Why I use EnergyCap

Using EnergyCap has been easy to understand and easy to use.

PROS

I like everything about it. It holds our energy data. I can generate the reports we need. I like the dashboards I can share with people who need overall snapshots of our energy use.

CONS

I can't think of any. I like the way it works and it keeps getting better.

Reasons for switching to EnergyCAP

The School Dude version was older and updated less. When I found out it was EnergyCap, we went there.

Vendor Response

Wow! Thank you for the compliments. We are so glad to know that you are getting what you want and need out of the platform. And as you mentioned, we are always trying to improve, so we are glad you see that happening. Glad to have you as a customer! Thank you for your partnership.

The EnergyCAP Software Platform works for South Dakota Higher Education

Our overall experience with the EnergyCAP software platform has been very positive. We are able to collect the necessary utilities consumption and cost data without any hassle and it is easy to analyze the data on EnergyCAP and print reports detailing usage by month and/or season.

PROS

There are many things to like about the EnergyCAP software platform. What I like best about the platform is that that it supports all six of South Dakota's public universities and two special schools. Every year legislators want an understanding of what our university system's utilities consumption is and why it is the way it is. EnergyCAP provides an easy-to-use platform that captures all of our data and printing cumulative reports is easy and understandable.

CONS

Over the last three years, the South Dakota Board of Regents has had to migrate from three different EnergyCAP software platforms. in 2017 we were using version 1. In 2018 we had to migrate to EnergyCAP version 3 because they were ending support for the legacy platform. In 2019 we had to migrate to EnergyCAP version 7 because of the phase out of Flash-based software platforms. It took many of our users a lot of extra effort to learn the new software and become comfortable with it.

Reason for choosing EnergyCAP

The EnergyCAP team of employees, from the account management team to the technical assistance folks, are all very knowledgeable and friendly. We have never had to wait longer than 24-hours for a response from the representatives of EnergyCAP when we have reached out with a question or problem.

EnergyCAP and Understanding your data

I am happy using EnergyCAP. I have learned so much about our energy because of the data mining I can do with EnergyCAP. I like being able to provide our engineers with the data they need to support energy improvement projects, and all we have to do is a quick query.

PROS

EnergyCAP helps our team with invoice tracking and verifying if the invoices are "in line" with historical use so that we can assess the invoice appropriateness or look for reasons we might be seeing a spike. We use the queries to track energy consumption and to help with budget management. I appreciate the weather normalization features so we can easily compare year upon year of energy use, despite weather variances. The reports are customizable. We can add and track custom meters not typically associated with utilities, such as permitting fees etc.

CONS

The program takes a moment to learn to navigate: Learning the differences between the modules and how they function together. Learning how to correctly write queries will unlock the potential, but those can be tricky, as in any database program. Overall, I really cant imagine trying to manage as much data as we do without EnergyCAP.

There is tons of information available but knowing where to find it is not always easy.

I used as different version of ECAP prior to the version I use now but after a training session, tech help to navigate through the changes and the use of a cheat sheet to convert old bill codes to new bill codes I find it easier to gather data. There are many more options. I think on going training that builds upon what you know woils be helpful.

EnergyCAP has launched the City of Philadelphia into a new sphere of data processing power.

PROS

EnergyCAP has many tools to help organizations in various ways. Philadelphia has multiple utilities that are localized, as in, not spread through the country. With that said, we most like the reporting functions, ability to see use and cost quickly, great customer service, ability to easily share data with internal AND external stakeholders, EnergyCAP brings data to life with customizable reporting and dashboards, it works with Portfolio Manager to benchmark buildings more quickly, the ability to change hierarchies or move data within the organization quickly and efficiently with setup sheets, it has open API to communicate with other software in the City, and EnergyCAP uses Bill CAPture, which is a service that uploads bills into EnergyCAP. EnergyCAP has given our team more time to work on other projects using the data rather then spending time manipulating the data in spreadsheets or another cumbersome process.

CONS

The City of Philadelphia has carbon goals to reach. Tracking greenhouse gases is a core part of reaching those goals and the City has been tracking GHGs for more years than has used EnergyCAP. EnergyCAP does track GHGs, but it is EnergyCAP's calculation. If the City uses that calculation, the emissions change. To maintain integrity of the trends, the City has opted to continue to use a separate calculation to report GHG emissions.
