The light is the Third Light IMS

PROS

An outstanding feature that invigorates me all way is the Third Light IMS' Digital Asset Management Features where I am able to perform Asset Categorization, Asset Library, Asset Sharing , Search and filter plus Metadata Management. It really makes my work easier in the library especially when it comes to digital asset management. I am able to integrate, manage, share and search for media in a twinkle of an eye. The fact that their cost is one-time purchase and affordable, makes it cost-effective plus I don't want to forget the online support that I get endlessly upon request.

CONS

I have not seen any cons yet but its a good software for digital media management.

Third Light Keeps Us Organized

In the four years we have been using the Third Light asset management system, it has been very helpful in both keeping us organized and allowing users to view and access files needed to complete daily tasks. The ease of searching for files allows us to work more efficiently on projects of any size. We have also been very pleased with the customer service provided to us. Technical issues have been handled professionally and in a timely fashion. While we still would like to see a few additional features, Third Light has been an incredibly useful addition to our workflow.

No other product comes close to tagging management capabilities

They’ve been are easy to work with throughout the sales, installation, training, and support processes. We are in the U.S., so there is a significant time-zone difference with the UK, but we’ve been able to communicate via phone in the mornings when needed. Their email support has always been prompt and helpful, even with the time zone delay. Submit something in the afternoon and they generally have a response the next morning.

PROS

The process of uploading and tagging images is flexible and efficient. We are able to define our own tagging categories, and the bulk tagging capability is essential for us. We are able to designate separate “spaces” for images that have different access requirements, and we can grant users access to specific spaces. OKTA single sign-on works well with our on-premise installation. The overall interface is intuitive. Once you see someone do it once, you’ve become an expert (almost).

CONS

There are no big cons for us, so I can only list small things. We would like better reporting capabilities: photos uploaded/day, who is uploading, etc… On-premise installation requires someone fluent with Linux.

Reason for choosing Third Light

Products like Sharepoint were inflexible and clunky to work with. The workflow was terrible. The cheap ones (Zenphoto, Piwigo, Chevereto, etc…) were generally lacking in tagging and user security abilities that we required. The much more expensive products (Libris, Widen, Canto) all tended to be focused towards marketing and still lacked the flexible tagging requirements that we required. Chorus met all of our technical requirements and our budget.

A solid asset management platform

I don't often give all 5 stars, so I will elaborate a bit on the ratings. We currently manage just over 1 million assets (photographs) with ThirdLight IMS, and have architected the solution to eventually handle about 3 times that many images (we are in the photography business, so we only use the platform for images). It quite simply does everything we need it to do. It offers fast, responsive queries, even as we've grown. It provides a robust audit trail. We've used the API to seamlessly integrate ThirdLight with our proprietary editing software. It has provided us a simple, effective way to share content with our customers and partners. Again, it's done everything we need very well. Secondly, I have to give ThirdLight 5 stars in ease of use because its browser based. We compared the solution to 2 other competitors that offer client-side software, but in the end we found that ThirdLight had done an incredible job of building everything we needed into the browser. Just to be safe, we did purchase the file server module so that we could do some advanced editing in Photoshop, and this has worked brilliantly for us. Finally, in all of the dealings I've had with various software vendors in over 20 years in IT, I've never experienced such thorough and timely support. They answer questions usually within a day, understand when our needs are urgent, and have oftentimes not only helped with the issue at hand but offered proactive guidance on how to avoid same/similar issues in the future. We've offered up feature requests, and have been delighted to see many of them implemented in updates. The support is simply world class.

Thirdlight review

PROS

Thirdlight is very intuitive and so incredibly easy to use and if you do ever get stuck with anything the customer support is second to none. The software has changed the way our marketing team use images and has made everyones lives a lot easier. It's a revelation having all images in one place and searchable. As the university photographer I used to get lots of requests that consisted of academics looking to source images and now people can search for what they need and I'm freed up to focus on creating more content.

CONS

As there's different ways you can set up the software it'd be good to see more examples of how industries are using it. When I first set up our image library I put spaces within spaces and it made things very confusing with permissions further down the line, I've since changed the spaces within the spaces into folders.

Great tool for a communication team

The growing number of pictures, publications needing pictures and persons using them make the use of Thirdlight mandatory. In minutes a picture or an album can be offered to everyone or remove from the bank if there's a problem about model release or anything else.

Look no further than Third Light IMS for a fantastic DAM solution!

