### About Google Voice

Google Voice is a cloud-based business phone system that provides users with a unique contact number to receive international calls, send text messages and transcribe voicemails, streamlining communications across the organization. The application allows businesses to centralize activities such as number assignment, porting and billing on the G Suite Admin console.

Key features of Google Voice include usage reporting, call forwarding, private branch exchange (PBX) and contact management. It comes with an automated attendant, which lets users transfer calls to other extensions without requiring an intermediate operator. Additionally, users can configure system settings to automatically block spam calls and manage text messages across various devices.

Google Voice facilitates integration with other applications of G Suite such as Hangouts Meet, Google Calendar and more. Pricing is available on monthly subscriptions and support is extended via phone and other online measures.

## Google Voice Pros and Cons

We analyzed 725 verified reviews for Google Voice to find out what actual users really think.

Select to learn more

Easy Virtual Number Setup

You can create a separate business or personal phone number, port existing numbers, and manage multiple lines across devices. Google Voice helps maintain privacy, lets you choose local area codes, and keeps calls organized without needing a landline. It’s useful for adding lines for employees and keeping work calls distinct from personal ones.

Flexible Call Management Options

Google Voice lets you mask your real number, set business hours, and screen calls with caller ID. You can route calls to multiple devices, record calls, and make free or low-cost calls in the US and internationally. These features help keep business and personal calls separate and give you control over how and when you’re reached.

Transcription And Access Anywhere

Google Voice transcribes voicemails to text and sends them to your email, making it easy to read messages without listening. You can customize greetings, access voicemails from any device, and manage missed calls efficiently. These features help save time and keep records organized for both personal and business use.

Unreliable Message Alerts

Notifications for messages can be delayed or missed, and users sometimes don’t receive texts or alerts at all. The app struggles with MMS, lacks automatic responses, and doesn’t always indicate message status. These issues can cause missed communications and frustration when managing messages.

Inconsistent Audio And Reliability

Call quality can be unreliable, with frequent dropped calls, poor audio, echoing, and connection issues. Users report missed or lost calls, glitches during calls, and problems when forwarding calls. These interruptions make it harder to maintain clear conversations, especially for business calls.

Limited And Slow Assistance

Users often find customer support unresponsive and difficult to reach, with no live or one-on-one help for service issues. Slow response times and lack of technical support make resolving problems challenging, especially for business users who need quick solutions.

A great tool for small businesses that need an extra line

Overall, I have been happy with Google Voice and its capabilities. While our team only uses the service for a second line at present, it does the trick for them and has not failed us yet.

Pros:

Voice is very easy to implement and deploy. We have been using Voice as a second line for our team for quite some time now. The ease of using the app or website is great and not having to purchase a separate subscription or set up a new service is awesome.

Cons:

Call quality can be a little hit or miss with Google Voice. While we generally have no problem with the service, it can vary greatly depending on the quality of the cell/WiFi network that is being used. This is sort of par for the course with VOIP services however and to be expected.

Reasons for choosing Google Voice

Cost, mainly. Since Google Voice is free with a regular Gmail account, we decided to use it instead of paying extra for an additional service.

Excellent Business Phone Line

4

It has been very good. Sometimes I answer and the call drops or it is quiet for a little bit and then the call drops but when I look into the number, it is a spam caller anyways. When there is a person trying to get ahold of my business, I am always able to talk to them or they leave a message.

Pros:

I use this as my business line since I work from home and only have a cell phone. But now I am able to have an office line to receive phone calls and texts at no extra cost. The transcript feature is really nice, so if anyone leaves a voice message, I also receive an email with a written transcript. It doesn't always make sense but it is nice to see the email first if I can't get to listening to the message for a while.

Cons:

For what I need it for and how I use it as a business phone, I have not run into any problems or things I don't like.

Reasons for choosing Google Voice

I choose Google Voice because it is free. Most or I think all of the other options I looked into have a price associated with them.

Google Voice is not for small-ish businesses

2

My experience with Google voice was a learning experience. I really was able to see that I needed more from my phone/voip service and although Google voice was efficient, inexpensive, and easy to use.. the lack of toll free numbers, lack of 911 calling, dropped/intelligible calls, inaccurate/unavailable caller id and lack of customer service made it easy for me to start outsourcing other options.

Pros:

What I really like the most about this software is how inexpensive it was to try it out which was 10 dollars a month for user and up to 10 users and I was allowed to upgrade as I saw it to the next level which was standard which is a $20per month per user. I also enjoyed how I transcribed voicemails and especially the goggle voice app that it's available to download so that we can stay connected while while on the go.

Cons:

I really don't like how many dropped calls my employees and I experienced as well as the lack of 24hr live customer support.

Reasons for choosing Google Voice

I chose Google voice over open phone due to familiarity with Google products

Google voice is a great option for employees who don't want to give their personal phone number away in the course of business and don't have access to a work phone number.

Great Tool For Concealing Your Real Number But Still Allowing You To Get Calls and Texts To Your Real Phone

I really enjoy Google Voice. It values privacy and doesn't require you to share your real phone number with someone you want to set boundaries with or if there is a power imbalance.

Ratings Breakdown

5

Ease of use

5

Functionality

Pros:

It allows you to create a second phone number and tie it to your personal cell phone so that you can avoid giving your real phone number out when you only need to communicate with someone briefly. Additionally, it is very easy to delete and unlink the number to your phone when you no longer need it.

Cons:

Sometimes, the area code of your number isn't the same area code you are residing in. This makes it harder for people to believe that is your real number. Additionally, it isn't always clear how you are charged for using your Google Voice number.
