Simple and Effective
From our initial contact with, to the implementation of, to the daily use of GigaTrak, we have had no issues. Everyone at GigaTrak has been responsive and helpful. Everyone at our company has positive things to say about GigaTrak, especially compared to ToolWatch which we were using before.
PROSThe program is very user-friendly. We have warehouse workers, administrative workers, and high level workers using this program, and it is easy for everyone to learn and understand. It only takes a second to figure out where a tool is. It also is very easy to move tools around. The best part is all of the pre-populated reports. They have all the detail we need to track our tools.
CONSThe only thing I can think of, is it would be nice to be able to create a location from the Check In/Out screen rather than having to exit out, go to location administration, add the location, then go back and check the tools in/out.
Reasons for switching to GigaTrak Tool Tracking System
ToolWatch kept adding more and more features that we didn't need. We still had to pay for them, though, and the cost went up 300% in a year.

Not intuitive
Still trying to deploy the system after having it for 4 months - thought it would be fully operational by now. Parts of the system is hard to understand - there has to be a master set up which should be able to be turned off if there is only one location. Projects should not need to be assigned bar codes - should be able to use initials since people in the field will not have a sheet for project bar codes.
PROSUploading a photo of the tool is easy so long as you have the bar code of the tool.
CONSIt is not user friendly for a small company to implement and use.

Thanks for the review Barb! I know initial system setup can be a pain sometimes but after it's done, you will be happy to have a system that has all of your information in a digital format. Master templates are not required for every tool as they are optional. Also, any set of characters can be used as a Jobsite barcode! So if you want a jobsite barcode to be AF, you can do that! It has been a good experience thus far, however I am still the only one that uses the system because of how cumbersome the software can be with regards to access and digging up information (good job security I guess). Overall this system has added value to our operations at marginal cost.
PROSI like the high level overview of all the gear, and the features to track gear metadata and maintenance records. Without these features we would be reliant upon excel and would have a complicated endeavor to integrate these features into 1 cohesive system.
CONSI dislike how many iterations and passwords I need to enter into the system. I dislike that I need to be logged into the system in order for the automated emails to work. It is in my work scope to eventually pass this system off to an administrator, however I foresee challenges with that due to the amount of facets there are to maintain this system. However there is a learning curve to any software so that's not a huge problem.We frequently buy new gear, and there is meta data associated to that gear that is crucial to job requirements and quoting. I dislike how I do not have options to see the culmination of that metadata (i.e. the user defined fields). So currently I have to enter into each tool specifically, navigate to the page with the metadata, and log that information manually. Why can I not select the class of tool and specify the metadata I need to export en masse?

A no-brainer & necessary for factual / knowledgeable business decisions
Overall, its phenomenal. The most difficult part is understanding the flow and why it works the way it does. Much like driving a car, once you understand it's operating characteristics, it's as easy as a couple clicks of the mouse.
PROSIf you want to make smart business decisions, the number-1 thing you need is data. Factual evidence to support your goals & motives. Gigatrak helps to provide that data, showing what your assets are doing. It gives you the who-what-when-where-how-why, and implements that data over time, providing you with the evidence based practice information needed to make solid decisions. It can apply to your fleet, tools, even consumables. You can find ways to cut costs and increase profitability through proper reinvestment. The possibilities are near endless. As long as you get the right people, and get them trained in Gigatrak's usage well, it will absolutely be one of the best decisions you can make and implement.
CONSThe cloud software, while excellent still, can be troublesome for intranet/internet balancing with internal networking. Internal servers will need special permissions and routing to accommodate filing and remote desktop usage. Its great but can be an extra unforeseen expense from your tech team.

Fast and easy set-up. Support is done in the US and they take the time to explain what is going on.
The overall experience with has been perfect. We got to speak to the same person when we had questions on the software. She was well spoken and knew her job without sending us to some one else. Not a company that were they sell you the product they forget about you. They were their from start to finish.
PROSI like the ideal that we got a clean inventory of are shop. It made it easier to spot check what is on a job site. Also are driver and shop foreman like the ideal they can move check-in tools from one job site and re check the out to another site without returning to the shop.
CONSI would like to have a way of changing the network password (not the login password).

Great asset tracking program!

CONSThe tool transferring is a bit involved, but not bad.

Customer service team is amazing and helpful.
PROSI love this system. It works so well for how we use it. I am able to find "mistakes" made by other users fairly easily.
CONSNeeds CUSTOMIZED REPORTING and ADMIN EDIT capabilities!! These two features would tip the scales for this product. The standardized reports aren't ever exactly what I need them to be, so a filter feature or drop down selection of what I want to see would be amazing. Also, when my team makes mistakes, it would be much more efficient to allow me (the administrator) to be able to just "edit" those mistakes (or even delete the transaction so I can recreate it correctly). This feature should only be for the admin though to avoid misuse.

