# SimplePractice User Reviews

## Reviews summary

- Overall rating: 4.6/5
- Total reviews: 2,827

### Secondary ratings

- Ease of use: 4.4/5
- Customer support: 4.4/5
- Value for money: 4.3/5
- Functionality: 4.3/5

### Rating distribution

- 5 stars: 1,853 reviews (66%)
- 4 stars: 795 reviews (28%)
- 3 stars: 116 reviews (4%)
- 2 stars: 21 reviews (1%)
- 1 star: 42 reviews (1%)

### Most mentioned pros

- Calendar sync, scheduling, user friendly, payment options, Stripe integration, client portal, templates available.
- Simple Practice allows you to complete documentation very quickly and easily by toggling client information from prior notes and documentation in real time.
- They offer so many templates options for assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, polices and for so many other reasons.

### Most mentioned cons

- SimplePractice was my initial stop when looking for HIPAA compliant charting, however, as a counselor in solo private practice, it isn't the option I ended up going with due to it not being the best value for the money. If other options provide the same level of service for less money it's a no brainer.
- My biggest drawback right now is the fact that I can't create a bulk invoice statement without deleting old ones and creating new ones. Although that is something I hate I can't do, I wouldn't consider it a major issue, because this is a suggestion that has been brought to the developers of SimplePractice, and the way they continuously upgrade and make changes to meet their customer's needs, this may not be an issue for too long.
- The cost of the product, not being able to customize the forms, and the lack of control and ownership of the data.

Overall, we enjoy our work with SimplePractice and one of the most important things is ease on the client side, which is our priority. The secure messaging is a helpful tool for clients to access at any time.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

We have enjoyed the ease of use of SimplePractice, more importantly our clients have appreciated the client portal reporting how easy and user friendly it is. Additionally, the document storing has been very helpful and creating and sending our own documents. Insurance filing is easy once it is set up and makes filing and resubmitting claims much easier than other platforms. Customer support is always available and responsive.

#### Cons

I appreciate the platform, however the price is more than other similar EHRs. It makes sense for our practice due to having multiple team members, but may become to expensive if we add more people to the practice.

#### Reasons for choosing SimplePractice

Due to the reports of client ease and several colleagues reporting good experiences.

#### Cons

The messaging system could be improved as far as the screen size. I also wish it worked better with Safari/MacBooks.

#### Reasons for choosing SimplePractice

It was the easiest and most recommended by colleagues.

#### Reasons for switching to SimplePractice

I moved to private practice from a group practice.

Overall, really good. I’ve occasionally thought about changing to a less expensive EMR but generally I’ve been satisfied enough not to.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Overall, it’s a really solid EMR. I like the calendar layout; scheduling appts is extremely easy; the telehealth interface is great. Clients seem to love the reminders and generally have no issues accessing telehealth. On the whole, online payments are really easy as well.

#### Cons

The treatment plan update feature needs work. You have to pull up previous plan and edit right in the plan. It took me awhile to figure this out, and it just seems like there should be an easier, more straightforward and clinically helpful way to do it.

#### Reasons for choosing SimplePractice

Recommendations from other clinicians who had used both

My experience was great. I used it for about 6 years until the expense became too much. I loved the ease of use and the user-friendly layout, and I love the customizability.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

It’s really customizable and easy to use. I love the ability to make your own forms. So many platforms say they are customizable but they aren’t.

#### Cons

SP is incredibly expensive compared to other EHR platforms. In addition there are constantly cost raises with very little notice so you have like 30 days to decide if you accept the cost or have the time to do research and find a new platform.

#### Reasons for switching to SimplePractice

Therapy notes says it’s customizable, but it’s really not. You can just choose which of their predetermined questions go on it.

Little to no support. You can wait days for a response if any from tech support. No way to organize files. Tracking anything is a nightmare. Requests for simple changes are ignored.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5

#### Pros

It is easy to use: Billing is simple. Appointments are easy for patients. Setup was simple. The mobile app is ez.

#### Cons

In the long run it just doesnt handle what even a small practice needs. It does not manage communications, or paperwork.

#### Reasons for choosing SimplePractice

Ease of setup. Layout was simple for somebody just starting.

It’s a great tool for some, but we determined it was not the best for our company. It is expensive and the benefits did not outweigh what we were missing that other EHRs had.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

It’s amazing for practices accepting insurance from traditional insurance companies. The user interface for both the client and clinician are also amazing.

#### Cons

The reporting side is lacking compared to other EHRs for Therapy practices. There is also no way to use non-traditional insurances and still pull reports for how much that company owes.

#### Reasons for switching to SimplePractice

We wanted a more user-friendly interface for our team and for our clients.

So I signed up for this software a month ago and had fun trying it out. Everything checked out. When the trial ran out, I purchased a month for 55$ and filed an insurance claim on 2 appointment dates for a patient. Later that day, my son added his Chime account to the Online Billing setting of our control panel, and it said we were verified. The next day, we received an e-mail saying our account was "under review", and today we got notified that our account was being terminated with no refund. These people didn't even give an explanation.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

Simple layout and easy to use design.

#### Cons

### Profit First & Monopoly Goals

SimplePractice bought out my long-time EHR Luminello in 2023 and eliminated Luminello in 2024, taking over their customers. They offered Luminello customers a "special deal" with a "lower rate" for the first year. Upon looking up SimplePractice's rates on their own website, I discovered that the "deal" that they offered us was MORE than their regular rates, not a discount. They also consistently raise prices for their current customers at well above market increases and charge extra for very basic features that are included in other EHR's basic plans. I have also heard unfavorable things about their privacy practices (i.e., selling aggregate client data for profit). Finally, in 2024 they bought out Track Your Hours, including Track Your CEUs, another product that I had been using for years (for free!), and then proceeded to shut down that product as well. I assume they offer a similar feature in their EHR and did not want any competition. They seem to be trying to create a monopoly on all mental health related digital companies so that they can charge as much as they want.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

I have had multiple dealings with SimplePractice, but (to be fair to them) my ratings are not based on using their EHR, but rather their business practices. I have nothing good to say about them.

#### Cons

Their focus on profit at the expense of ethics and customer/client satisfaction.

#### Reasons for switching to SimplePractice

I was forced to make the switch from Luminello when SimplePractice bought out them out. I immediately switched to another EHR (Sessions Health), which I have been happy with (I also tried My Best Practice, but it wouldn't let me select Luminello as the product that I switched from).

I really regret using Simple Practice. It’s OK until you have a problem, and when you have a problem that is a result of a glitch in their programming, you’ll get no help for quite a while.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

It’s relatively easy of use. It is inexpensive for a sole practitioner. That is the only good thing I can say about it.

#### Cons

Its customer service is dreadful. You’ll be chatting with robots that can’t understand your question. Then you chat with a specialist who says something got fixed but it didn’t. Extremely hard to get a person on the phone, unless you are a premium customer meaning you pay extra for decent service. In the end after three hours the problem wasn’t fixed and I never got a phone call.

SP was familiar enough to TYH that it was fairly easy to get started using it. Where I ended up moving to another platform was when there was a shift in how data was going to be collected and used, and I needed a platform that was less visually distracting.
