Certify is a web-based expense management solution recommended to companies in any industry. The solution can be used to track, approve, and reimburse expenses; book travel; and analyze spend.

With Certify Mobile, users can capture receipts using the camera on their iPhone, Blackberry, Android or Windows Phone. The offline-syncing mode enables travelers to log every expense instantly even when they are in areas with no or limited internet connectivity. A receipt parse feature will automatically extract data from receipts and an auto-fill feature automatically fills out the expense report with that data. Electronic receipts can be scanned, uploaded, faxed, or even text-messaged into the system. The system will generate expense reports on specified dates and reimbursement can be automated.

Certify integrates with accounting systems such as QuickBooks Pro and Enterprise, SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft Dynamics. The system also receives data directly from credit card platforms through a PCI-compliant connection.

Cons

Cons are pretty much everything after you sign a contract. Customer service is pitiful. No resolution, no sense of urgency, nothing, nothing, nothing. Biggest waste of time and money.

This software easily competes with the big names in expense software- It has the same functionality as Concur and Expensify but they boast their customer service exceeds all other.

Pros

Easy to use interface and dashboard. Can navigate through the app easily as a first time user. Those that are not tech savvy have no problems adopting this as a new user.

Cons

When researching Certify, the only tier that has pricing is the base tier. You have to talk to another sales person to get an idea of how much the other tiers will cost the company.

This is a good stand alone product it just doesn't really work well with my accounting program. Right now we are just using it to capture mileage reimbursement but I'm not sure that we will continue using the program because again I'm not sure it is worth it to keep it just for mileage.

Pros

What I like about this product is that it can record mileage, the customization it has available. There are plenty of resources available on their website to help educate customers on the product. The Certify Team is really helpful and always have a positive interaction.

Cons

I don't like how this product syncs with Quickbooks. There is alot of manual input which is what I was trying to avoid and why our team ultimatley ended up signing up for certify. Certain data doesn't transfer over like billable expenses to customer/job. Additionally, it doesn't recognize duplicate entries that were synced over so alot of work was duplicated. I don't like how you can't split expenses until you create a expense report. Also the auto expense feature doesn't work very well very often my expenses were recorded incorrectly and synced to my books incorrectly so it actually created more work for me to go back and try to correct the issue. Lastly, when my team submits a expense report it always flags every transaction so that all the fields are entered. I wish there was a way to turn off some of the insignificant sections like location.

It has a mobile app, which is awesome for submitting expenses while travelling. You can take care of each receipt right away, and then submit a full expense report later. I like to be able to take the image and get it in the system, and then create a formal expense report once I have the time to do so.

Cons

The artificial intelligence that pulls information from the receipts is good, but not perfect. It is also not easy to separate receipts into two separate categories--for example, pulling food expenses from a hotel bill and pulling lodging expenses from the same hotel bill requires you to upload the same file twice.

Some of the initial set up takes a little bit of time because if it is done wrong the errors will compound with time. Initial set up is key.

Pros

The software is easy to use, both for the back office and for the people out in the field. The processing of expense reports and the integration into out Quickbooks is much quicker than doing it all by hand.

Cons

We had some errors in the beginning of our use with Certify, in that the software would not allow us the ability to process credit card payments for some of our "Current Assets". I find this strange that nowadays with the use of credit cards for so much of purchasing in the world, that there would be a category of expenses that the software would not recognize. Certify was very helpful in tracking down this issue and explaining it to us.

Cons

Attaching your receipts is confusing and not clear.

Fix the attachment process. Make it clear. It is not a clear step process. It should be a 1, 2, 3 step and it is not. It is confusing when in the process do you attach. Plus, my company only covers a certain amount per month and your software picks up the WHOLE value of my receipt so I have to go back and manually change it. Horrible!

It auto populates in a few areas. It remembers my vendor and what I call my report. It appears to be easy until you have to attach a receipt.

Cons

It appears to be easy until you have to attach. That steps messes me up every month. It should be easy but the steps are not clear and I have to redo every time. Why can't you make it go.....1, 2, 3. It doesn't. No instructions on a step process that makes it easy to attach. I'm not a stupid person and it confuses me every time I do it!.

Don't waste your time. This has a long way to go until it is mature enough to be a helpful tool. I suppose if you only have a handful of expenses and they are very straightforward, then maybe it would be OK. If you have ore than 5 receipts or any sort of complicated transactions, I promise that you will spend far more time clicking your mouse on the Certify website than you would by creating an expense report manually (which I hate to do, so was initially excited about Certify - after using it, I can see that my old manual method wasn't so bad after all).

Cons

Basically everything is terrible about this web service except for the mobile app. The website is where you will really do most of the work, and it is a real mess.

As a long-time admin, it's a beautiful clean break from scanning individual taped receipts on paper. It's basically idiot-proof and what's more is that it takes expense reporting out of the hands of the admin and gives expensers the ability to upload their own receipts with a really straightforward app. The app even allows coding for departments, and notes for expense allocations.

Cons

There's nothing that I don't like about it.

We spent many weeks researching the best options for what we were looking for in an expense tracking software. We tried several trials and lastly ended with choosing Certify for the job. Talking with our sales rep, it sounded like a dream! He addressed each of our concerns and assured us everything we were looking for was within their app.

