Like all data analytics tools, you can go horribly wrong if. You have the wrong events instrumented.

It is a tool that's user friendly and allows you to personalize a lot the data you want to get and extract. The analytics results you get are really good, and the visualisation as well is great.

The pricing is really interesting and the data we're getting is the most exact we've found when compared with other solutions.

After using Matomo for over 3 years, there simply is nothing to dislike about it. Any dislike that arises would be purely because of bad hosting or bad configuration.

Not all information is transmitted by search engines, which is definetly there fault.

Recurring error while trying to update or customize the tool.

The platform has been around a long time (formerly Piwik) and has proven to be very reliable. Using the API to create custom reports is also easy and super useful.

Using Matomo, then piwik, we were able to greatly improve the responsiveness of the website and react to the user experience. It also helps in defining KPIs for our Marketing.

Overall I like to work with matomo. We own the data and the handling is easy enough.

If a page had very little access, it is difficult to find its data in the reports, as it only displays the most accessed.

Sometimes hard to find some options, the report could have more options.

It's more clear and better UX. It's open source and you can host it on your own server.

Integration with Google, Facebook & Bing Ads not ready yet (but will be released quite soon).

Many hosting companies offer a 1-click-installation for Matomo. Easy & straightforward setup.

Other than that, Matomo is a very good iff not better alternative to google's analytics and the rep.

Especially if multiple user try to evaluate different campaigns you can notice the strain on the hardware.
