### About vSphere

vSphere is a server virtualization solution, which enables businesses to run, manage, connect and secure applications in a unified operating environment. The system automatically restarts VMs in case of hardware failures and sends alerts about compliance issues to supervisors.

Key features of vSphere include business continuity, image management, content library and virtual machine encryption. Enterprises can protect their hybrid cloud infrastructure from malware or ransomware and utilize virtual machines, Kubernetes and containers to improve the computing environment for applications. Additionally, teams can centralize provisioning, monitoring and administration processes using cluster-level network aggregation capabilities.

vSphere maintains software, patching and firmware updates for virtual machines. Pricing is available on request and support is extended via chat, email, phone, documentation, FAQs and other online measures.

## vSphere Pros and Cons

We analyzed 433 verified reviews for vSphere to find out what actual users really think.

Select to learn more

Centralized Virtual Infrastructure Control

vSphere streamlines virtualization by letting you manage large numbers of virtual machines from a single interface. It offers high performance, scalability, and reliability, making it easy to consolidate servers, optimize hardware use, and maintain both cloud and on-premises environments efficiently.

Comprehensive Virtualization Feature Set

vSphere offers a wide array of features for virtual machine management, including high availability, vMotion, DRS, and robust monitoring tools. Its flexibility and integration capabilities make it suitable for complex enterprise environments, helping administrators optimize resources and maintain uptime.

Efficient Server Monitoring Tools

Managing servers with vSphere is straightforward, thanks to its clear dashboard and intuitive controls. You can quickly deploy, monitor, troubleshoot, and restore servers, minimizing downtime and effort. Features like templating and real-time diagnostics help keep your server environment running smoothly.

Complex And Expensive Licensing Structure

Licensing for vSphere is frequently described as confusing and costly. Users struggle with understanding the different models, renewing licenses, and managing hardware requirements. The move to subscription-based licensing and high fees can be a barrier for many organizations.

High Cost For Full Functionality

vSphere's pricing is a major concern for many users, especially smaller businesses. The software, add-ons, and support come at a steep cost, with tiered packages making it expensive to access all features. Many find it difficult to justify the investment compared to competitors.

Slow And Unreliable Web Interface

The web client for vSphere is often criticized for being sluggish, buggy, and reliant on outdated technologies like Flash. Users report slow load times, missing features, frequent crashes, and complex navigation, making management tasks more difficult than with previous desktop clients.

The new release of VMware VCF version 9.x is a complete package all wrapped up to deliver virtually any technical requirement a business could need.

Cons:

The patching of the vCentre and ESXi servers unfortunately still need a reboot to complete and this can be a problem for businesses gaining downtime and losing access / service during the reboot and restart.

Reasons for choosing vSphere

As this time we needed a solid support wrapper as many of our production services were being migrated to virtual machines using vSphere products.

VMware VSphere: A Virtualization Server for Private Clouds

4

It was great working with VSphere to simplify the management and deployment of clients. By employing it all the VM creation, deployment, and processing is done on the server side and all the client is responsible of is providing the VM display more or less.

Customer support

4

Functionality

Pros:

I deployed VSphere in my networking class to provide the students with managed VMs containing common software packages and tools. VSphere was up to the challenge using a commodity Dell Intel server with 64 GB RAM. It provided virtualization support to 22 VSphere clients. The clients merely provided the VM display and all the processing is done on the server side. The control center for managing the virtual machines is extremely simple to use and the migration (using VMware VMotion) is also seamless. The next step for us is to start testing network virtualization using the VMware NSX server.

Cons:

The client software hangs and lags unexpectedly. As a developer, I sense that the VSphere client could be better enhanced in terms of performance as well as in the look and feel.

Reasons for switching to vSphere

Centralization of the virtualization operations.
