CounSol.com offers a cloud-based practice management solution that includes management tools for electronic medical records (EMR) such as client notes, insurance claims, appointments and billing. It is best suited for solo practitioners and is HIPAA compliant.

Users can configure a client web portal that allows patients to view emails from users' practices, schedule appointments, pay bills and write in a patient journal. Clients can also access online video and chat sessions with their practitioner. Clients can also receive automated appointment reminders via email, text message or phone recording.  

CounSol.com also offers configurable client forms, practice terms and policy agreements, which clients can fill out online. Billing and invoicing tools support integrations with Stripe, Braintree, BluePay, Forte, Payscape and Authorize. Users can also sync iCalendar with the calendar feature to help manage scheduling.

Pricing is per user per month. Support includes an account manager, email and phone support.

I have been using Counsol for over a year now after trying out 2 other EHRs, Therapynotes and Theranest. The features of emailing or texting my clients of their appointments and the insurance billing functions are helpful for running my practice more efficiently. The customer service is top notched and they are quick to respond to any questions that I have.

They seem to be also upgrading the software to add or modify features.

My clients have told me how much they appreciate completing the paperwork before hand also.

Cons

Interface could be better and to use their insurance billing, I had to also pay a monthly fee to OfficeAlly.

Not sure there is a perfect solution for my needs but Counsol comes close

I have done 30 day trials of several others before trying Counsol.com and a few after but I found this one to be the easiest and most complete for my needs. I also really like having the video option in the portal instead of having to have separate programs.

Pros

Options for Video sessions, secure chat and emailing. Client portal is nice and allows me to keep handouts in folders and dictate by labels what clients have access. I do different treatment groups and individuals so it is very nice to be able to have handouts and homework in folders that clients can access on the portal. Templates are very easy to create and customer support is great. They uploaded my privacy polices and consent forms so that clients could electronically sign and there is electronic intake all on portal. I like that all is included in one price.

Cons

I found the some of the functions a bit confusing to get used to and I feel like I am still figuring out the billing but I have never used billing software before so that is probably why. Office Ally is the service they use and I know it is popular and so I am sure it is more about me than the software.
I wish there was an option to do a note for groups that would go to all the group members files automatically but that may be asking too much.

Do not have to send reminders to clients daily, help with sending forms and doing billing in one place

Cons

Cons

The best part is customer service. Makes any problems I have easy to solve and customer services are super accessible.

Pros

Self contained, helps me with insurance billing making it a snap, allows me to do some documents in house

Cons

I wish I could do more with in house documents. I'd like to be able to have clients sign directly in documents so I don't have to print sign and scan, also wish there was a native app making access easier

Simply setup an account with the clearinghouse and enter account credentials into CounSol.com. Pre-populated information allows you to complete the 1500 form with ease. The platform is a real savings in my business and streamlines a lot of the work in my practice, from when I was a part-time solo practice to now being a multi-staff group practice. When other clinicians think about not taking this step, I think about the number of ways that it pays for itself - saved costs on handling billing, saved time on not handling client appointments, lowered no show rates from clients being notified, etc.

Pros

The customer service and ability to get adapted for the way you want things done is fantastic. Over the years I have been with them, this has been the case in small and large ways. The integration to be able to handle things all together, from billing to running a group practice is great. Clients appreciate the features in the client portal and I like the way I can integrate EHR features (like appointments) into other areas of my life outside of the EHR.

Cons

While having integrated online tools is a great feature and is helpful to help clients find it, there are limitations with the video platform that prevent me from recommending it as my primary video platform, although it is good enough as a backup platform. Additionally, as one of the smaller companies, there are a smaller number of colleagues to consult with compared to other EHR platforms, but that has been changing in recent years.

My overall experience has been very positive!

Pros

It has great templates for progress notes, private notes, shared notes, and client communication. In addition to the calendar, self-scheduling, and session reminders. And the ability to bill insurance through the system that is fast and efficient.

Cons

There’s still some options I haven’t figured out yet, and haven’t had a chance to ask yet.

Overall, I have no regrets and I let others know all the time that this is a solid software and customer service is very responsive. I am certain that this software has saved me time and fees for an admin, and has gained me income with the ability to integrate credit card billing. Clients have commented they like the ability to print receipts and to utilize the messaging/journaling functions. I truly like how this has transformed my practice.

