# Clio User Reviews

## Reviews summary

- Overall rating: 4.7/5
- Total reviews: 1,744

### Secondary ratings

- Ease of use: 4.6/5
- Customer support: 4.7/5
- Value for money: 4.5/5
- Functionality: 4.5/5

### Rating distribution

- 5 stars: 1,320 reviews (76%)
- 4 stars: 323 reviews (19%)
- 3 stars: 51 reviews (3%)
- 2 stars: 17 reviews (1%)
- 1 star: 33 reviews (2%)

### Most mentioned pros

- Additionally, the ability to keep documents on Clio's servers and then access them wherever I have internet access allows me to travel much more lightly while avoiding the concern that I will not have the document I need when I need it or that a paper document will be lost.
- Specifically, the document management and drafting features let me build and reuse templates efficiently, which has made my output faster and more consistent.
- It brings together calendaring, matter management, billing, documents, client communication, payments, and workflows all in one place, which helps create more consistency across the firm and a better experience for clients.

### Most mentioned cons

- Reporting is one of the weaker areas, especially if you want detailed operational data or more customized tracking. As the firm grows, you also start to notice that some workflows feel a little rigid, and there are times where you have to adjust your process to fit the system.
- That said, there is one frustration worth mentioning: the credit card processing fees add up quickly. If clients elect to pay via credit card with any frequency, that cost structure can feel steep and eats into what would otherwise be a strong value proposition. If I elect to pass the cost on to the client, they lose the ability to use Apple Pay, which is why I haven't yet elected to do that.
- I also wish there was a way to share large files with opposing counsel. While Clio for co-counsel is great when tag-teaming cases, there is no easy way to share large files with people you do not want to give access to your file.

### A Feature‑Rich Legal Platform With Excellent Support and Strong Value

Clio is one of the most complete and polished legal practice management platforms available today. It excels in the areas that matter most to law firms: document management, billing, client communication, and workflow automation. The navigation is clean and intuitive, and the platform’s extensive integration ecosystem makes it easy to connect Clio with the tools you already use. Customer support is a standout strength, and the platform’s continuous development means new features and improvements roll out regularly. However, Clio’s pricing can be steep, especially for solo practitioners or firms that don’t need advanced features. Some capabilities — like document automation, custom reporting, and AI tools — require higher-tier plans. Despite the cost, Clio delivers strong value for firms that want a single system to manage matters, documents, billing, and client communication without juggling multiple platforms. It’s reliable, modern, and built with the legal workflow in mind.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

Value for Money: Clio isn’t the cheapest option, but the platform delivers strong value because it replaces multiple separate tools — billing, document storage, client communication, intake, and reporting — in one system. Reviewers consistently note that the real value appears in the Essentials and Advanced tiers, where workflows, integrations, and reporting unlock major efficiency gains. Customer Support: Clio’s support is widely considered industry‑leading, with high satisfaction scores and 24/7 support available on higher plans. Users praise the responsiveness and depth of knowledge from support staff. Ease of Use: The interface is clean, modern, and intuitive. Navigation between matters, contacts, billing, and documents feels natural, and most users report that the learning curve is manageable compared to other legal practice management systems. Document Management: Clio offers strong document management with templates, automation, and integrations with Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, and NetDocuments. Documents can be tied directly to matters, shared with clients, and generated using merge fields. Invoicing: Billing and invoicing are major strengths. Clio supports hourly, flat-fee, contingency, LEDES billing, batch invoicing, online payments, and trust accounting. Many firms report that invoicing is significantly faster and more accurate after switching to Clio. Navigation: Matter pages act as a central hub where everything — documents, notes, tasks, time entries, billing — is connected. Navigation between related items is smooth and logical. Integrations: With 250+ integrations, Clio connects to nearly every major legal or productivity tool, making workflows more seamless.

