Slack Software

Slack is a cloud-based project collaboration and team interaction tool designed to facilitate communication across organizations. The solution caters to various industries, including media, research, technology, education, financial services, retail, transport and logistics.

Slack provides public channels for members across organizations to start conversations. Private channels enable interaction within smaller teams, and direct channels help send messages directly to colleagues.

Slack incorporates feeds from social media into the application and blends them with ongoing conversations in various channels. Files such as PDFs, images, documents and spreadsheets can be shared via drag and drop.

Slack archives messages, notifications, files (as well as the contents of files) and projects, all of which can be searched for later. Slack allows users to customize their notifications and reduce their scope. All changes are reflected in the native applications available for iOS and Android.

Pros

Lot of little things you can do to make it really work for you, ie pin docs, send group messages, the app is solid too.
It basically kills email
I love the reminder feature

Cons

Sometimes I wish it would ask "do you really want to post this" in a multi-group channel
Easy to delete when you make a mistake - but a prompt would be nice
Stop asking me to setup G drive

Slack is very easy to use and has many features that prove to be beneficial every day. We use Slack more than email because of how easy it is and because its nice to see who's online anywhere in the business.

Cons

The user interface can be updated a little to look more modern and not so crammed. Small price to pay for such a good program.

I use slack to communicate with the tech team at my company. It is easy to use and keeps my coworkers connected.

Pros

Slack is a great way to communicate with coworkers.
You can easily ping someone for a quick question, send information by dropping it in the text box, or make a video or phone call

Cons

I have not had any problems with slack. The only issue I have found with slack is that not everyone on my company is on it. The tech team loves it, but some of the other departments prefer to message through a different system. It would be nice to all be on the same messaging system.

Pros

The functionality and integration of slack is definitely the best part about it. We can automate and streamline all communication channels we implement via slack, we also implemented bots that monitor our services and can be queried directly via the slack client.

Cons

The free tier of slack only allows up to 10,000 messages in your history to be captured which can be a nuisance if you don't keep track of your messages (we have a bot to make sure our messages get cleaned up when the channel is about to hit 10k).

Overall Slack has really helped leverage our business and keep the communication seamless among our team!

Pros

We use this product on our work computers and on mobile and love how easy it is to communicate between our team! It is easy to organize the work space via channels, which you can categorize according to the current project or business needs. You can also have a private conversation with 1 team member or multiple in personal chats. The best features are file integration in with you can load documents into the conversation or channel, each user can add their input real time and upload their work as well.

Cons

Wish the free version did not limit your number of messages, but understand why since no one would purchase the paid version if it did not.

I like how it gets our team out of their emails and all in one place. Things are quickly found by a wide range of ways to fit per user and runs laps around hunting through old email archives. Having slack on all devices is great too, plus the integrations with 3rd party apps is hard to beat. Whatever we have thrown at Slack it keeps coming back with more, so our team has been very glad we have been using it.

Cons

File management could be a little better similar to how MS Teams does it, but then again they have the power of Sharepoint behind it. The workaround for Slack is Cloud Storage integrations which work, but I would like to see some more availability for native file management. Really thats it. I've used MS Teams a lot as it has rolled out so I have suggestions for both but overall I like Slack better than Teams.

We use slack to communicate with team members and have group conversations. It's great for looking back through conversations for that piece you forgot, review a shared document or screenshot. Notifications and availability 'off network' are great, and the add-ons like 'todobot' and others are pretty well integrated. I know there are a ton of other add-ons we could be exploring but honestly with all the different tools we've used, there's a little burnout in exploring new features.

Pros

ease of use, price (free level), and functionality

Cons

It really seems like their focus is on a different user base, but the functionality is there, and it's understandable that they need to monetize.

It seems like there have been a few rounds of merging and I believe we're using Slack now because the previous two choices we went with were because of company limitations (Jira integration), and ended up on Slack because either Slack or our other platform bought the other out.

We started with one channel and a few teams using Slack as an experiment.
Within weeks, we'd sprouted channels for all kinds of projects and programs.
In a few months, everyone was using it, everyday.
And we never gave anyone a single minute of training or onboarding.
That's how intuitive it is.
Today, we work very differently than we did when email was clogging up our lives.
We make decisions faster, accelerate all projects and keep the right people in the right loops, effortlessly.

Pros

We've used about 15 different tools for collaboration — including Smartsheets, Trello, Google Docs, Basecamp, Email... you name it.

Slack is by far the most intuitive but it's also the richest, thanks to its many integrations, with things like Google Docs, Dropbox and specific departmental apps.

Cons

Can't think of anything. At first, I found the search function a bit tricky but it just took getting to know it. Now I can search really effectively with it.

The best of its kind. The most relevant "competitor" is groupme, but even that doesn't come close to the wide variety of functionality that Slack has.

Pros

The fact that it's a central application that I can utilize to communicate with all of my colleagues individually or with entire departments and subgroups in the company via channels is great.

also I love that it has a ton of integrations already made - for example I connected slack with the Hubspot Live Chat - which allow me to see when someone requires live support on hubspot.

Cons

I wish it was easier to create bots to handle certain kinds of messages.

It is best used as a chat channel with humans or as a place to integrate on the various channels your communication with devices and servers which report to you.

Pros

I love this app. I started using it as my co-op mentor used it to organize group meetings and also to private message me. After graduation, I still used it but switched workspaces entirely leaving the old behind. In Slack, I can organize projects by #channels and my @partners working on projects can chat about developments which everyone can read and importantly have a permanent record of. We integrated it with Freshdesk to ensure customer requests are handled promptly when I worked for one company and the best use is my integration with IFTTT. I had D-Link motion detector plugged in the common area as my former landlord would always sneak into our suite and I would always have a few seconds of advanced warning to put on more clothes just before he appeared. Importantly, I had a record on my #motionsenor channel that someone was creeping outside my suite usually in the early hours of the morning. Now I manage a few cloud servers and with webhook integration, they report their progress on tasks to me and all I do is sit back monitor them.

Cons

I actually do not have any issues with Slack. I use as one of my many apps that I use and may not use all the functions available and also as I am on the free plan am limited to the number of intergration with other apps that I can do.

I think it's fine but I see it confusing, if I have slack, on my pc and then I go to another pc and intalo slack, what I hope is only to be able to log in with my user and that the working groups I'm in, like in Discord, wherever you go you have your groups synchronized in your account. In slack you have to do additional steps with the mail. I do not like that

Our team is a new one. We had to look for a communications platform that is simple, free to use (or at least test), and accessible with any device (because we all work from different locations while the office is being set up). Emails are fine but having a central team chat room that with segregated topics allows for faster and more orderly coordination.

Pros

Slack has clients on all platforms. This is very important for any comms platform. And the channels are a great feature to keep topics separate even within the same group.

Cons

Pros

I collaborated with a couple handfuls of other people on a project for another start up company, and we utilized this to create group chats for designated purposes. For those of us partaking in specific parts of the project, we had chats for those specific subsets. It worked great for what we were utilizing it for.

Cons

No real complaints or cons to provide. It satisfied our needs.

I can communicate with many clients and their employees quickly and easily as well as participate in group chats and information feeds without having to have many systems open.

Pros

Right out of the box, your teams can communicate in groups and individually. Integrations are even more powerful.

Cons

Sometimes you get so excited about what it can do, you find some integration it can't do so easily. Can get a tad expensive depending on what features you need, but it can do a LOT with the free version and a TON with the first paid level. I work with several organizations and switching between orgs is a little frustrating.