Pros

I love, love that this software has helped me to create a paperless practice. I have an all-in-one software to help me with scheduling, process/progress notes, billing, and compliant messaging. My clients also really appreciate the ability to fill out paperwork in the comfort of their home and I love that I can read the intake paperwork prior to the first visit. It's a seamless process that has work well for me!

Cons

It took a little bit of time to learn the whole system and adapt it to my needs. Once I was able to customize the progress notes form and the billing function, it worked much better and saved me tons of time. It just takes time to interact and make all the software optimally functional for your practice.

I really like that this software allows me to input and use my current documents. It really makes the transition to the program so much easier when you don't have to get familiar with entirely new forms and documents. I also LOVE the appointment reminder feature. I am just beginning to use the software, but I believe that it will save me a lot of money by reminding clients of their appointments and also allowing them to cancel or reschedule. This allows me to schedule someone else in that slot. It's also very helpful that clients can go online to schedule appointments. Although I am not yet using it, I believe that clients will really love the access that they have to their records.

Cons

I honestly haven't had the software long enough to speak to any cons. I haven't noticed anything that can't be chocked up to the learning curve.

Counsol's customer service is excellent! I never have a problem getting the help that I need. They really go out of their way to take care of my needs and concerns.

Pros

Counsol grows with me. Every time I've thought of a way to change my business, it's been easy to add more functions to my system.

Cons

I think some other systems look prettier, but none of them are as functional or have as many different options as Counsol.

It is very easy to keep track of your clients, their insurance, copays, and billing. It is a software that I have recommended to many clinicians and will continue to do so as it helps a lot! It takes minutes to do billing. I am spending less time on the computer and more time with my clients which is a big plus!

Pros

CounSol helps me run my business so much easier. Billing is made to be so easy which has been a hassle in the past. Also, when I run into an issue, it is to easy to email someone for help and they are very quick with their response to help you fix the issue!

Cons

I wish the cost was slightly lower but it is a great software .

I love that everything is included- notes, automatic payments, diary,etc. I think my most favorite part is the customer support, and the one person that is assigned to my account. It has made questions and concerns so easy to manage!

Any time that I had an idea for improving the software, I could give the input, and have even seen the results!

Pros

Once I learned the format, everything felt intuitive. Whenever I came across a glitch, or a feature that I felt was missing, I could just email my customer support representative directly and he would email back within 24 hours, or less, making my job easy and reducing the amount of time I spend on hold waiting for answers!

Cons

It's not the most aesthetic layout, but that has never been my biggest priority.

It's like a personal assistant. Data entry can be time consuming however, it's worth it.

The help guide that includes pictures and narratives as a step by step process on how to do everything I need to do.

The treatment plan layout, it seems quite backwards in terms of objectives, goals and interventions.
Lacking the option to input interventions that are not listed.
The smart auto-fill, I wish there was a way to turn this feature off in the case that we would want a client to fill out the forms on our electronic devices in the office. D/t auto fill and confidentiality, this is not possible at the moment.

I really love and appreciate Counsol and have recommended it to many people. I think if you all want to stay the top option, I would suggest working on streamlining the website (my tech clients think it's clunky) and functionality.
It would be AWESOME if there was a feature where you could draw simple things and/or share screens, that would enhance therapy a lot. It would also be a huge plus if you could have 3 videos at once, making couples' therapy at a distance possible (most couples are not together at the same time, and if they are, they're going to go somewhere in person).

Pros

It combines the practice management software with the HIPAA-compliant video-conferencing which has allowed me to have an all virtual private practice. Most of my clients really love it, especially the journaling feature which allows for between-session feedback.

Cons

I think it could be more streamlined and user-friendly. It would be nice if there was a customer support for clients.

It has made managing my practice and staying current with all of my charting, etc. exceptionally easy.

Pros

I am a therapist that has been in private practice for over 25 years. I have used multiple different software programs during this time and Counsol is far and away the best one. It combines client information forms, record keeping, insurance processing, credit card payments, etc. all from one site in an easy to use format. Like any new program, there is a learning curve. Much of the program is intuitive however, and I was able to master it pretty quickly. When I did have questions, customer service was exceptionally responsive in a very timely manner and always resolved my issues. I have already referred 3 colleagues that have signed up and are using Counsol.

Cons

It took a while to master the payment portion of the program when clients overpay due to not knowing what insurance would cover. It doesn't automatically deduct the credit on their next session.