Giga Trak
This is a great tool to use to run reports to see when tools are or who they are checked out to. We also track a lot of information with our vehicles, and this is very helpful, so we don't have to have several different software packages.
CONSIt is time consuming to get set up, but once it is set up it is so easy to use. I am sure that there are features that i haven't even touched on yet.

Gigatrak is very useful to track equipment location for 5000 pieces of test equipment.
Overall, this is a great tool to keep track of test equipment and have recommended for other departments.
PROSEase of use - Engineers can easily check in/out equipment.
CONSThere were dificulties getting the system to work withing BSC because of it being a cloud based system - BSC has very tight IT securities.

Honest review
For the most part it’s a great addition to companies that have lots of tools and equipment they want to track and schedule maintenance on.
PROSWe use this daily to check in and out tools to crews, employees, and locations. We also assign barcodes to employees and our fleet of trucks.
CONSYou have to purchase a device liscence for every device used. So the individual employee can’t just use their cell phone to check in or out tools

Inventory
I do like that the system makes issuing and receiving equip quick and easy, I am able to pull up an item or group to see what's on the shelf to what's in the field, who has what.
CONSI do find the system too difficult to work as has too many functions that are not aligned, such as Cat to tools to Check in/out when trying to find or issue equip there is an requirement to switch back and forth.

i feel like it is designed for a library to check out laptops
simple system. solves some of our problems but i would like a system that we can taylor to our busness better. Gigatrak is too rigid

Does what it is supposed to do!
We are still relatively new to TTS. However, the support that we have received from Gigatrak has been phenomenal. Sales support has been great, deployment support has been great, and general support has been great. Their website has a great knowledge base, contains apply defined and specific videos which can be used as reference materials when looking on how to do something.
PROSStep by step deployment and delivery. The software interface is well done. Logically placing things under the right menus. Very easy to check in/check out and place those items into warehouses , if needed.
CONSThe concept of 'bin'ning an item gets some getting used to. However, this is the type of option we needed. We have trailors and on those trailors are dozens of items that are sent out to various sites for training purposes.

Overall, I feel this system has improved the tracking of tools issued to trucks and the tracking of repairs and service made for each tool!
PROSTracking the repairs for each tool is essential for our business in order to control costs and keep track of budget issues.
CONSI would like to have a daily issue report along with the below reorder point report. I would also like a report for inventory received. Last but not least, I would like the ability to return consumable items from employees. Currently I can only change the quantity.

Neat and functional, but clumsy in some areas.
I have been able to use this for what it was meant for, but overall I am doing the work and not the others, due to their frustrations in using the device.
PROSI think the reports are very useful. I can bring up important information within seconds
CONSI think it would be good if you could transfer a tool from job to job, rather than having to check in, then check out again. It is difficult to use the device. Many users were very frustrated

GigaTrak Tool Tracking
We have enjoyed using GigaTrak to track our tools. This helps keep us organized as a company.
PROSIntegrating GigaTrak into our processes was painless and easy. It is very helpful to be able to track who our tools are checked out to. We have had a lot less lost tools because of this software!
CONSI would not consider anything a con with GigaTrak.

We love our tool tracking system!!!
We now have the ability to look and see in a couple moments, what tools are out for repair, what's checked out and the value to each employee, and can recover funds for lost or non-returned items. Plus keep order upon items reaching a certain bin point.
PROSWe have the ability to print any records at any point in time. The system is very user friendly and training to use this system has been a simple process. As a company we have decided to use this system for all fields of work. Not just the test areas (3 toolrooms).
CONSProcess time to receive ink for the Data Card printer that we ordered. Besides that the system seems to be running great.

We have used GigaTrak to better keep track of where our tools are. What jobs they are at, what employee has them, etc.
PROSThe ease of checking in and out tools. We can use the computer software or the scanner. I also like that I can use the app on my phone
CONSGenerating reports could be better. You should be able to sort the results alphabetically rather than just by number. You should also be able to automatically send emails to multiple addresses when sending out reports.

Super organized software!!
We started out with ATS software and then as our need progressed into the need of tracking tools, we comfortably transitioned into the use of this software. It worked great company wide. We were able to keep Electrical and Construction tools separated with in the organization.
PROSIt was very user friendly, I liked the ability to make different categories. locations and have it designed for our needs. The support that comes with the software is amazing and were always handy to help with our needs.
