Considering time efficiency in building a good-looking website, WiX is a no-brainer

WiX serves best as a prototype when discussing with stakeholders on the design / look and feel for anything that appears online. Instead of putting the text in a word document and arguing the color tone or how pictures should be displayed, why not just open up a WiX account and start building a prototype to facilitate discussion? My experience is that this tool significantly reduces the turnaround time discussing / confirming with vendors on web design details. Another shortcoming is its SEO capability. But again, it's best for beginner and not for advanced user.

PROS

I would consider Wix as the most easy-to-use website builder, when compared with Wordpress & Strikingly. Over the years it has made huge improvements, especially now with its ADI (Artificial Design Intelligence) feature where you'll first be asked a couple of questions regarding the purpose, the functions, the look and feel of your ideal website, then a ready version would be automatically generated for your further edit, i.e. via drag and drop of your preferred style.

CONS

At first I didn't even recognize the difference between Wix Editor & Wix ADI so I got confused and found difficulty following the step-by-step advice on Q&A session. It's simple to identity which is which: If you didn't answer those questions in the beginning, and chose your own designer template instead, then that's a website built under Wix Editor which allows full control over every aspect of the site. On the other hand, if you're like me who wants a quick solution and accept the readily generated website, then it's built under WiX ADI, but you then lose the autonomy to change, even it's just the minor stuff on the webpage. And here comes the problem: Sometimes, when the functions on WiX ADI just didn't work (e.g. after hitting a button a menu was supposed to appear on the left but it just didn't show up) then it's time to write an inquiry to Customer Service Support, instead of reading through the Q&A which mainly offers advice on WiX Editor.

Reasons for switching to Wix

Wordpress is functional but a lot more complicated and not so design-intuitive. Since my focus is on layout and ease of viewing on mobile, WiX is way more friendly to use.

Simplicity is king!

I have been using Wix for several years and, currently have two websites with them (Premium package). I can only recall a few mishaps that Wix went to great lengths to help out. I know how difficult it is to maintain a sparkling support group while also running a massive SaaS setup with millions of moving parts! I have to say that Wix has REALLY got the support portion of their operation down! Excellent customer support!

PROS

I have been involve in high-end I.T. work for the past 25 years and have never encountered a SaaS package as simple to use as Wix. I've told many I've encountered about the product (including my wife who uses it as well). I love the interconnectedness of everything and Wix really works hard to fuse together all the options to make it as user-friendly as humanly possible.

CONS

I wish within the Price quote options: 1) there was a way to stamp your business logo within the online form (designing your own price quote/invoice online form would be ideal), 2) price quote was available within the Wix mobile (iPhone) app. I would recommend sending a customer-wide email (perhaps you did and I missed it) stating that support@wix.com will no longer be a platform that will be utilize for support. I typed a very lengthy, descriptive email to support only to find I received an email stating that the platform is no longer used. You got a sigh on this one, but your chat support was instant and the online helper [sensitive content hidden] was spot on. :)

Reason for choosing Wix

I could instantly undo what I messed up on when editing my Wix websites.

Bad for e-commerce. Good for simple marketing websites.

For years we've built websites for clients (and ourselves) on Wix and mostly have liked it as an easy-to-use website builder. It's only now that we tried to set up an e-commerce store and process payments that I've come to realize that there is no support, no follow-up and no one really cares if your money is sitting in their bank account instead of yours. It's deeply soured me on the whole company - although it's probably just that their e-commerce/payments group is incompetent. Anyway - save yourself a lot of stress and don't use Wix Payments. We set up a store for a client on Shopify and while it's more expensive we've had no issues like this and gotten prompt support for the only payment issue we ever had there.

PROS

Visual design interface is simple to learn, has good templates, is flexible and easy to design a great looking page in. Far more design flexibility than Squarespace. Also like that forms, pop-ups and other items like that which cost extra in Shopify are free in Wix. A great platform for businesses that need an informational website.

CONS

Wix Payments is a nightmare. I set up an ecommerce store for one business in Wix where we'd already built a brochure site and after getting over $9k in credit card transactions Wix is unable (a month and a half later) to send the money to the bank. Support is non-existent. I've explained the situation to 6 different people, never gotten a phone call with anyone and the money is still in Wix instead of transferred. The ecommerce store itself is pretty limited too. All in all I deeply regret not using Shopify or Big Commerce - or at the very least setting up my own payment gateway through Stripe/Square instead of trusting Wix with payments.