#### Cons

Value for Money: Clio is one of the more expensive platforms, and some features are locked behind higher-tier plans, which can feel like nickel‑and‑diming for smaller firms. Ease of Use: While generally intuitive, solo practitioners sometimes find Clio overwhelming because it includes more features than they need. Document Management: Advanced document automation is only available on higher tiers, which increases cost. Invoicing: No built‑in accounting system — you must integrate QuickBooks for full accounting functionality. Bugs and Issues: Occasional bugs appear after major updates, especially with new AI features or integrations. Most are resolved quickly, but they can disrupt workflows. (Inference based on “continuous product development” and rapid feature releases, which often correlate with minor bugs.) Navigation: While generally smooth, the sheer number of features can make the platform feel complex for new or small firms.

### Not perfect, but far better than the alternative

- Overall rating: 4/5
- Reviewer: Jarred E.
- Verified reviewer: Yes
- Industry: Law Practice
- Company size: Self-Employed
- Product usage: Used daily for more than 2 years
- Reviewed: May 2026

Overall I am happy with Clio. It is not a perfect system and I sometimes find myself having to adjust to the software where I am constrained by limitations of the software that could be easily fixed by Clio.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

I appreciate the ability to manage an entire case on a single platform. The ability to keep an overall schedule as well as a calendar for each case which then syncs to my Google calendar for me to view on my phone is invaluable. Additionally, the ability to keep documents on Clio's servers and then access them wherever I have internet access allows me to travel much more lightly while avoiding the concern that I will not have the document I need when I need it or that a paper document will be lost. The ability to create templates for commonly used pleadings and then automatically populate them with information from a case frees up much of the time I would have spent doing repetitive work.

#### Cons

I wish there was more freedom to customize Clio to work for me rather than having to adjust to work within the bounds of Clio. For example, many times I will have hearings or meetings with a client that involve multiple cases for the same client. I am only able to associate a calendar entry with a single case, so I am left with the options of having a single calendar entry associated with only one of the client's cases or having multiple calendar entries for the same event.

#### Reasons for switching to Clio

The pricing compared to the features offered made Clio a better fit for my practice.

I am still drawn to Clio that possesses rich case management features but definitely a more interactive adoption of user suggestions and expansion definitely of its reports is needed.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Taking into consideration the word "Overall" - the Clio experience has been good. We experienced some minor hiccups in customer service this month, March 2026 which was resolved by escalation. The issue could have been quickly resolved had the representative looked at the issue commonsensically but it was a painful experience BUT one that was resolved. Resolution is the Goal right?

#### Cons

Thinking outside the box with some customer service representatives; I feel they should indeed lead to "opening the eyes" of the user with their insights.

This is an accurate "nutshell" description of Clio. Based on my experience since January 2020, and those of which I have worked with during this time, if you practice law, if you run a law firm, if you own a law firm, you NEED to get on board with Clio. Clio easily beats the competitors, and it sets the bar high as the best all-in-one practice management software. Providing you with the safety assurance and compliance needed, and the support to manage and save all client files, all communications in and outbound, to maintain and track all court deadlines, draft court forms and create individual and personalized pleadings, perform all tasks related to billing, and everything else that is case and client related. The overall savings to have multiple features with multi-level support software included in one program, is extremely affordable. I highly recommend everyone at least requests to go through a demo so you can see everything they offer, because "yes CLIO can do that" for you. When you're looking for a software program that can do something and also provide added support and features, yes CLIO can, and will, do that for you. If you're looking for a whole practice management system that has the best customer service, yes CLIO can do that, and it will surprise you with their great customer support.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Based off 26 years in the legal industry, and 6 years being a Law Firm Administrator, I appreciate Clio for all the advancements and excellent customer service they provide. Clio has a full case/client management system in the cloud, with additional features to add the ability to draft court forms, create your own formatted and drafted pleadings, it has the ability to eFile, record the time and expenses in and Bill to clients. Document management and AI features to help analyze and review internal documents with fast results. Clio has an accounting platform, which sync's to your main program, so you can stay on top of state codes that request you maintain records on IOLTA trust accounts. Clio has a CRM program, and can track client intake to help onboard clients quickly, easily and track specific referrals and marketing lines.

