Cerner’s CareTracker is a long-term care solution that enables assisted living facilities with no requirement of paper documentation.
Through iPads and touch-screen kiosks, users can collect resident data including behavior, mood and symptoms of common skin conditions. CareTracker analyzes this data and alerts supervisors to issues of declining health. It enables monitoring resident conditions and identifying residents who may be at risk of falling or who require a hospital admission. CareTracker interface provides and tracks information with pictures that specify activities of the resident to be finished for the day. It allows managers to communicate with staff on changes with resident care, in-service meetings and changes in procedure.
Caregivers use biometric thumbprint scanners or passwords for secure access to the CareTracker system and each observation is stamped with the date and time. PowerChart provides access to consolidated resident health information such as clinical data, orders and workflows.

Promising EHR, Questionable Business Practices
CareTracker is a promising EHR, but unfortunately, the company behind CareTracker could use some work. When we had first signed up for CareTracker, it was our understanding that a lot of the basic features would be included in the EHR aspect of CareTracker. Some of these basic features include sending and receiving faxes through the EHR, sending patient appointment reminders via EHR, integrating with labs to receive results, ePrescribing controlled substances etc. Once we started fully using the EHR, we found out that a lot of these basic features would cost hundreds/thousands of dollars to implement. In todays competitive EHR market, most companies include all of these features as basic features built-in to the monthly subscription cost. Because of this reason and CareTrackers unwillingness to compromise with a client that was using their Practice Management service for almost 4 years, we have decided to part ways with CareTracker in search of a better EHR system.

Care Coordination at LTC and SNFs with Caretracker
Pros
Unlike other EHR products for LTPACs, Caretracker has a uniquely fast and efficient learning curve, this is vital for a successful utilization and streamline processes of clinical documentation on a care setting where the turn over in staff can reach up to 80%, having more staff fully engaged in electronic documentation means higher accuracy and quality when charting which then translates in better care coordination, this also positions facilities in the road to interoperability which then translates in lower readmission rates, better ratings and more referrals from Acute Care Hospitals.
Cons
The price can be a little to high compared to competitors

Fantastic system to use in LTC
Pros
Very quick and easy system to learn. Simple one touch clicks to document care given to a resident. Time isnt always on your side as a nurse, having a quick system that is able to be used as a touch tablet makes it convenient to have throughout the facility.

It gets the job done!
It would be nice if there was a feature where you could select multiple people at once and chart them in the same fashion.
Pros
It is easy to do for individual charting! When needing to add personal information for each resident, it is easy to do because of how much you can personalize information.
Cons
Annoying to use for large groups of people. It is just time consuming to have to do every single person in the building.

Nice documenting tool while in facility
Pros
Pictures, and being able to see the flow of things throughout the day regarding the Patient. That really helps!
Cons
Numerous questions. I would like if there was a limited set of questions to help the documenting go faster.