Reason for choosing Wix

As a website builder Wix and Tilda are the best - easy for no-code sites and flexible enough to allow hard-coding of specialized features if needed. Of the two, Wix has a better marketplace of plug-ins. As an e-commerce platform we tried Wix because the client's marketing site was already built there - but it turns out is not suitable for e-commerce compared to Shopify or BigCommerce.

Wix: Not as good as WordPress... arguably better than SquareSpace (that's right. I said it!)

I have designed two websites with Wix. I am extremely pleased with how one website looks and with the email campaigns that have been super easy to set up and send out. That client needed a beautiful site and email functionality. Wix was cost effective for this purpose and she is able to make minor changes even though she is not tech-savvy. My other client needed shopping cart functionality and already had his site made at Wix. I made the site look nicer and loaded all of his items into the cart... but Wix could not handle the size of the store. The site works and looks great, but he had to use Shopify for his purposes. Overall, I choose WordPress because, as a designer, I need 100% functionality and the ability to do anything my clients need. Out of the box, Wix can't do some of these custom things. But I have no problem recommending Wix as the CMS to use when you are not a designer and you can't afford SquareSpace (nor should you use Squarespace because, despite SqSp marketing, a developer is required for simple changes). I am not a fan of Squarespace. So! Use Wix if WordPress is too big of a beast. :)

PROS

Wix is easy to use. It is a WYSIWYG CMS that handles everything from design to email campaigns to shopping carts. It features a number of different styles of photo galleries and offers a large range of word processor-style copy options (compared to Squarespace). Dragging padding is easy, searching for high-quality photos and videos (provided by Wix) is easy. Font options are plenty. Wix allows you to upload your own photos, which are stored in an image gallery for easy selection throughout the design process (Squarespace does not have an image gallery which means you have to upload the same image multiple times whenever you need it which is extremely slow and frustrating). Changes can be made per item per section allowing 100% customization (Squarespace applies changes globally and code is required for per-item changes). Wix is closer to WordPress than SquareSpace when it comes to being able to do whatever you want to do to get things exactly as you want them without using code. Wix uses plugins for added functionality (Squarespace does not have plugins available). For a beginner, Wix is a great CMS.

CONS

Wix is not WordPress. It is designed for beginners to make all of the basic things anyone needs as easy as drop and drag. But WordPress + Divi theme is the best choice if you aren't afraid of a little learning curve. Wix's shopping cart functionality is not powerful. I made a store with a few dozen choices that had a handful of options each. This crashed the cart. If you have a handful of items to sell, Wix would be fine. Otherwise, use Shopify.

Reason for choosing Wix

A client already had a site at Wix that needed modification. Another client wanted to be able to make her own updates and Wix is a simple interface compared to WordPress. For non-designers who are not tech-savvy, I recommend Wix because of the ease of use and the email marketing ease of use. Plus, you don't need a separate Internet Host Provider (ISP) because Wix hosts your site. It's an all in one.

Great for creating professional looking websites

Overall, my experience with Wix has been positive. It is great for creating professional looking websites without too much technical knowledge. The tools are intuitive and the templates are attractive. However, it can be a bit limiting in terms of customizing the website.

PROS

I have used Wix software for a few of my website projects and I find it to be a great platform for creating a professional website. The user interface is easy to use and the drag and drop feature makes it simple to customize the look and feel of the website. The templates are also quite attractive and there are plenty of tools and features that can be used to make a website look great. One of my favorite features is the ability to add custom code to modify the website even more.

CONS

On the downside, I have found that Wix can be a bit limiting in terms of customizability. There are not many options for custom styling and the templates can be quite rigid. Also, it can be difficult to switch between templates after the website has been built.

A useful tool for non-specialist users to build websites

I've had a long-running website promoting the freelance services I offer. I use Wix with the desire to build a website with a new look, it took me a few days to get used to how the tools work, but after that I didn't finish, because I felt like I can't really freely change the graphic, the layout of the content, there are too many limitations. Wix mainly provides templates with the most simplified interface, focusing on eye-catching colors and simple content.

PROS

Wix has colorful templates available, suitable for those who want to promote the image of an advertising campaign, or a certain product. Wix is suitable for young customers with the following criteria: not many words but many images. So it is often appropriate to build websites with an interface similar to social networks, not a blog that provides a lot of information.

