Wordpress

WordPress helps me to maintain a nice & smooth web design experience and enables me to remain responsive as per meeting up with our client's project expectations. It's really a nice CMS and I highly recommend it to every web design aspirant.

PROS

WordPress is the most flexible and easy-to-work-with CMS I've used so far. I tried out other alternatives like Drupal and others, but WordPress makes the entire web-building experience easy. The tool is beginner friendly and supports a lot of third-party plugins which broadens its functionality, making my designs look great. There are many documents (provided by wordpress.org) for beginners who are just getting started and kin of help to minimize the apprenticeship process.I can't emphasize enough the flexibility I have when working on my projects (and clients') with WordPress. As a matter of, it's a tool I can't do without.

CONS

One major problem with WordPress is that there is no live support--the only place to get the support it's the community forum which isn't guaranteed (as support is provided by random users).

Reasons for switching to WordPress

Drupal is kinda nice too but, it's not just easy to work with (sincerely) and doesn't meet my needs (in general)

Wordpress is by far the best website platform and is highly customisable

I love Wordpress and there is no other platform like it!

PROS

I have used Wordpress for myself and my clients for the past 10 years. It's my preferred platform to build websites on due to the amount of customisation I can make, unlike other platforms such as Shopify which is a lot more difficult and costly. Wordpress feels like a platform where there are no limits to what you can do.

CONS

Woocommerce can be a bit expensive with plugins, but I can make customisations myself unlike Shopify. The dashboard could also do with a refresh to make it more friendly for clients to use. I have had a few websites that have been hacked over the years so I would like to see better security on Wordpress.

Reason for choosing WordPress

Better customisations and page builder options. Cheaper in terms of plugins too.

Reasons for switching to WordPress

With every project, I need to choose whether it will be Wordpress or Shopify for e-commerce. I love shopify's interface, but the customisations can be difficult to make so I will choose Wordpress on occasions.

All these good reviews have something in commen. Most people reviewing this have only ever used WP

In the end WP is a blogging platform and should NOT be used for your big corporate website. It has to many flaws for a that.Using any of the DIY theme builders you will create a good looking website that will become a maintenance, security and SEO nightmare. The amount of hours you will spend trying to fix stuff could have been spent on a system that works well. You will create a monster with 1000 plugins that will break the site as soon as there is a php update.Horrible, then more maintenance and money spend. WP is not a good idea unless it for a small DIY website for self or a small business

PROS

Its easy to install and get up and running. There are TONS of plugins.Great as a blog

CONS

Tons of plugins make the website a nightmare. Every day something stops working. You get attacked all the time so security needs to be on point at all times.Bad choice for a multi website CMS

Reason for choosing WordPress

Had to use it because of clients wishes

Wordpress as a Designer/user

It was neutral to positive experience for me using wordpress. Since I have an engineering and programming background I was able to do quite a bit in a short amount of time. It is a great platform to use for someone who is looking to just have a simple website with basic information and nothing complex. I think it is very intuitive and useful for bloggers.

PROS

I used this software to build a website for a Non-Profit foundation for some fundraising events. I got an account with Bluehost server and wordpress was included in it. For someone who has never built a website before, wordpress did make my life very very easy. It has numerous features that can definitely help a novice like me get a basic website up and running. I enjoyed the following things while using this - Themes It comes with some basic theme templates which can be used to build the website. Just fill in some information that relates to your website and it will populate it. Think of it as a powerpoint template with boxes and design - Easy to upload pictures I was able to create folders and stores pictures on there and name them accordingly so I can go back and use them on different pages. - Widgets and Plugins The main attraction for this software platform I believe is their built in widgets and plugins. You can download from so many options. It is kind of like exploring the app store on your phone. Since it is an open source lot of users create their own widgets and plugins which are either free or you can purchase it. Needless to say purchased ones are much better but I got by with all free ones. - Edit code yes if you are a very savvy css html developer and you understand the code, you can go in and change their code and make adjustments. Warning: Don't mess with it if you don't know what you are doing

