Gather is a cloud-based event management solution primarily designed for the needs of restaurants and other small and midsize enterprises in the hospitality industry. The system helps business owners streamline their event booking workflows, from initial inquiry to event execution.

This platform offers features such as automatic mobile notifications and updates that allow owners to track staff schedules and event activities. A shared calendar and team messaging functionality allow teams to coordinate and collaborate from anywhere.

Gather helps increase leads with an embeddable booking inquiry widget to automatically gather leads any time of the day or night. Response times are reduced with capabilities such as digital proposals and e-signing. The system enables business owners to keep track of their leads through its lead-routing functionality.

Gather guarantees compliance with PCI standards for online payment collection and also meets IRS standards for auto-gratuity.

Lacks Many Qualities for a Large Venue.

Only use if you are a one room venue.

Pros

Easy to read, cloud based. Thats really about it but this line has a minimum of 100 characters needed to submit.

Cons

This product is made for a restaurant. It DOES NOT support a large venue. You cannot make any specific modifications to the program for your venue. Reporting is poor and only exported into excel, cannot hold space for multiple rooms in multiple time frames under one booking, reads military time, cannot print an invoice for multiple bookings, cannot enter a percentage discount, support says they will bring up issues to team, but rarely resolve anything.

Potentially a good product but they lie to you to get you in and then don't follow up on their promises. Not to mention the software is lack luster.

Cons

Little to no customization. Support is completely non-existent and the software is buggy. They sell it well but won't let you see under the hood with trials. The sales person promised me that I could try it out and they would refund the full years payment if it wasn't a fit. I tried it our within the first week and realized it wasn't a good fit and then they said they couldn't refund us!! They sales guy even admitted he promised me but said I signed a contract! Wow. They refused to respond to my emails about the issue. Since then I tried using it but the features are so lame it creates more work. Stay away!

I don't recommend this product if you're a large company or if you do any business at off-site venues.

Pros

Our clients love how professional Gather looks. We get a lot of compliments, from clients, on how easy it is to use.

Cons

Unfortunately there are just so many issues... We're an off site catering company and it appears that this product is more of an "in-house" program for on site/private dining... They knew this when they sold us the program and should have realized they were not for us...

Most important was the fact that our invoices weren't adding up correctly; had we not manually added them up we would be out of thousands of dollars. There is no where for our clients to confirm their contact info (phone, address), not efficient when booking a high volume of events. The zip codes for our clients, on the BEOs, default to our zip code; so we have to go in and manually write the client's zip code on every BEO so that our delivery drivers don't get lost.... We've spoken to them several times and yet no one can seem to correct a zip code. There is no way to enlarge the font, when doing several events it's hard for kitchen staff to see the menus.

The support team is very polite but can't ever really answer a question. They respond with "we'll mention this at our next meeting"...

Extremely bad customer service, buggy software

Even though we gave them notice of cancellation after about 9 months they have twice charged our card for renewals which are not valid.

Pros

Generally the contract feature was fine. We liked executing contracts on line even though the contract tool did not have all of the client info required

Cons

Regarding our disappointment with Gather I would point to the following – all of which I have reflected to your support people and none of which have been acted on:

Your IOS app seems to be able to send messages to clients and it does seem to be able to send templates but not free-form messages. Yet it often leads the user to believe a message has been sent when it has not
About 45 days ago new inquiries stopped showing up in your new messages list – your support people insisted this was not a change but it was. It seems logical that new leads would be the most important new messages
I asked you to make all the numbers and metrics on your Home page hyperlinked, but you have not. If I see I have two new leads I can click on that number and it takes me to the new leads. If I see I have one new contract signed, the numeral “1” is not hyperlinked and I have to search for the new signed contract.
It is difficult or impossible to add a second client contact name but in the wedding business it is pretty normal to have at least two client counterparties. Yes I know about the “onsite” contact but that is not a default email recipient. Look at the confusion that appears in some proposals.
Your proposals are not properly itemized and clients do not seem to notice that I have attached a “BEO” which is not a term I could define for you. Look at both “xxx” and “xxx” as examples of proposals where they thought we got the price wrong but they don’t see the security deposit because it is not itemized in the proposal.
It is completely ridiculous that the client could sign an e-contract without being forced to enter and validate their address, phone, full and correct name, etc. Our normal course is we get a contract signed and then we chase down the additional information required to actually have a contract with the Zenith Additional Information form. This is cumbersome and probably not legally defensible. I want the client to execute the contract having filled in and validated their complete contact info

After 2.5 months of working with Gather

Gather is a program with a great deal of potential, but lacking terribly in the follow-through at this time. While I was sending numerous emails asking to be granted permission to view reports on transaction fees and getting no response, they released a new logo and website design. And then when I asked them to enter recurring calendar event data on their event, which they had promised to do before we purchased the program, they responded by saying they won't do this for us any longer and we'll need to enter everything manually from here on out. At this time, it appears they're busying themselves with esthetics and letting consistency, agreements, and customer-care fall by the wayside.

