Kareo is a Web-based EHR, medical billing, and practice management used by thousands of physicians across the United States. This system suits small practices and billing companies. With Kareo, practices can schedule patients, confirm insurance, manage delinquent accounts and the collections process, store patient documents, develop customized reports and more.

Practices can be up and running within 48 hours of signing up. The system starts at a low monthly rate with no contract, no set-up fees without the worry of maintaining and updating the software.

Program will probably be usable in a few short months if they would only listen to the MD’s but even the calls left with the CEO remain unanswered - no one cares!

Few features such as history taking are great that’s probably all that I can see in the positive column

Cons

Very disorganized , seems to have no input from practicing physicians - any suggestion remains unanswered.

We would not recommend this software.

Pros

We really can not find any pros in this software. The support is good, but this is about all of it. We are very disappointed.

Cons

It is very hard to navigate in the software. We have the feeling that we are loosing control of payments received, payments to be posted and claims to be submitted. Our business is small and we need an easy to use medical billing software that does not require to many medical billing hours. When it was introduced to us, we felt great, but have to say that we are very disappointed. Lost a lot of revenue due to difficulty of progressing the claims.

Excellent customer service. Our Client manager is quick to respond and offers timely help. Kareo billing portal is easy to use even for a not-so tech savvy person.

Cons

Kareo Engage was not very useful for my practice. I have not used Kareo EHR. Kareo billing portal frequently gets upgraded which means that we need to delete and re-install it every 2-3 weeks which is a hassle.

You get a live person anytime you need assistance. A person that speaks clear English ! Their customer service is stellar!

Cons

Might be a bit overwhelming to a small practice like ours but they cater to all needs. We are small so some items we may not use but Kareo does show you everything from point a to b on how to use to the fullest!

Kareo is super easy to get comfortable with if you’ve ever used an EHR, works in most browsers, cloud based, rarely if ever have we had a system slowdown or shutdown. The scheduler, in clinic workflow, and patient communication are really well done. ERx and direct address are well integrated. Templates are numerous and easy to build and customize. Easy to use old notes to build new ones. Very easy for non clinical staff to learn.

Cons

Using Kareo in a cash only environment isn’t the easiest. They steer you to their credit card processor and don’t really make it easy to run your own. The support is mostly responsive but can be superficial.

Overall, great EMR and PM that is manageable on a modern platform.

Pros

Integration with PM and Telemedicine platforms are nearly seamless
Support is available and always ready to setup screen share
It actually works like it's supposed to. Rarely has technical problems where this is so common with other PMs and EMRs I've used.

Cons

Like all RCM software, it has a learning curve and can be confusing at first
There are a lot of online tools that are helpful but not always introduced until you inquire about it.
Does not work on Mac OS unless you have Virtual machine - something they should mention on the sales call

In general, Kareo helps the front desk do their job efficiently and customer support is always willing to help.

Pros

I love how easy-to-read the platform is. Kareo has everything you need in a doctor's office to organize patient data.

Cons

Automatic messaging is convenient and I thank Kareo for making it easy to do so, but sometimes it may get overwhelming and may turn off a customer if done too much.

FaceSheet can not be custom arranged
Amending a note does not revise the note and label it as amended, but rather keeps original note and attaches the changes at the end.

I think they are a good program overall but i would be cautious before using them.

Pros

I felt like this company really understood how to brand, sell their product, good customer support, and had great usability. I felt like they were overall a good program and would recommend to smaller practices that are interested in building their practice and patient reviews.

Cons

I felt like the program was limited, had some bugs here and there, and was overall had the issues of new programs. I don't think bigger brands could deal with this bugs and wait through the length process to hear back from technical customer support for issues that shouldn't exist in the first place. This brand was also a little too sales focused, not genuine, which is a huge turn off for me.

It takes Care of most of our needs and is user friendly. We love the fact that Kareo listens to our needs and works on updates. Their customer service is outstanding.

Cons

There some few areas that need to be improved sooner than later.

1 -When you send a referral the demographics should be included and the options to send labs and studies.