CONS

The cons that i noticed in my website after it went live was - Speed The website was just slow. I am not sure if it is because of the widgets and plugins running on wordpress but I hated the speed. - Updates could ruin website Their themes get constantly updated so if you do not update it properly or if the new build released has a bug on it, it could mess up certain things on your website. This happened to many times where the plugins that worked fine on the older build wouldn't work the same on the new. - Time consuming for beginners Yeah it's not as simple as I was expecting it to be. I did spend quite an amount of time understanding the features and how to make best use of them. It was a lot of trial and error so be ready to put in some work at least.

Why isn't everyone using wordpress?

PROS

We use wordpress to create and update our company website. I really don't know why everyone doesn't use Wordpress; it is easy to use, has so many plug ins available so it's very flexible and allows you to give individual users very specific capacities so that any employee can update a post or page if we give them access but they can't accidentally delete the company logo or the whole website. Also, Wordpress has stayed competitive as technology has changed.

CONS

The free templates all look very similar, it's very obvious when a site is using a free template, we had to purchase a paid template to look different than other sites. But it wasn't very expensive so it's not a terrible thing.

Very WordIMPRESSED..... horid cringe worthy pun for some Seriously Amazing Software!

I am using wordpress to create secure websites for a global audience for a non-profit organization I am hoping to launch within the following month or two. Being non profit, It is imperative that I keep costs as low as possible while ensuring the quality is as good as can bee.

PROS

There are just so many options. If you know how to code and love those 0's and 1's then maybe something else might be better, but for lame layman like myself that is teaching himself how to webdesign, Wordpress platform has been a godsend. There truly seems to be an infinite number of plugins and themes available, and as it is open source there is little chance developers will be slowing down the momentum in releasing more.

CONS

I think the only frustration was there being too many choices, which is not really the fault of the platform. I spent more time trying to ensure that I was purchasing the best possible addons, plugins, themes and hosting sites for wordpress specific pages and ended up with a library full of plugins ill never use.

Reason for choosing WordPress

Wordpress is easy enough to learn for anyone with basic computer skills and the ability to use google search and youtube. There are as many tutorials on how to use wordpress as their are applications for its use. Others appeared too simple and I wanted to future proof my website pages. Wix, which I checked out, mentioned something along the lines of how to convert your wix page to wordpress, and to me I figured why wait to need to do that, I will just start with wordpress rather than have to move to it later.

Anyone can build their own website

I'm not new to building websites. I used to use Joomla and phpbb to build sites. I actually got fairly good at it. One day I decided to try Wordpress. I was concerned, as I didn't wish to build a blog. I always considered Wordpress blog software. I soon was very surprised that it goes well beyond blogs. It is one of the easiest to use to build your own website.

PROS

This software is beyond user friendly. With a small amount of research, you can build a professional looking website. This saves a purchaser a large amount of money. paying someone to build your site is very costly, and some non-for-profits simply don't have the capital to do so.

CONS

Unfortunately, Wordpress has always had a spam issue. Every contact form from Wordpress is constantly hit with spam. You can use captcha to offset the spam and use some plugins made to stop the spam, but there are always a few that slip through.

Reason for choosing WordPress

Wordpress is quicker to update and to me has better security than the others.

Reasons for switching to WordPress

I tried Wordpress and found it much easier and less costly to use than Joomla. With Joomla you have to install extensions and plugins, but Wordpress only requires a simple plugin install.

Wordpress ease of use, highly functional, great software!

As an influencer and artisan I needed something with the best ease of use to deliver my content easily and quickly and this is the best in my opinion. Everytime I use this product I find something new I can do with it! 5 stars

PROS

Wordpress has been a go to source for me, mainly for my blog but there is so much you can do ! The templates are amazing and just like all of wordpress very user friendly you dont have to know how to code to use wordpress. Visually pleasing and so many plug ins to take your blog or online shop, real estate listing site or forum or heck even a scheduling plug in, so many additional things you can add or use to make using wordpress an amazing experience! Ilove the fact that also if you have your own website you can manage and moderate all your content or if you have more than one blog mange those from a dashboard all on one spot! The analytics are all right there also and being able to breakdown site traffic etc is a must. This is a must have and if you research even more you'll see all the amazing ways you to can use this little gem!