Pros

The ease of scheduling and incorporation of invoicing is really wonderful. Also, the first month of customer service is superb.

Cons

The inquiry/"lead" forms are not customizable, the customer service drops off dramatically after a month of partnership, we primarily work with recurring events and they do not have any accommodating features for this. So, we worked out an agreement of sending in the data so they would enter it and decided to purchase the program, after a month and a half we were told they would no longer honor this agreement with us, without any warning or consideration. I also repeatedly requested access to financial reports regarding transaction fees and was dropped from conversation twice until I sent an email to a number of different departments and department heads, after which is was taken care of immediately.

Cons

The entire system is very user friendly. However, I do wish there was a different way to configure the calendar. Like a three month snapshot.

Gather simplifies my life

Pros

Intuitive software with the best support in the industry. New features added all the time. The Gather team listens to their customers and they adjust on the fly. I save minutes of my day every time I use this software's features. What could be more important than that.

Cons

When I changed over to Gather Software, I abandoned my old system which was a box of files in the back seat of my car. The box is still there. I wish Gather could clean my car. I am working up the nerve to call Gather Support and ask them.

From the customer/client experience, it's wonderful. Great, professional design, easy to review contracts/policies, make payments, and correspond with questions. From the admin perspective, I like that it keeps me organized. There are so many moving parts to events and it's so nice to have everything organized in the calendar, have each event represented, and every event have it's own page to store details, connect with the client & staff, track & collect payments, create and send policies to review, request payments (can be custom or based on pre-set pricing menus), and store details for your team and/or the client (i.e. event floorplan, vendor info, etc). Gather's customer support has also been amazing! They always respond to questions in a timely manner and provide webinars on a consistent basis as well.

Cons

It's pretty complicated to use and takes quite a bit of training, which can make it hard to collaborate or inform part time staff or contractors on event details (or have them help with invoicing, scheduling, etc). There is also not an ability for clients to "sign" contracts, only approve proposals. For an industry that can be pretty litigious, I wish they emphasized their event policies a bit more.

Having one place for all of the events to live.

Pros

Gather offers users the ability to easily organize a vast majority of events that otherwise can become overwhelming. Being able to process payments on Gather is the BEST feature. It promotes a feeling of professionalism for the guest.

Cons

It could be a bit more streamlined, it requires some clicking that to get to new pages that could be eliminated. To be honest I am not crazy about their new branding, the symbol does not translate for me to something that makes sense.

I like how organized the booking process and BEO templates are. Gather essentially provides a fail-proof checklist of each element of our events. I like how my clients can see the updates to the event plan at anytime so we are always on the same page.

Cons

I wish you could easily edit each contract for individual events instead of having the same one for all.

TIME! I have recommended this product to at least 4 companies and I know two have signed up. The benefit I get is that my guests can see their proposal in real time and it's speedy so contracts can get signed quickly.

Pros

I love how user friendly this software is and how it is so easy to navigate. I like how we can generate a report with multiple pages at one time. The filtering options make it very convenient for me to review each of the restaurants at a single time.

Cons

It's a small thing...but when I am in a booking and I want to change some contact information on a booking contact, I have to go to another screen, which is fine, but I can't go right back to the booking I was working on. I have to find the booking again in the big list. BUT, everything else works so great for us.

Simple is genuinely better. The ability to create your own menu fast is a perk. Gather is an easy way to update your menus

Cons

When there's a "bug" and it takes a week to fix it. There was an incident that happened where I was unable to use my calendar for a moment. Although I was given an alternative way to work through it, it was a blessing when I was able to retrieve function.

I like how I can quickly send out information, from a lead to sending a contract-the templates are the best and saves so much time, which is critical in a competitive market.

It is very user friendly-even for those without a lot of computer experience.

Cons

I wish they had automatic reminders-but they are getting there! Reports sometimes do not seem 100% accurate but I mainly use the sales and leads reports the most.

I absolutely love the ease of use of the software. Very simple and straight forward with design. The ability to communicate with your client and show them itemized statements, contracts, menus, & room items is so convenient.

Cons

I dislike that there isn't a room layout function. Additionally, I wish there were an option to classify users. For example "Kitchen/Chef" they only need to see the items directly related to their function on the system. They have no business seeing financials or anything else of a particular event.

My favorite part of Gather is the centralized source of information. The entire team has access to communication with the client. The client has up to date access to menus, details, and financials. The team can communicate within each event. The leads form, booking templates, email templates, and generated documents look sharp and make my job a million times easier. There are so many new features since we began with Gather in 2014 and it just keeps getting better.

Cons

The one thing that would be nice is to have a backlog of changes on proposals. Sometimes things get changed accidentally or the client wants to go back to a previous version proposal and I can't access it.

organization and the ability for anyone in my company to edit, make notes, check something for a client if I am out

Pros

being able to go back with ease and see all the clients past events here and easily rebook without having to put it all in again. I also really like the way the leads are laid out so I can scan the list and easily find and filter I get a lot of calls so its nice to be able to pull them up fast

Cons

I would like to have a place if there is more than one person as the contact on the event so I can look it up under either name