#### Cons

Hard to think of things that I don't like about Clio, but it would be great if when they imperilment new or updated features, if the notification had a link to additional detail in depth, and maybe a link to the help guides or training video.

#### Reasons for choosing Clio

The "all in one" feature and their excellent customer service were the key reasons for making this decision. As we began managing our caseload and saw all the benefits we were using for each of the modules and service areas, there was no single software out there that could compete.

Overall, our experience with Clio has been positive. I particularly love how forward thinking Clio is as a brand and they continue to challenge the way that law serves the community. It is a strong platform for firms that want to stay organized, improve client experience, and centralize operations. Like any system, though, it works best when the firm already has strong processes and accountability in place.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

From my perspective, Clio has been a really solid platform for managing a modern law firm. One of the biggest positives is that it is fairly easy to use compared to a lot of other legal software. It brings together calendaring, matter management, billing, documents, client communication, payments, and workflows all in one place, which helps create more consistency across the firm and a better experience for clients. It has also been helpful from an operational standpoint because the cloud-based setup makes remote work and accessibility much easier. Without Clio we would have had a really difficult time navigating the Covid years. I also think Clio does a good job with integrations. It connects with a lot of the other tools firms already use, which helps avoid having everything live in separate systems. The client-facing features like payment links, portals, and scheduling tools also make things feel more streamlined and professional for clients.

#### Cons

A few frustrations - like most platforms, it is geared toward firms that bill by the hour and we do not. Reporting is one of the weaker areas, especially if you want detailed operational data or more customized tracking. As the firm grows, you also start to notice that some workflows feel a little rigid, and there are times where you have to adjust your process to fit the system. Costs can also add up quickly once you start adding users, integrations, and additional features. Also, our initial migration did not go well, but Clio bent over backwards to remedy the situation which we greatly appreciated.

#### Reasons for choosing Clio

Clio was the most forward thinking and robust platform, open API

#### Reasons for switching to Clio

Wanted to move to cloud-based platform, TimeMatters was archiac and had no imminent plans to do so

#### Ratings breakdown

Clio was promising when we first adopted it over a decade ago. We stayed out of inertia. It was not the worst program we ever used.

#### Cons

Horribly unreliable with useless support. One benefit had been the ability to create and track notes under matters. Then today, without any warning 3 notes from 3 phone calls representing 3 hours of work disappeared. "Tech support" was a total waste of time. They had no idea why the notes disappeared or how they could be retrieved.

#### Reasons for switching to Clio

### Clio Overpromised in Australia — Still Waiting Two Years Later

Clio made big promises when they first launched in Australia — seamless integrations, automated processes, and a fully functional payment system, all supposedly ready within six months. Two years later, I’m still waiting for most of that to materialise. I feel let down by the gap between the sales pitch and what’s actually been delivered. Clio may be more developed in other markets, but in Australia, it’s been frustratingly underwhelming. If you’re based in Australia, I’d strongly recommend doing a deep dive and asking very specific questions about what functionality is actually available to you now — not what they hope to offer “soon.” The product feels unfinished in this market, and support can be slow and unresponsive.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 2/5

#### Pros

•Clean and user-friendly interface •Good for basic matter management and time recording •Secure and cloud-based, which suits remote teams

#### Cons

•Key integrations promised at sign-up still don’t exist (two years later) •Clio Payments is not fully automated — many manual steps still required •Support tickets often go unanswered for weeks •Poor accountability from support and product teams •Not well adapted to Australian legal practice needs

