrate itself with a lot of other tools and you can create amazing and useful workflows

#### Reasons for switching to n8n.io

N8N is much cheaper than zapier, and you can selfhost it

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

What has fascinated me the most is its node-based approach and its ability to connect pretty much anything so I can easily create custom workflows and automate tasks with the wide variety of nodes available.

#### Cons

I have to say that one of my least favorite things is that sometimes the documentation can be a bit sparse or confusing. Although the creators make an effort to provide information and examples, I sometimes find myself looking for more details on particular nodes or functionality.

### Great value for the money (you need a bit of technical expertise tho)

I have found Zapier and N8N to be very useful tools. I use both platforms depending on the complexity of the workflow. When dealing with tasks that require multiple steps, I prefer to use N8N. For simpler tasks, I opt for Zapier. Eventually, I plan to migrate all my workflows to N8N when I have more time.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

N8N's pricing structure is more appealing than Zapier's. Unlike Zapier, where you are charged for every action or step your zap executes, N8N offers "workflows" that can include unlimited steps (as far as I know). In N8N, you are charged based on the number of workflows executed.

#### Cons

There are some complexities in performing tasks like creating a contact in Hubspot or writing a column in Sheets. When I first had to set them up, I had to search for several tutorials on YouTube because setting up parameters can be tricky, especially when working with webhooks and JSON parsed files. It would be helpful to have a more user-friendly version of N8N, similar to Zapier, where the user can choose which one to use based on their available time and expertise.

#### Reasons for switching to n8n.io

Basically, because of pricing. I paid 16$ monthly for 5000 workflow executions, while in Zapier, I have to pay 30$ per 750 tasks.

### The most flexible software for no-code or low-code automation, if you've got the time or experience

n8n has been an overall good experience and has allowed me to create just the workflows I want that update as frequently as I want. It does require more time to set up, especially if you are building your own, but that can pay off in flexibility in the future.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I like how many different ways there are to utilize n8n across devices. There is the paid cloud version, that you can depend on to just work, or you can build your own as it is open source software. I'm not a professional programmer, but I've been able to use a little code to customize workflows that weren't possible with a locked-down service like Zapier.

#### Cons

I'm saddened that the desktop version of n8n is being sunset, as that is what got me started on the software and can be really powerful for a single user. The features of some integrations aren't as full as competitors like Make.com. If you have some time or API background, you can create a custom node to get around most limitations.

#### Reasons for switching to n8n.io

With Make.com, I like the same visual display of nodes for different actions, but the cost of operations got too high. Each operation is counted instead of the whole workflow, so things could get expensive if you needed to check a service frequently. n8n, if you build your own, offers more flexibility, so you're just paying for CPU or RAM time.

My overall experience with n8n.io has been very positive. As a product management consultant, I use tools like n8n to reduce manual work, prototype AI-native workflows, and create more repeatable product operations processes. n8n gives me the flexibility to connect different tools, APIs, webhooks, and data sources in a way that is more powerful than basic automation platforms. What stands out most is that n8n feels built for users who need control over how workflows actually operate. It is not just a simple trigger-and-action tool; it can support more advanced logic, branching, data transformation, and integrations. That makes it especially useful for consulting work, where each client may have a different SaaS stack, different operating model, and different product execution challenges. The learning curve is real, especially if someone is not familiar with APIs or workflow logic, but once the core concepts are understood, the platform becomes very capable. Overall, n8n has been a practical and valuable tool for automating repeatable work, supporting product discovery and operations, and experimenting with AI-enabled workflows in a controlled way.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

What I like most about n8n.io is the balance it provides between flexibility, control, and practical usability. As a product management consultant, I often need tools that help me move quickly without creating unnecessary operational overhead. My work involves helping SaaS teams modernize complex products, improve product operations, evaluate AI-native workflows, and bring more structure to roadmap and execution processes. n8n is valuable because it can support those kinds of workflows without requiring me to build custom software from the ground up. I especially like that n8n is not limited to simple app-to-app automations. It gives me a visual way to connect different systems, APIs, webhooks, data transformations, and AI-related steps within a single workflow. That makes it useful for more advanced scenarios, such as collecting customer feedback from multiple sources, routing information into the right tools, summarizing inputs with AI, triggering follow-up actions, or creating lightweight internal processes for product discovery and prioritization. The visual workflow builder is also helpful because it makes the logic of an automation easier to understand and revisit later. I need workflows that I can maintain myself, adapt for different client situations, and troubleshoot when something changes. n8n gives me enough transparency to see how each step connects, where data is moving, and where problems may occur. Another major benefit is that n8n can grow with the complexity of the work. I can start with a relatively simple automation and then add branching logic, custom API calls, conditional steps, or AI components as the use case becomes more sophisticated. That flexibility is important because every client’s tool stack and operating model is a little different. Overall, n8n helps me prototype faster, reduce repetitive manual work, and create more scalable product operations workflows without losing control over the details.