CONS

I'm gonna have to stretch on this one as I dont really have alot of complaints so if I had to list any would be making sure to look for updates and that us a stretch lol I love wordpress!

Reason for choosing WordPress

In the end as I have other choices I've signed up for and purchased it was the one I kept coming back to. Its ease of use and all additional plug ins etc won me over.

Extremely flexible, feature rich website platform

This platform is the foundation of our current business operations - we use it for all client websites. It is an incredible tool when used in the way it was intended, and allows our clients to maintain ownership of and flexibility updating their websites themselves.

PROS

WordPress being the most widely used website platform on the internet makes it also the most flexible and feature-rich from our experience. If there's something you want to do, someone has figured out how to do it already and you can benefit from that. If you're experiencing an issue, someone else has also likely experience that issue and has figured it out, again benefiting you. I love how this platform can be the foundation for almost anything you can dream up aesthetically and functionally.

CONS

It isn't necessarily intuitive for someone who has never used it before, which creates a relatively steep learning curve for someone wanting to build a site themselves. Also, it is VERY easy to hire someone who makes WordPress hard to use and edit things on your own site which is a shame, but a result of the flexibility of the platform and the abundance of people who offer WordPress related services at a discount.

Reason for choosing WordPress

The primary reasons were the widespread use of WordPress, it's flexibility, it's community support base, and its open source nature.

Wordpress Review

Overall, it has been a great experience. I found once you get over the learning curve it is a really powerful and great tool for developing websites. There are tons of options and I have found that there is a plugin for any type of website you are designing.

PROS

The biggest Pro for me is the Wordpress Community. I found that most of the time I can get on the Wordpress forums and get answers to my questions. Rarely have I found that my issues were unique. There always seems to be someone that had the problem before and has given a solution. When I have posted questions on different forums I usually get really good responses and people tend to follow through until the issue gets resolved.

CONS

The amount of plugins in the Wordpress repository. I do find it frustrating sometimes trying to find a good plugin. There are a lot of choices and trying to test and figure out which are of good quality and one that aren't can be really time consuming. If there was a better way to review and rate the plugins that would be really great.

Reason for choosing WordPress

The community support, the plugins available and the cost.

Reasons for switching to WordPress

The community support and the ease of use.

Easy for a novice

A really great tool for someone just starting out in building websites either for themselves or clients. Once you grasp the basics of how wordpress works, the rest is a breeze. Everything you could have as a question is answered on official and un official posts on youtube. The templates have saved me tons of time and added to the creative brain storming of site looks.

PROS

As a novice just over a year ago, I was able to get started and experiment in a safe offline environment before publishing content. Once I learnt about the hundreds of plugins that make each project magical, the sky became the limit. I absolutely love that you can make it as stunning or as subtle as you want.

CONS

I am not a fan of the constant plugin updates. almost every week, there are a few plugins needing updates. I get nervous as in the back of my mind, updates may affect an already published site. So all my updates are prompted and not auto updating. I then review how critical the update is and then update as and when needed.

Reason for choosing WordPress

Ease of use and adaptability. I must say though that shopify is slowly catching up with their apps now available that do similar functions. Shopify pricing structure though, still makes it a nice to have and not a necessity for building and scaling.

Reasons for switching to WordPress

I was looking for a versatile product that does not tie me in to designs and solutions that only they have. Word press has tons of plugins developed by outside developers that add so much value and make it truely open to all.

WordPress is getting better, but they might need to be the best!

Great! Overall, I would still gladly recommend WordPress to my peers and friends. Despite discrepancies, WordPress is still worth recommending.

