### Has made it easier to sync files and share them with customers.

- Overall rating: 4/5
- Reviewer: Marek R.
- Verified reviewer: Yes
- Industry: Computer Software
- Company size: 501-1000 employees
- Product usage: Used daily for more than 2 years
- Reviewed: May 2025
- Review source details: This reviewer was invited by us to submit an honest review and offered a nominal incentive as a thank you.

Our efforts to improve project collaboration have shown impressive results. Fixing synchronization issues and searching for data across several servers used to take up a lot of our work. Lucidlink has made everything organized and accessible from any location. As part of our process for generating large-scale projects for important clients, we utilized it to share massive design files with our marketing team and external partners. With real-time file access and updates, the review and approval process became more easier.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

It took too long to access and share massive files; there were regular issues with downloads and synchronizations; our design files are typically big and spread out across multiple servers; and there were continual problems with file synchronization and sharing with external clients and collaborators. With LucidLink, we can keep working as a local unit while still using our regular apps and processes. The opportunity to collaborate in real-time has increased both our productivity and creativity. It has been a lifesaver for our team, particularly when dealing with large design files.

#### Cons

Many clients were still concerned about the security of their cloud-based projects, even though LucidLink had strong security measures in place, such as zero-knowledge encryption. To ensure the safety of their data, we had to work closely with them to explain the security procedures that were put in place.

#### Vendor response

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback! We're so glad LucidLink has helped your team collaborate more easily on large design files and boosted both productivity and creativity. Security is a top priority for us, and we appreciate your efforts in helping clients understand the protections in place. Great to hear LucidLink has made such a difference in your workflow!

### Excellent concept, impractical in real-world performance, misleading marketing

- Overall rating: 3/5
- Reviewer: Trevor P.
- Verified reviewer: Yes
- Industry: Media Production
- Company size: 11-50 employees
- Product usage: Used daily for free trial
- Reviewed: February 2024

I want to love and use Lucidlink but continue to run into the same issues whenever I try it out (again and again). I appreciate the concept and hope to see things continue to improve. Great product, but not compatible with our needs and use cases. Same goes for competitive products like Suite Storage.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

I love the idea of having a single source of truth for a "cloud NAS" that is easily accessible to anyone with an internet connection. The user management and product setup are very clean and well done.

#### Cons

Marketing "without ever downloading" is completely misleading and false - data has to upload and download to be viewed and "streaming" is not practical in many workflows. When working with professional media files (RAW, R3D, ARRI, etc) that are very large (80 - 400 GB per file), it's very convenient to have the files in one place, but they will need to get downloaded at some point. The "streaming" functionality of lucidlink does not perform well working with high resolution/data rate files even in a 1 Gb - 10 Gb synchronous fiber internet connection, not to mention a typical consumer internet connection. It is what it is. Proxy workflows and strategic pinning of data is the solution but can require large local storage to accommodate working with single files over 250 GB each. Pricing is prohibitive vs. alternative workflows.

#### Reasons for choosing LucidLink

I didn't choose LucidLink. We opt for iconik, Wasabi and Resilio.

#### Vendor response

Thank you Trevor for your candid feedback. This is an essential part of how we improve every day. And if testing LucidLink as part of a trial fell short of expectations, we want to know about it. Ultimately, eliminating the need for downloading is at the heart of our mission. That’s more than just marketing: it’s in the design of our product. Without a doubt, working with professional camera formats can be a challenge. Large-raster frame sizes, complex video codecs with high bit rates, both intraframe or GOP, carry the potential of placing strain on your choice of storage. To help address these issues, we hope you tried our Pinning workflow to get the best possible experience with LucidLink. Pinning doesn't create a duplicate copy, allowing the continuation of collaborative flows and eliminating any security concerns. We would welcome an opportunity to connect with you and field any other questions you may have, or provide clarity on anything else that you found disappointing.

### Long time caller , first time clouder

I was skeptical at first , however our in house server was getting older and we do not have full time IT in house. We had already gone to higher speed router and cards in every computer and even in our qnapp nas we had a hard drive fail. So getting the It guy to come out was getting more and more as the system got olderWe also were near our total capacity with teh NAS. We would have had to buy a larger matching set of drives to refil the exisitng nas or think about a seperate nas intergrated in , Backups were getting done regulary , so that took up space . And then there needs to be more maintance to the files as we grew in people and amount of jobs we do. Bim files are huge and its hard to call how much we would need upfront, WE could vpn in , but it seemed pretty slow in comparison to lucids connections with the same internet connections. i am a old school engineer, i like to have the files in my hands just in case , its just a old way of thinking . I was the IT guy 25 years ago when we got started and like 10 years go it got to be to much for me to design engineer nad handle the upgrades and keep up with the industry bereak though and they did not pay me to do all of that . The design engineering work loads grew and i had less time, Wehn we went to utlziing a dns server and more big industry type of server ways, iu was nto trained in that . I have been on computers since 808 computer long before the internet was available to the main public , when something went wrong with the virtual server or within the system , i could figure it out but it was slow going and took more time then i wanted to spend. NOw we ge ta new person we can easily simply assign them name and password and give them rights to only certain place s, i dont have to check the vmware updates or if the server went down at night com ein to make sure it all booted correctly .+

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I like that we can link anywhere and all our engineers work from the same drawings. Its important to our final plans that each discipline is using the same backgrounds . I like that its very much like we had our inhouse server with the different drives per year, and when we transferred over making folders with the drive names kept our hard paths in autocad generally ok even for our oldest drawings