#### Cons

What I like least about n8n.io is that the learning curve can be noticeable, especially if you are not already comfortable working with APIs, webhooks, data structures, conditional logic, and workflow debugging. The platform is very flexible, which is one of its biggest strengths, but that flexibility also means there are more decisions to make when designing a workflow. You need to think through how data moves between steps, how errors should be handled, what happens when an API response changes, and how to maintain workflows over time. For very simple automations, n8n can sometimes feel more powerful than necessary. If someone only needs a basic “when this happens, do that” workflow, a more guided tool may feel faster to set up. n8n is better suited for users who are willing to spend time understanding the logic behind their automations. As a product management consultant, I also have to be mindful that any automation I build is easy for me to revisit and manage later. n8n gives me a lot of control, but that also means I need to document workflows, test them carefully, and avoid making them overly complex. It is a strong platform, but it rewards a more technical and disciplined approach than some lighter-weight automation tools.

### Easy to automate, yet so hard to learn

Whenever I needed to automate something, I resulted in what I planned more or less. The building process was rarely satisfying, but the result was usually good - Probably coders struggle with similar feelings in their work. Some nodes are easy and are a must, others are hard. Some credentials/APIs are connected in 10 seconds, others scare me to death.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

n8n is rich in nodes, it is visually minimalistic, but understandable in terms of how your workflow operates. The amount of integrations is huge, and you can pull data, extract important fields, direct them further for future transformations, and arrange the output you desire.

#### Cons

It's complicated. I still need YouTube for almpst everything I plan to build with n8n. Some nodes are just unintellegible to me after months of experience (e.g. I never succeded to make a Loop node work the way I excpeted), so I mostly build clumsy linear workflows...That still work after all! So, if your self-esteem doesn't suffer from being technically imperfect, you can still build functional flows via guides and GPT suggestions+fixes.

Overall, my experience with n8n has been very positive. It has become a central piece of my automation stack, allowing me to build workflows that would be hard or very time‑consuming to implement with more rigid platforms. Once you get used to its way of thinking, n8n gives you a lot of creative freedom to design exactly the processes you need, instead of forcing you into strict templates or limited triggers and actions.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

What I like most about n8n is its flexibility. You can start with simple automations using the visual editor and then go as deep as you want with code, custom logic, and API integrations when needed. It works well both for quick one-off workflows and for more complex, multi-step processes that connect many different tools and services.

#### Cons

The main downside for me is that some major version updates have introduced radical changes to the product. While I understand the need to evolve, these shifts sometimes required re-learning parts of the tool or adjusting existing workflows more than expected. It would be great to have more stability or smoother transitions between big releases.

#### Reasons for switching to n8n.io

I was initially drawn in by the price, but I stayed because of the flexibility

n8n is the backbone of my entire affiliate content site at https://hormoneharmonyhq.health/ I run 31 automated agents on it — content generation, email sequences, social media, API health monitoring, security checks. I'm one person doing the work of a team because n8n makes it possible. The cloud version at $20/month is genuinely the best-value tool in my stack.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

The HTTP Request node handles every API I've thrown at it across hormoneharmonyhq.health. Sub-workflows let me build modular systems where agents call other agents. Code nodes give me real JavaScript when I need it. Execution logs show every node's input and output, which makes debugging a 35-node pipeline actually possible. The webhook system is solid. And the AI Agent node makes wiring Claude into your business logic trivial.

#### Cons

No Pinterest integration at all. I had to build a separate Make.com scenario just to post pins because n8n has nothing for Pinterest. Add a Pinterest node with pins:write and boards:write and I'd delete Make tomorrow. Also the strict-mode JS executor in code nodes can be unforgiving — small syntax issues that work in regular JS will throw errors.

As of right now, it's the best tool available for free and the only one that allows you to create AI automations that can do anything without a lot of coding experience.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

It's fantastic because you can create AI automations without having a lot of coding experience, and you can use it for free, self-hosted

#### Cons

Lately, we’ve noticed that the workflows tend to crash during peak traffic periods when the system is under heavy load. While this is currently causing some bottlenecks, I have full confidence in the engineering team's ability to dive into the logs, identify the root cause, and implement a permanent fix to improve our scalability.

Indispensable for AI stack; scales from solo work to full GTM deployments; couldn't run projects as efficiently without it.

Learning curve for advanced workflows can be steep initially, but it's absolutely worth the investment of time to master. Learning curve for advanced workflows, but worth it.

#### Reasons for choosing n8n.io

Personal preferences, I think it's more intuitive and you can really get granular with n8n

### Flexible automation tool, but takes time to learn

I like the idea that some of my repetitive work can be automated, so I try to spend 1–2 hours a week learning n8n and testing workflows. I am still early in the process, and it is not moving as fast as I hoped, but I can see why the tool is valuable. The self-hosted option is especially interesting to me because it gives more control, but it also means I need time to understand the setup and logic properly.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

I like that n8n can be self-hosted. I am still learning it, but it already feels useful for connecting tools and building workflows without depending only on closed SaaS automation platforms.

#### Cons

I am not a technical user, so n8n takes time for me to understand. Connecting a Google Sheet took me about an hour. I expected it to take 5–10 minutes, like most simple Google integrations, but I missed some part of the logic and could not get the connection to work. We also connected ChatGPT to n8n, but I expected that setup to remove more of the technical work, and it did not work as I hoped.

Very easy and cheap to setup, plus you only have to pay for the API usage. Plus is very flexible and has the ability to self-host.

N8n is much cheaper, plus has self-hosting and more data control.