PROS

- The very thing that we like about WordPress is the fact that is is FREE and Open-Source. You cannot have one great deal with that.- It is easy to use. Gone are the days where you build your website from ground up - no any other options. If money is an issue, you do it yourself - learn to code. If money is not much of a concern - you hire designer and developer at once. WordPress just dust it off to a new level. And you know why and how!- WordPress has the most varied and numerous arsenal of plugins and extension that blur any competition. It almost got it all for you!- Support Community. Type a WordPress issue on Google and you will be very hard-pressed to not see any solution to your issue with the WordPress community on the top of the search.- Theme Builder, Theme, Plugin compatibility, support and integration. WordPress has the most affiliated third-party Theme Builder manufacturer. You bet on it, you will less likely to not be able to find the things that you need - Website building concerns.

CONS

- As always, WordPress native builder, though free, is still ugly. Riddled with User Experience Issues. It's confusing where and when the widgets appear when you need to add them.- Some of the affiliated theme/plugins are just so darn expensive. Use WooCommerce and a very simple functionality is at a hundred bucks at least. You'd be better off learning how to code PHP.- Lacks User Experience sentiments. WordPress needs to employ user experience to there website. It is still not user friendly even though it is a CMS-Based website builder.

Reason for choosing WordPress

We choose WordPress for it's flexibility, community, support and wide variety of useful website building tools.

Reasons for switching to WordPress

Just to try them all out.

A great platform with lots of flexibility to build your website on.

Wordpress is probably one of the easiest content management software tools I've used. It can pretty much accommodate any design and function you want but you really should think it all through very carefully before you commit to anything. Things may work well at first but you might find down the road that one choice you made interferes with the ability to do something else and then you might have to start all over or live with it. If more formatting options were available as a default, I think it would help reduce the amount of HTML coding you need to do to get something to look exactly right. We are in the middle of redesigning our website now and with all the options available, we decided to stick with Wordpress again but this time we are taking a lot of time to make sure we get everything we got wrong before set up right and it is looking very good so far.

PROS

Wordpress has a very organized and intuitive dashboard for admins that makes it very easy to edit websites. All the different types of pages you would want to build have their own section and the customization is only limited by your own capabilities. There are tons of web designers that are very familiar with the platform if you need help and it also has plugins for most third party tools you may want to integrate within your site. The simple, built in event and blog tools make those pages basically plug and play where you just need to enter the details into fields and the page is formatted for you based on the design you set up in the beginning.

CONS

While updates are great, I think it gets out of hand sometimes. Especially when some updates may require you to make significant changes to the design or style of your site, it sometimes makes more sense not to update. But if you are not up to date, your site can lose functionality and features. This may not be an issue for some people but when you start using a lot of plugins and customization, some items may need certain updates while the same update might interferes with others. Then you have to decide what matters to you more and you usually end up compromising something.

Plugins!! plugins everywhere

Super easy to deploy and have a really pretty website published in a few hours. The bad part, as I said, are the constant update that you have to make to keep your site up without risks of being hacked.

PROS

Wordpress is really easy to deploy and have a site running in less than 2 hours. It aims to this "integration" that excels other CMSs like Joomla. Wherever you go, there's a Wordpress integration as simple as some clicks. That's really useful. One of the best and simple things that I like from this is the separation of posts and pages. You can make sure that everything you have on posts are news items, articles, blog posts, etc. and leave the pages for the structure of the website

CONS

The bad part of this is that there are some basic features like photos on a category or even some of the simplest things you might expect to have there, you need a plugin for this. In the end of the day, you'll have a pretty website with something like 20 plugins doing basic stuff that Joomla has by default. In the end, you have to keep your site updated frequently and you shouldn't lose that from sight or you might have a security gap and have your site pwnd (hacked).

Reason for choosing WordPress

I didn't chose it over Joomla. I use it for different puroposes than Joomla. Having this clear, I use this for shopping carts and websites that require some more people writing posts and not having them messing with the structure of the site.