If you are searching for a complete digital asset management system, look no further than IMS. We have been using IMS enterprise version installed locally on our servers for just over 4 years and I can say with certainty that it has completely changed the way our organization works with images. Countless hours that I used to spend weekly distributing images by email and discs can now be devoted to creating more images. With close to 100 user accounts customized to specific needs and the ease of sharing images with non registered users, IMS delivers results daily. It couldn't be easier to search for and share images. Downloading at any size needed is simple with the "download" wizard. Publishing files directly to social media or to unique URL's, creating lightboxes and quickly distributing password protected event links are just some of the ways to utilize this powerful yet simple tool! Customer service and technical support are second to none, efficient and personal . Emails are responded to within a couple of hours and even the rare technical issue is always dealt with swiftly and professionally. Feature suggestions are always considered and often implemented in periodic updates (applicable with one click by the system administrator). Other than my user experience, I know that my main system users are thrilled with the system. I've even received emails from our IT people saying how professional the Third Light IT team is when their help is needed. Overall - this is an excellent product backed by a great team of developers, staff and support!

Safe, fast, flexible and time-saving

We have been using Third Light IMS for more than three years in our company. In our opinion, IMS offers a user-friendly, safe and cost-efficient online mediabase for companies of all sizes. We are a digital marketing agency, and we use IMS both for our own needs and on behalf of clients. IMS helps us store, organize, share, find and edit media files of all kinds. We especially like the dynamic, faceted search functionality and the very powerful way in which IMS uses metadata. We have also integrated IMS with two different content management systems CMSs that we use. Together with the developers at Third Light we have developed a picker inside the CMS that allows editors to browse and search their way to right picture, select it, and then dynamically crop and format the image to fit the CMS templates. All of this is done without creating copies of the original image, even if the original is a 50 Mb CMYK TIF file. This gives the advantage of consistent use of images on websites and in other applications, and it saves a lot of time which was previously spent editing, versioning, downloading, organizing and uploading. Our clients are happy to be able to control this entire process themselves - with only a single version of all images in one place, and without the need for any knowledge of image editing software.

Great system and wonderful customer service!

We have had the Third Light IMS system since 2012 and I have absolutely no regrets about our purchase! I absolutely love it! We had a previous DAM system for several years before purchasing Third Light. We moved away from the other system because it lacked functionality that we needed and it was more expensive than Third Light as well. I researched several other DAM systems and found Third Light to be the best. Especially all that they offer for the price point! That was another huge plus for us since we're non-profit. I've been so happy with the move and I've received nothing but great feedback from our internal staff who use it quite often. Not only is the system great, but their Customer Service is outstanding!! I can honestly say that out of any other customer service that I have dealt with (no matter what the company) that Third Light has the best!! They are very timely and responsive, even if it's just to say that they are working on a solution for the problem. They are constantly coming out with updates to the system to make it even better than it already is! I would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a digital asset management system!

Cannot be beaten

We have been customers of Third Light since 2008. It's a versatile product which they are continually enhancing. The support at Third Light is the best I have ever experienced from a software provider and they have always been responsive to customer feedback. For your average end-point user wishing to simply search and download an image it is simplicity itself, meaning that with parts of our library now integrated with our website, we haven't needed to provide instructions for our customers on how to use it. The site configuration is versatile, and along with the folder structures, has meant that we are currently in the process of rolling the IMS out to a sister company, whilst keeping each company's library separate and distinct. Integration with Windows AD means that anyone within our organisation can access the library at the appropriate level for their department without administrators having to set up an account for each new user. We carried out a routine review of the DAM software market last year and for functionality and price, nobody else came even close to what Third Light can offer.

Great product with great support

We have used Third Light's image library product since 2007 and have had virtually no problem with it. All updates are seamless, with little input required from our end. The library is user friendly and also helps our workload enormously, as we can allow our staff to look for suitable images for themselves, rather than having to source and then send them, which had happened previously. The search facility works really well - probably too well in fact - we've had to rethink some of our tagging conventions! We also like that we can provide external consultants with access to restricted folders, so they only get to see what we want them to. On the odd occasion when we've had to contact Third Light to help with a problem, the staff have been very friendly and efficient and kept in touch to make sure all was well again at our end. It makes such a difference to know that you have good support at the end of a telephone line or email service. I have no hesitation in recommending Third Light (and have done) to anyone looking for an image library product.

Excellent product with consistently friendly, helpful and efficient support.

We have been using ThirdLight since 2009 and have recently upgraded from our original in-house appliance to their cloud service. The solution and the service have always been outstanding. The product itself offers exactly what we need in terms of functionality as well as in terms of look, feel, ease of use and manageability. The company held our hand through the initial deployment making it a painless and straightforward process. The training they offered at the time was perfectly tailored to our requirements and we were very quickly up and running. There have been no issues with the product in all this time apart from the discovery of vulnerabilities such as Heartbleed which have always been handled proactively by their support team. They held our hand again with our recent migration to their Premium cloud service. All the data and settings were moved across so that the transition was entirely seamless. I would highly recommend ThirdLight. They have a truly great product and have consistently provided us with a friendly and helpful service.