After we signed the contract, we experienced our first taste of what was to follow in how we were to be treated. We set up our first meeting to get started, and after confirming verbally, via email, and google calendar invite, our Account Manager was a no-show. No, follow up, emails, or calls to let us know either. We waited in the meeting link for 30 minutes before we reached out asking what had happened. The response we received was not of an apologetic one, but more of an “oops, I guess I forgot”. With this sort of response, we asked that an honour would be placed in that if the software was to not work for us, we could exit our contract without a penalty. Our sales rep agreed that this was a reasonable request, and confirmed we would have an exit option without penalty if their software did not work out for us.

We contacted our reps and let them know the software was not working for us. We tried, but it left us doing more work than our prior manual process. After requesting our account to be terminated, we were given penalties to be paid for exiting our contract agreement early. They would not honour any other agreements.

Pros

They were willing to work on pricing before we signed up.

Cons

Their system is outdated. The software could be good, but it seems they are not willing to update to get there.

They use a 3rd party linking system which will result in you having to manually reconnect your cards to the system weekly, or your reports will not pull in transactions correctly.

The way the users are set up, it makes no sense and has a very hard flow to things. You constantly have to ghost another user to approve expenses billed to a card that is added to your user.

They are not a customer-focused company who is concerned with their product or how their customers are treated and focused more on filling their pockets.

Certify has a great sales team, but that seems to be where the customer service ends and loads of issues begin.

Overall Despite lack of features for time saving ability I prefer Certify and it seems that I will continue using it.

My most liked feature of Certify is mobile application. It is a very handy when you need to upload receipts. It automatically extracts data from receipt photos and saves me from extra effort. It recognizes receipt data and fills required fields automatically. I enjoy this feature.

Cons

What I don’t like about Certify it is lack of some features. In the next versions of Certify Travel & Expense Management I would like to see online invoicing feature.

Cons

I don't like that if you enter a receipt manually, before the transaction hits your wallet, you could potentially create a duplicate transaction. I liked the ability to take pictures with the mobile app and enjoyed using this version compared to the desktop. Quicker and easier to submit an expense that way.

The application helps you to make a note of the bill as and when the expense is incurred, so that you can keep a track of all the expenses. The interfaces of both the desktop and mobile application are very user friendly and great to use for both the back-end and front-end employees. It quickly processes the reports at ease, due to its integration with QuickBooks. Great workflow and expense management system is offered. Incredible exporting features. They ensure very responsive customer service. Any edits made via mobile device is automatically synchronized.

Cons

Errors occur while you import the documents to your mail. Autofill columns require improvement. Credit card payments for current assets is absent. The application is not an apt one for huge businesses. Absence of more customizable reporting capabilities. At times you get confused with the huge set of options provided so a better display of information is advisable. We get confused with the labels while dealing with expense and receipt

Pros

I loved being able to snap a photo of my receipts while traveling. Certify even reads the receipts and helps to fill in the blanks for your Travel & Expense report as well. I found it overall easy to use. I had used spreadsheets and Concur to track travel and expense at previous companies and this was a big improvement.

Cons

It didn't have as many options and features as Concur offered and the feature that read the receipts to fill in the report wasn't always intuitive and didn't get the information right as often as I would have liked. Also, the overall look and feel of the software is a little outdated, in my opinion.

Pros

The 2 big pluses for me are that Certify has a rather accurate OCR technology to scan receipts and auto-fill data, more so than ExpenesPath, and it integrates with Quickbooks. The offline syncing helps to log expenses promptly when on the go even where there's no internet connectivity.

Cons

If dealing with receipts that feature expenses that fall under different categories, you need to upload the same file twice; not a big issue though.

No need to save the receipts from trip anymore as Certify app makes it easier to upload them. Alsothe web version is easy to use.

Pros

It is very easy to use with the app. We can upload the receipts on the go and it will scan and enter the record as in the receipt.

Cons

The app cannot validate tips included in the receipt. It puts a random number. Some of the options are difficult to use if you want to assign more categories to the bill.

The digital processing of T&E reports is by far more efficient than having employees submitting them on paper through snail mail.

Pros

Ease of use for employees to track and submit expenses. The ability to track their expenses on their mobile devices.

Cons

the delay/processing time for employees who have a large number of items to process in one report is a huge time eater. And, moving between items they feel is cumbersome.

Being able to track receipts digitally by taking pictures and send expense reports. The auto-fill tool is nice when it works

Cons

It would be nice to get a little more info in the confirmation email I receive after submitting (a breakdown of the receipts perhaps). Sometimes it's a little difficult to review the receipts before submitting

This software allows me to track expenses and travel information on the go and have it all stored in one place.

Pros

The biggest benefit of using this software is how easy it is compared to how we used to do it. I no longer have to save receipts or write up expense reports - Certify handles everything effectively and is easy to navigate.

Cons

I have found no downsides to using this software. It is quick and easy to use for me, and HR loves how it makes their job a lot easier by providing accountability and records for them.

Ease of use. Very easy to take a picture of the receipt, create the expense and sync to your computer. Can approve my employee expenses from the mobile app.

Cons

Honestly not any cons that I can think of. I love that I am able to enter, keep track of and submit my expenses from my phone.