Best in bests, Very productive and functional with ease of use

I am using WordPress since 2013 to create websites, pages and my own personal blog. I started using it when I didn't know web development and WordPress empowers me to make my own website. It was very easy to learn it and make a website that I want. I have made so many websites for my friends and some of my clients and everyone is very happy with its quick construction, easy to use builders and variety of themes and plugins which can be installed and customized with a click. It helped me to succeed. I always recommend WordPress for web development to my friends because of its ease to use, versatility and power to build anything in low cost.

PROS

WordPress allows making blogs, websites, pages, e-commerce sites and even a social network. It’s so powerful. One of the huge advantage of working with WordPress is, it's very cheap and quick to build a website or blog. It is open source so it’s free to install it on a self-hosted server just by a click. I had a business idea so making a website with WordPress took no time, just installed it and applied a theme and it’s good to go. Another advantage of WordPress is its plugins. There are so many WordPress plugins which allows WordPress to add more functionality. The basic installation of WordPress allows to create pages, websites, show contents and manage content from the backend. WordPress is a really strong blogging engine so you can have your own blog and accept comments from visitors, so that’s what is in the WordPress core. But if you want to capture leads or a calendar or a signup form or a nice looking slider or whatever you can think of; you can build using WordPress Plugins, which is a huge advantage and most of the plugins to add features to WordPress website are free. Third advantage is its standard for CMS. There are a lot of free resources online where you can learn how to make a WordPress website or blog. A huge WordPress developers community and resources are available to provide support for free, so what do you want if you can get things done for free which is a huge huge advantage.

CONS

As WordPress is free so it doesn't mean to create a website using WordPress will work forever without updating. To make it work properly it may need monthly or quarterly updates to pages, theme and plugins because these things receive updates from companies which developed these awesome themes and plugins. If you don't update them time to time your website can become slower, and sometimes a plugin change in the update may break website with is very awful sometimes. So make sure to update theme and plugin on time. Another disadvantage is of WordPress is, as it is free so there is a lot of demand for WordPress and sometime you need to build a website which is right for now but after a couple of months or a year when your business expands and you want to make changes to the website, so you may need an expert to do it for you; which is very hard to find the real expert. Because everyone knows how to make a website with WordPress and customize it but very less of them are truly WordPress experts and can do what exactly do you want. So before building a website for your business using WordPress first meet an expert, discuss your requirement and ask for help so that he can guide you well to select a great theme and supported plugin for your website, So that if you may want to make changes to your website in future when you scale your business; you can do it easily with a very low cost.

Not a fan of WordPress

It isn't my favorite website building tool. I will work with it if that is what the client wants or what they already have, but if I am building from scratch I try to point my client toward sites with higher levels of security or functions they need already built in.

PROS

Because the platform is open source, people can build plugins and templates for the platform. You can purchase templates to make your website look nice and it does have a lot of features - that you can add on, typically with an additional fee. I think it is fantastic for certain types of websites, but if you need advanced functionalities, I would recommend going with a platform that already has those tools, especially if it is eCommerce.

CONS

Don't get me wrong, WordPress is a very popular and easy tool to use - with the right plugins or if you are experienced in coding. However, WordPress is a platform that is very very easy to mess up if you don't know what you are doing. Additionally, I have found WordPress to be an insecure and easy to hack platform for a few reasons. 1) The updates to the platform itself happen frequently but without much warning to plugin developers, so a plugin can break your site if the platform itself updates. 2) Because it is open source, it is a very popular platform for SQL injection and hacking attacks. Nearly every WordPress website that I currently manage had an experience with hacking, malware, SQL injection and more prior to becoming a client. You need special plugins to keep your site safe. They don't automatically come with it 3) Many newbies at web design don't know that in order for your SEO plugins (the ones that Google likes) to work properly, you actually have to put information in them. They don't work automatically so just having it on the site isn't enough. 4) One bad designer can cause a lot of problems that are not so easy to fix, especially if they mess with things they shouldn't.