#### Cons

Not many things I really dont like. Being new to this type of cloud server, i am still learning how to best use it. I didnt do our set up . However i think i would have named our folder different , easier , its hard to reemmber our filespace name. I am still looking for the best way to keep the file space server easier to find on my windows machine. I have it favorites and i have it again in another location within the windowsl 11 space. I am always looking for where it is , thast probalby my least favorite thing. We used to find it captured all under network, you could have short cuts to it , but under network it kept it isolated and easy to find . We kept a new drive letter per year and could map those drives with letters just like regular hard drives. That was not the best cause i have been here 25 years and we used a nas only the last ten of them. We soon ran out of drive letters to hard path everything. Its usually fast here and in autocad you download it and work on it , it only needs to upload or download during the save and opening process. Our fphoens are all foice over Ip and once ina while our internet does go down , so wehn we had it here on our server we could still draw and design just no phones . now if the internet goes down we are done working it seems until it comes back on. We still have our nas , i am not sure how that would work but if we could get a auto download of a few drives to keep us working on them when down and when it comes back up get those to upload to lucid and switch us over to working from the cloud. Cause when you got 20 engineers here working and then there is no file service its very awkward and production just stops. There maybe some work around on this but we are new to this service and maybe we are not using it optimally.

#### Vendor response

Fairly easy to use, and get user adoption. Once you get past the setup phase with users, most find it fairly easy.

Constant updates that require teh end user to be a local admin to run. (mostly an issue on Mac devices for us) I also wish we could auto-expire local index files when a user does not connect often enough.

#### Vendor response

Thanks for sharing your feedback. We’re glad to hear that you and your users have found LucidLink easy to use and adopt. We hear you on the constant updates and the need for admin privileges, especially for Mac users. We’re actively working on improving the update process to be more seamless, with the goal of reducing disruptions for end users. I've watched LucidLink evolve over the years as we were one of their first customers, then it's the gold standard to be able to collaborate. We have writers, producers, editors, ae's, graphic designers, all being able to live life as is they are back in the office, navigating through explorer/finder windows in order to build a tv series together. It's FAST, it's Easy, and if you're on a proxy workflow, feels like you're editing off of a server down the hall.

#### Pros

What I like most about LucidLink is the seamless ability to manage projects and work with diverse collaborators remotely. The platform's interface stands out for its simplicity and user-friendliness, making it incredibly easy to onboard new users. This ease of use ensures that team members can quickly adapt to the system and focus on their tasks without being bogged down by a steep learning curve. Additionally, the real-time collaboration features allow for efficient communication and workflow, enhancing productivity and making it feel as though we are working in the same physical space, even when we are miles apart.

#### Cons

One of the main drawbacks I've encountered with LucidLink is the issue with updating the application on the day new updates are released. This has caused some disruptions to my workflow. Additionally, I frequently face network problems that require more technical knowledge than an average end-user might possess. These issues include PIN problems and intermittent connection losses. Despite these challenges, I must commend the support team, as they are always quick and efficient in resolving any issues I encounter.

There isn't much not to like here. If there was one thing, and this isn't even on LucidLink themselves, it is finding a suitable cloud provider to host content. Lucid offers a few and you have to REALLY ask some tough questions to determine if the Tier 1 or Tier 2 storage is right for your needs.

#### Vendor response

We're thrilled to hear that our platform has met your expectations and provided the long-awaited solution for remote editing workflows! ### Rock solid and simple file sharing solution for everyone

Our experience with LucidLink has been excellent. Their support staff has been incredibly responsive and proactive in helping us. We have seen steady refinements to the user experience and the core service has remained a solid solution for our file storage/sharing needs.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

LucidLink allows our company to combine all the benefits of cloud-hosted storage with the ease of a mapped drive on our machines. We use the LucidLink client on Mac, Linux and Windows 10 to share media files between editors and other staff. The initial setup was straightforward and our users were able to install the client on their own machines without any assistance. There have been no problems with the LucidLink client and we've seen a steady stream of improvements to the user interface and ease-of-use in the admin tools. When we had an issue with a specific Linux distribution, the support staff went to great lengths to help me troubleshoot and address the issue. We use LucidLink to connect to our own Wasabi storage buckets and it has proven to be an affordable and reliable answer for our video and podcast production workflows.

#### Cons

In recent months there have been improvements to the granularity of admin controls. During our initial implementation, there were some limitations in how I was able to assign permissions, but the LucidLink team has been steadily improving in these areas and we are preparing to take advantage of the new options.

#### Reasons for choosing LucidLink

We chose LucidLink primarily for it's cost-effectiveness per terabyte of storage. It beats out cloud services like Dropbox and Google Drive on price and ease of use.

My experience with LucidLink has been exceptional. Not only is the product a lifesaver and timesaver, but the support staff constantly surpasses expectations. Even on lower priority tickets I've submitted, the tech department gets back to me and helps me quickly resolve my concerns. They're patient, knowledgable and always helpful. And so fast!

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I've been really happy with how LucidLink speeds up our project collaboration and team collaboration. It makes it so our team of editors can work anywhere in the world. It also helps with revisions - if an editor is out or sick and a revision request comes up, a different editor can step in and finish the ask. No need to download and upload files just to work or collaborate. No need to wait for a different editor to get back to their desk to share a project file. It's all there and all accessible 24/7!

#### Cons

This has since been resolved, but the installation process for LucidLink Classic was a nightmare on a Mac. There were many specific things that needed to be done to allow Lucid the permissions it needed to function as it was intended. Now, however, the new LucidLink installs quickly, easily, and efficiently.