CONS

Websites sometimes don't load quickly, especially when it comes to viewing and selecting templates. Templates usually do not provide many features to be able to change the graphic, but only a few brief content. In general, users are still limited to being able to build a website by themselves that has a lot of content, many pages and many sections.

Reasons for switching to Wix

With wordpress I have more options, more features to suit my needs, I can customize and build a website with lots of content, pages and sections.

I'm Sold!

My store presence is entirely located online. Wix provides plenty of built-in functionality, reliability, and customer service to provide confidence to know not only will everything work, but it will be done relatively easily.

PROS

I appreciate the depth of the product and the customer service. They are always quick to respond and eager to solve the problem with a smile. They provide enough built-in productivity that I have no need for third-party software.

CONS

They are always adding new features and functionality. With that said, I do believe that some of their built-in products may have been completed a little quicker than needed. For example, I would love better built-in navigation for Video collections (i.e. A sortable list of available videos in a channel). Also, the Channels themselves cannot be sorted except by clicking and dragging files. ?? Some of these built-in functions just seem to have been finished to quickly.

Reason for choosing Wix

Ease of use and depth of product.

Reasons for switching to Wix

At the time, Wix offered Flash-based functionality which I loved. When they moved to HTML5, I was impressed with their work and vision and stuck with them.

Wix Review: Is it Really Good?

PROS

Among many site builder software available, Wix distinguishes itself from others since it offers a wide variety of user friendly tools to customers. Among the many advantages of the software following are the most attractive. 1. The design templates available are upgraded and with the drag-drop options any one can create a website within a short span of time. 2. User friendly interface of wix offers different tools to create, manage and update websites and its content. 3. We can add animations for texts as well as for other elements in a flexible user interface. 4. There are a number of website apps that the user can add to the website using the App market tool. 5. Built in SEO management makes it easy for the user to market products and services. 6. Flexible payment plans. 7. Free logo maker tool and free https. 8. Customer support is excellent.

CONS

Even though Wix is among one among the best of its kind, there are some areas in which they can really make improvements which would enhance user experience and the quality of service provided. 1. Ads are a major problem for users using the free and connect domain plans. The Wix banner is also a hassle. 2. Even though Wix offers a smart assistant to build websites through Artificial Design Intelligence, a major drawback is that its not available to all types of projects. 3. Lack of a unlimited plan and the need to have a paid plan for tracking and analytics are among the things that need some improvement. 4. If you wish to go for a redesigning, no option is available to change the template already chosen.

Reasons for switching to Wix

As a person having less knowledge in coding, WordPress seemed so complex with its complicated tools in designing websites. On the contrary Wix seemed a good choice since less coding and web designing experience is needed to build a website from scratch.

Easy to Use and Deploy

I'm very satisfied with WIX but would love for them to update some of their functionality.

PROS

Wix is a powerful drag and drop web editor. It has a full suite of strips and components that make designing the site easy and quick. It's easy to update the SEO and to customize the site to anything you want. Font selection is great and the ability to upload additional google fonts is advantageous. BONUS: The app tracks visitors and lets you know when someone is interacting with your site.

CONS

The inability to switch templates is problematic. So when a person needs to update the site to a new look and feel, it's time intensive. The mobile editor is entirely too limited. In a mobile first world, we need a whole suite of editing options. Also, consistency between pages can be problematic. It would be ideal to put in pixel ratios and height maximums.

Reason for choosing Wix

Squarespace only offers a 14 day trial. That's not enough time to overcome the learning curve and test out site development.

More diverse than you think

I have enjoyed my experience using Wix. My website has never gone down and it has allowed me to create automation for parts of my business.

PROS

What I like about Wix is that you don't need to be a software developer to create a great-looking website. There are a lot of tools that many users don't realize that Wix has. For instance, setting up a workshop and taking payment is easy to create on your Wix website. There are many themed templates to choose from to help you create the look and feel that you want without having to spend a lot of time thinking about how you want your website to look.

CONS

There is a bit of a learning curve if you want to make some advanced changes to your website. This may take some time or you may need the help of someone who has Wix knowledge if you aren't a techy person.

Reason for choosing Wix

I found Wix to have options right out of the box that alternative products did not have. I also noticed that Wix was not staying stagnant in their market. They are consistently updating and creating a more powerful tool everyday. I felt it was a website that could grow with my business needs without breaking the bank.