2- when you upload results for the Dr you should be able to assigned them to the dr for reviewing and signing off on them. ( we can do labs and studies but not referrals or consuls or other important things.

3. The hospitalization and procedure section needs to be improved. Because when people get admitted to the hospital they generally have studies done and that section does not allow you to add any more than one thing per day.

4. I feel there should be a place for the hippa to be documented in the demographics sections. We currently use the note section in the demographics and document it there.

Cons

Macros were not as easy to set up as they were portrayed when purchasing the software. I spent quite a bit of time free hand typing SOAP notes where other companies had much easier forms etc.

I purchased Kareo first basically because of the price but if I had known about the poor customer support then I would have payed more money for less hassle. I ultimately cancelled the product at 2:30pm and well at 7:30pm the same day they billed me again. I called and explained my situation and well there was nothing that could be done. I would not use Kareo again under no circumstances!

Pros

The price was the only attractive aspect to the purchase.

Cons

Customer service was overall very poor.

I used it to keep patients records for some time. I learnt that it was useful only if the problems are removed.

Pros

It is available on ipad and has a web version accessible everywehre.
Relatively cheaper than the competitior (drchrono)
Was free in the past so this one is only a good feature of the past (which allowed me to test it)
I really appreciate they have finally added patient messaging improvements to the ipad version

Cons

Least things happen automatic almost everything is manual (even lacks autosave for notes)
Messyness throught the experience
only for small or medium set up so i can not recommend to the hospital because of the lack of support for cordination at such a level
Only works with online pharmacies in the US (or atleast not in the country where i work)

Having multiple Drs under one set up was originally tricky. Once I was able to get in there and move around a little I was able to do what I needed and patients have not been affected.

Pros

The reporting ability and the ease of being able to explain a balance to a patient. Scheduling a patient on the right day/time is important and being able to time block and customize for 5 Drs has been beneficial.

Customer Service reps are always there when we need them to walk us through an issue, which isn't what we always experience.

Cons

Updates can be tricky. If we had notice of exactly what pieces were being updated, it would help out quite a bit. However, updates aren't that frequent and usually its for the better.

I initially appreciated the technical support from people who cared about their product and service. Unfortunately, the most common replies to questions from I.T. were apologies for not being able to provide what customers wanted and needed the most, see below.

Cons

1. Creating progress notes frustrating. Must save notes before changing screens, otherwise all information LOST. No auto-save. Saving data prior to change in screen, must save and CLOSE the document. Multiple steps to re-open again. Always inefficient.
2. Doctorbase is an "answering device for providers" to provide caller's phone number. The glitch for NEW callers: NO NAME provided, no message recorded. 10-15 "unknown" callers by end of day: 1/2 -3/4 were salesmen or bankers wanting to give loans.
3. When I changed companies, unable to transfer data in bulk. Had to transfer every patient individually. Other companies ALL had ability for bulk transfer. Would have to transfer emails individually, all 15,000.
4. Limited & unsophisticated ability to create progress notes to limit key strokes.
5. Requesting program upgrades: infrequent, rarely helpful, never quick or responsive even for minor change requests.
6. Initial support staff NEVER heard from again. I had to sort out problems by trial and error . I had 10 years prior experience in sophisticated programs before this disaster.
7. This is only a few of the problems I had before leaving. 6 months later, I received a call from Kareo asking how I would like to improve my experience & upgrade the system. They apparently did not know I was long gone.
8. Working with pharmacies never smooth or easy.
9. Many more issues, unfortunately, that I have suppressed.

Newer use than our old one but not what our intentions and not user friendly, aesthetics could be better and better synchronization with the practice management

Pros

The scheduler is very helpful, I like that we can place a color coordination. I also like that you can view it when you hoover your mouse over it.

Cons

The view settings, you can not adjust your views. Reports are hard to set up and customize even with the Excel Ad-In.

It runs my office!

Pros

Easy to institute and learn how to use. Helps integrate website promotion as well. Cloud-based so it can be accessed from anywhere.

Cons

Takes a long time for bugs to be fixed after having reported them. This is pretty annoying, As they should be able to institute changes relatively quickly.
