About NodeXL

Network analysis is a powerful way to understand the webs of connections that make up the modern world. Social Network Analysis (SNA) is a set of mathematical tools to assemble and analyze webs of connections. But until recently, only a data scientist with Python or R software development skills could easily collect, analyze, visualize and report on a network. NodeXL makes SNA as easy as making a pie chart. The Internet makes creating webs of connections easy but difficult to collect and analyze. Every click, tap, and swipe creates information about connections between people, pages, and organizations. Previously, with advanced skills, these connections could be collected and analyzed. Now, just a few clicks are needed to assemble social media data into a network ...

Visualizations that can't be beat

I have used NodeXL for a number of years for the analysis of a variety of topics as it offers a simple and intuitive picture of network dynamics along with basic descriptive network statistics.

PROS

The ease with which one can collect Twitter data, but that the software can be used to analyze and visualize any other network data. The graphs are great, particularly with the pro version.

CONS

Runs slowly and at times crashes - though the speed issue is primarily due to Twitter constraints. No crash issues on my desktop, where I have 32 GB of RAM. Some of my students are not so fortunate.