#### Reasons for choosing Clio

because of the promised integrations and automations

#### Reasons for switching to Clio

decommissioned system so had to leave it

### Law Office of Michael Schillinger Loving Clio

My overall experience with Clio has been positive. It provides a reliable all-in-one system for managing cases, client communication, calendaring, billing, and documents, which helps streamline daily operations and improve organization. The platform is intuitive and accessible remotely, making it convenient for both office and mobile use. While there are some limitations with customization and the cost can increase as additional features or users are added, overall it has been an effective tool for improving workflow efficiency and keeping client matters organized.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

What I liked most about Clio is its user-friendly interface and the ability to keep everything organized in one place. The platform made it easy to manage client communications, my calendar, billing, documents, and case tasks efficiently without needing multiple systems. I also appreciated the automation features, secure client portal, and the ability to access files remotely, which helped improve workflow and communication with clients.

#### Cons

What I liked least about Clio was that certain features and integrations can become expensive as your firm grows, especially when adding multiple users or advanced tools. Some customization options also felt limited, and there can be a learning curve when setting up workflows, automations, and reports exactly how you want them. In addition, occasional syncing delays or integration issues with third-party programs could sometimes interrupt efficiency.

It’s good value for the money and does what I need day-to-day. Invoicing and document management are solid, and once you get used to it, it’s pretty easy to use. Support is usually helpful, but not always quick with more complex issues. Data migration can be a little clunky, and I wish there were better team workflow options—but overall, it gets the job done.

#### Pros

What I like most about Clio Manage is having everything in one place. I can manage cases, documents, emails, and billing without jumping between a bunch of different systems, which makes my day run a lot smoother. It also keeps things organized for the whole team, so nothing falls through the cracks. It’s not perfect, but it definitely helps keep everything moving efficiently.

More flexibility in creating reports. They are working on the reporting feature, but we would love to be able to customize dashboards more easily.

I have been with Clio 16 years; we were lured away by another program in about year 2-what a disaster! I couldn't not wait to get back to Clio after that year was up. Clio successfully migrated all my info back "home".

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I've been a Clio Client since 2010. The customer support is amazing-you can imagine how many times myself and my team have had questions over the years. I started as a solo, now I have a team of 8. Easy to use, easy to train with various types of support.

#### Cons

In the earlier days Clio was not as robust as it is now. The invoicing and accounting program left a lot to be desired. Thank goodness that changed. It changed because Clio listened to their clients and made improvements.

It really has evolved since I first used it 6 years ago- love that they are constantly improving, adding new features, and are always offering opportunities for us to learn and become more efficient.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

The constant improvements, new features, response to customer ideas and suggestions- they really listen, and prompt service/inquiries response

#### Cons

Nothing I don't like- but perhaps we could have special pricing for smaller firms (1-3 people)- as opposed to having pricing for each user with additions that become available. For example, to add more than 3 courts for court rules, there is an additional cost to upgrade; or to get AI Manage, license per user- where perhaps in a small firm having a "firm" license price might be more effective.

There are many resources available online and when I find myself in a hole, I can easily search online and find what I need.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

It is very user friendly and easy to navigate. The custom fields allow me to easily add what is needed.

#### Cons

What I least like about Clio is the ability to not view custom live reports with visual graphs or charts.

I work with my client, a personal injury law firm. I do marketing emails and try to help them keep their business running smoothly and efficiently.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Clio integrates our law practice so anyone can be logged in at anytime and access a patient's file and see their medical reports and accident photos and see the client's status.

#### Cons

We didn't label all of the clients as clients when we went in so when we merged clio with a 3rd party software to send marketing emails, many insurance company contacts came up instead of only clients.

### Clio is good, but could be better

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

I really like how Clio organizes all our client information and case documents in one place. The task management is pretty solid too, it helps us stay on track with deadlines. Automating some of the basic intake forms saved us a good chunk of time when we first set it up.

#### Cons

The mobile app can be a bit clunky sometimes, especially when trying to quickly access a specific document. It's not a huge deal for day-to-day work but can be frustrating when I'm out of the office and need something urgently. Wish it was a bit more intuitive.
