Overview

About Ubiq

Ubiq is a cloud-based encryption solution designed to help businesses of all sizes build customer-side encryption and protect data across various applications, programming languages, storage infrastructure and cloud environments via API-based integration. The dashboard lets organizations register and manage applications of projects and generate master keys which are secured through FIPS 140-2 Level 3-compliant hardware security modules. Users can create accounts, retrieve API keys and download language-specific client library. It helps IT teams automate key rotation, replace encryption algorithms and perform re-encryption/re-keying. Administrators can also design encryption strategy as per application, set up roles and permissions and monitor user activity. ...

Different paradigm for data encryption

PROS

Provides "Bring Your Own Encryption" capability and key management for any type of application. This allows for more granular cryptographic separation of data within a database, bucket, or similar providing defense-in-depth against application or infrastructure attacks. Nice web UI and powerful API.

CONS

Format Preserving Encryption (FPE) is not currently offered.

Encryption/decryption made easy

PROS

Ubiq's platform was an easy choice - it gave us a fast, intuitive way to implement app-level encryption for a client solution without having to embed complex encryption logic into the app and giving us an abstraction for managing keys.

CONS

We're looking at encryption from the browser-to-service, which isn't yet supported, but looking forward to it coming soon.

A Great Time-Saver for Busy Developers

I'm impressed. Rarely have I used a third party service that's so simple to use and with such high quality libraries, tutorials, and documentation.

PROS

Ubiq encryption was trivial to add to my existing code. Libraries for any language/platform I cared about were available from public code repos, making it easy to maintain and manage over the complete product life cycle. Documentation seems complete and well written, although I didn't need to read the docs to make things work.

CONS

Because the complexity or encryption and key management is hidden behind (admittedly excellent) default settings, developers and their business people should carefully consider their crypto needs and threat model when they integrate Ubiq to make sure they get the right settings for their application.

Encryption Made Simple

PROS

Simple and clean is the name of the game with Ubiq. I've used their JavaScript client library and found it just as trivial to drop into a codebase as they boast. They also offer a snazzy dashboard to help you manage your registered applications and give you data on your encryption/decryption usage. They have clearly put a lot of effort into making cryptography and encryption one less thing for product/development teams to have to worry about in their application implementation by providing a pleasant developer experience.

CONS

I think their are opportunities for Ubiq to offer or highlight additional cryptographic/encryption feature sets to help show the breadth of the expertise and competency that they offer through their platform.