Comprehensive Image Management system which has revolutionised the way we work

We spent a long time researching and trialling software solutions to handle our ever growing database of imagery - we just kept coming back to Thirdlight which delivered on price, service and attention to what our customers needs were. The Thirdlight Support team engaged with how we needed the system to work and worked with us to integrate it in to all of our cross platform needs. We often have heavy traffic weekends and we found the support team to offer fast support to ensure that the system was able to handle this high traffic without compromise. We feel the system has now ensured smooth running of all of our ongoing archive, staff daily needs and when necessary our press facing actions. Being built by people who know about photography has also ensured that any changing technical areas are quickly updated to make for an excellent up to the minute image management system.

A gem in the DAM world

After spending months researching a DAM for our company (self hosted not cloud) I found that you run into two different things. Either you find a very complicated solution that is extremely expensive or you find a cheaper solution that has very little features. A friend of mine suggested I look into ThirdLight and to be honest at first I thought it would end up being another cheap solution with no features. However, the more I worked with their free demo the more I fell in love with the Intelligent Media Server (IMS). It is very feature rich but also extremely easy to use. It fit what we needed almost perfectly. ThirdLight's IMS was the only solution that we found hit the middle between little features or overly complicated. I always enjoy working with their support team. They are very kind and have proven extremely helpful. I would recommend ThirdLight to anyone wanting a solid solution without having to pay the price for a TV Studio level solution or server back end.

Wonderful digital asset management system, great service. Highly recommended

As a long term customer of Third Light I could no longer imagine the dealing with the complication of digital asset management without them. We have our own server infrastructure hosting our Third Light system comprising a primary and backup server. Third Light installed and set up these and arranged the relevant access through our firewalls, which was done in a timely and professional manner - one of the only system installs that I remember going without a hitch! The team at Third Light support us with updates and regular server maintenance, and although we have very few issues, those that do occur are swiftly and efficiently fixed. Our network requires regular PCI scans and Third Light have been excellent in ensuring that our data is secure against the most up to date threats. I have enjoyed our partnership with Third Light and can recommend them without hesitation.

5 years of excellent product and great customer support

We began using Third Light in 2010 in order to manage our growing collection of digitised images from our archive and museum collections. The functionalilty of the system has grown steadily over that time to incorporate changes to users needs, such as plugins for Adobe Bridge, Lightroom, direct sharing to social media platforms and dropbox. Adding metadata and configuring the system is pretty simple and the level of reporting is great for tracking use and monitoring the way staff use the system. What has impressed us from the start, and continues to do so, is the level of customer support we receive. Direct and rapid support from helpful people at Third Light means that problems are resolved quickly and with the minimum of fuss. More than that, they are open to new feature requests and updates to the feature-set happen regularly.

The best DAM software in the business

I create and manage large image libraries for myself and a number of clients, and have tried most - if not all - of the available digital asset management systems. I used Extensis Portfolio for many years, then Phase One Media Pro, and looked into Canto Cumulus and other competitors before discovering the Third Light IMS about seven years ago. I haven't looked back. Their tech support has been exemplary, and the system is constantly evolving. The system's capabilities are second to none in terms of data management, security, ease of uploading, tracking downloads and allocating permissions to different levels of users. The smart folders and search options work really well. I think the pricing levels are very reasonable for the available options, and once again the support is the best I've encountered from any software developer. I'm sticking with it!

A First Class Product.

Racingfotos.com came to Third Light in 2005 and have never looked backed since. We use the image management system for the maintenance and distribution of our digital library. The most important point for us is that our clients like it, its speed and ease of use. From our point of view the ability to customise the system is important and over the years its increased functionality has only increased and with it our trust in the product. Third Light's customer support with any question or problem we may have is exemplary, quick and friendly. Recommending Third Light's IMS is easy.

Simple, practicle and does what it suppose to

As administrator the system is very intuitive and easy to use. This allows me to enable other administrators. User are able to auto log on to the system under a specific user profile, but easily be upgraded. This function worked well when the 2012 Olympics were on where we allowed journalists to access the library without have to go through a major registration verification. Tip: Set good metadata policies with your contributors to ensure you don't have to do this task yourself.

Excellent Product

We use Third Light's product to store and access photo's and documents. The three things that stand out for our application are: 1) The ease of use and access to our stored data 2) The amazing - and accurate - search facility 3) The reliability of the product. In the time we have been associated with Third Light, we can't think of anything to fault their product or service. Their DAM software really is worth the 5 star rating I have given it.

A thoroughly professional approach to photo management

When I first started using this software, there were few other options for managing photography sales online, but Thirdlight has grown with the times, and now demonstrates that it can meet the needs of the most demanding professional photographers. The enthusiasm and experience of the team behind it also reassures you that they understand the nuances of how to keep data safe and what features delight photographers. It's worth saying that this is not a product for amateurs dabbling in photography, but they can provide plenty of assistance for helping make your site look and work professionally.

Works well as an enterprise-wide solution

We took the decision to use ThirdLight as our digital asset management tool for all our websites and digital products. We'd never used a third-party tool before and so did lots of research into different systems. ThirdLight was right for us as it offered flexibility of use at a very good price. We've been using it for a couple of years now and are very pleased with its performance.
