My go-to audio sequencer

Logic is the most flexible music sequencer available. It is also a mighty powerful audio editor, competing with the bigger players - ProTools and Nuendo in most areas. I prefer to use one sequencer for all my needs and Logicx is the most flexible.

PROS

LogicX is full of added extras, from its huge library of beats to its vast selection of synthesis and I haven't even started on its editing prowess.

CONS

You still have to be careful with deleting stuff because under certain settings it has destructive editing features.

Reason for choosing Logic Pro

Adaptability, flexibility and overall ease of use.

Reasons for switching to Logic Pro

I switched when I changed to Mac machines as LogicX is an Apple product

Logic review

Logic is quite an industry standard and therefore engineers and producers can come along and have at least a basic knowledge so that is a benefit. For basic tasks its perfect and you can also go in deep on your edits for more intricate work.

PROS

I have used logic since version 9 and had actually left to use another DAW as I was frustrated by all the menus you had to navigate to load plug-ins. In the latest version this issue has been addressed, making the ease of use and time taken to load a new plug-in much better. The audio editing is great as is the multi-tool. I like that logic has been improved up to a standard alongside Pro Tools and Studio One in regard to editing.

CONS

The mixing and mastering side of logic still lacks the finer details found in other DAWS. This does not matter so much with mastering for me as I would outsource this task. You can get a very good mix in logic I just find it a bit fiddly when you have so many tracks that you can't easily jump around where you want to be.

Reason for choosing Logic Pro

Logic is at a better price point and is made by Apple so works with no issues. I do prefer Studio One but it is more expensive.

Reasons for switching to Logic Pro

The midi in logic is amazing. Great timing, rarely skips when sessions are fully loaded with plug-ins.

Originally learned on Logic Pro

I used logic for years and was happy enough with it, it’s perfectly serviceable, but moving over to ableton live was a gamechanger for me.

PROS

I like the general layout and integration with MainStage, and ease of use with 3rd party VSTs. Logic is affordable and is a great 1st DAW to learn on, and is many people’s DAW of choice.

CONS

As an ableton user I miss session view when using Logic, and I don’t find the shortcuts and layout quite as intuitive.

Reviewed November 2022

Logic Pro is now my go to music software.

Ever since using Logic Pro my producing mixing and mastering have improved ten fold. I produce all my own projects with Logic and now use it to record mix and master others in my home studio. When I first started using Logic in uni I was impressed at how easy the work flow was and ever since the updates that have happened over the years, it just keeps getting better.

PROS

I love the amount of creative freedom Logic gives me especially after all the updates that have happened over the years. The interfaces of most of the plugins are easy to manoeuvre and are easy on the eye too. Sounds in the library are really high quality and is great for composing. I personally love the ease of mixing vocals and actually seeing while hearing what I am actually doing.

CONS

Could implement a more flexible EQ with dynamic EQ options and frequency isolation. I find the flex time tool is still a bit touch and go with audio clicks and crackles and some other unwanted audio artefacts.

Reasons for switching to Logic Pro

I made the switch because FL Studio for vocals for me was tricky to use with adding effects etc. Adding busses and sub mixers I found a little bit difficult as well.
