Canto Digital Asset Management is a content management solution that allows users to create, share and collaborate using digital media files. The product is available both in cloud-based and on-premise deployment options and caters to businesses of all sizes.

The system’s workflow management functionality allows users to manage document versions, approvals, comments and notifications. Users can also define sharing rules for both internal as well as external parties.

Canto Digital Asset Management features document search, which allows users to manage metadata for multiple documents and search files based on keywords and conditions. The product also offers digital rights management, which allows users to manage document licensing, copyright information and workflow management.

Other features include file annotations, image watermarking, a local file server, marketing asset management and social integration.

    Advanced and Visual DAM System

    It's been a great experience. We are extremely pleased with the system, even if it has taken awhile to get all of our assets in order.

    Pros

    Canto hit the nail on the head for our company. We really needed a DAM system that was visual, organized and useful for our B2B business. We were in need of meta tag search capability, allowing images to live in many places at once, and a place to store valuable information like descriptions about our assets. Canto does all these and so much more.

    Canto also has amazing customer service and has always been extremely helpful with answering our questions.

    Cons

    The mass uploader app did not go over well for us. We uploaded everything in bulk thinking it would be faster but we then had to go back and organize everything, which took an extremely long time. In retrospect, we wish we just uploaded everything in batches so we could have entered all the meta information in at the same time.

    I appreciate the tagging features, and the sheer volume of media that Canto can store.

    Cons

    It seems that if you store too many media files, the whole user experience slows down greatly.

    Canto has helped our team create marketing collateral more efficiently by reducing the time spent researching information and searching for data. It's so much easier than running a search for information! I also love that you can preview all of your assets without opening and closing folders on the server.

    Pros

    - All photo assets in one convenient location and can be viewed easily

    Cons

    - Wish we could store our InDesign files / templates in the software

    Moving from a Mac based server where searching things is impossible, this helps me find what I need almost immediately.

    Pros

    I love the searching capability on this software. As long as I keep up on the tags on photos, it makes it incredibly easy to find what I am looking for and has literally saved me hours.

    Cons

    The only problem I had was the learning curve on the functionality, and getting used to how the program is run.

    Canto group and on boarding is great! The tool is intuitive but also evolving to something that can be great. Support just seems to pass the buck. Requests for improved functionality seem to be ignored.

    Pros

    User interface is great.
    Tags and Structured keywords help to divide the nomenclature.
    Ability to see original file without downloading.

    Cons

    The Single Sign On feature needs work to allow mass upload.
    Finding and replacing tags can bee difficult.
    Support seem to pass the buck.

    I really like how easy it is to organize files on Canto. Me and my team get easy access to everything even when we are away from the office

    Canto has a great interface, both on the front and back end. Looks super polished on the consumer-facing side, and the backend uploading process is pretty straightforward and easy to use. Also is a great value as a mid-tier priced program with upper-tier functionality. Great customer service

    Cons

    The cold storage aspect is a nice feature, but it takes a really long time to retrieve an item if you actually need it.

    Managing assets across departments. This platform virtually eliminates requests for assets. It makes everyone more self sufficient.

    Pros

    The easy of use of this product is awesome. There isn't a significant learning curve to getting things set up. The most time spent is on uploading and cataloging assets which has to be done on any platform.

    Cons

    This is a minor complaint but I would like to see a preference or setting feature that allow the admin to extend / shorten the amount of time that a user can stay logged in without getting logged out from the system.

    Overall I am very happy with Canto. In the beginning, I ran into a few issues, but Canto's support quickly resolved the issues.

    Pros

    The "Canto Connect" made it easy for me to upload all our assets and keep them organized. The application created the same folder structure, so I did not have to spend time setting that up.

    Cons

    There is a low character limit on the "Tag" field which makes it hard to copy a large set of tags from a spreadsheet and paste them into the field. At first, I did not notice that my tags were being cut off.

    Our images used to be held in numerous departmental databases (PR, advertising, membership, exhibits, etc) and our designers could not find what they needed without a lot of searching. Worse, staff kept photos on their computers or local drives and then no one could find them at all. Canto brings everything together, allows us to easily track copyrights and use restrictions, allows us to share one or many photos with just a couple of clicks, and the customer service has been fab.

    Pros

    It is intuitive, fast, and has a great UI.

    Cons

    We cab re-size and crop images but I would also like to be able to reduce file sizes. Otherwise there is nothing about it we do not love.

    Canto has really helped our business with the management and dissemination of digital assets. This had long been a pain point for us. I researched a lot of DAMs on the market but couldn't justify most of their pricing. Canto accomplishes what we need at a great value. While the UX can sometimes be a little challenging, I've seen continuous improvement since signing with them, which tells me they're listening and investing in their product.

    Pros

    The best part about Canto, for us, is the Portals feature. They're perfect for us to provide individual dealers with the authorized assets they need, while keeping our internal non-client ready assets separate. We also love the self registration feature which allows us to control who is able to gain access through an invitation code.

    Cons

    The UX is not always intuitive for new users. It's unique from other similar products, so there can be a learning curve for the less savvy. Our customers are less technologically inclined, and don't always understand how to do the basics. It takes some training to catch them up to speed, but afterwards, they're usually able to fend for themselves.

    That I can upload thousands of files at once with tags and meta data, and then once they are uploaded I type just a single word and find all files needed. Canto makes file finding easy. I can set files as pending or approved so that only the right personel are able to view and approve files. I love the mass upload app, it works great and if you needed to, you could even upload your entire server all at once

    Cons

    The navigation on the left side of the site isn't the best, it feels a unnecessary when there is the ease of typing in a keyword and getting exactly what you're looking for.

    Pros

    I love that it's easy to use. It's fairly intuitive, so when I'm looking for things or wanting to change something, it's easy to figure out. The "Smart Albums" at the top are genius and save a ton of time.

    Cons

    The customization of the interface isn't as easy as I'd like. If you're going to use the stock settings, you'll be fine. However, my graphics guy never wants to use stock so it took us a little more effort than we'd like to customize the look & feel.

    Having a more seamless file exchange really helps. Team members are able to go on and search for items without having to ask us first. It is a great place for everyone to store projects so that anyone can have access at any time.

    Pros

    Canto helps ensure that my files are there when I need them. I also like the ability to share items with a link that clients can just click and download the files I have sent them. The more I use Canto, the more I like it.

    Cons

    Nothing yet. the things I did have a problem with we were able to change and fix just by going into the settings.

    Canto has basically overhauled our pervious system setup. After a flood in our building and some IT problems with forgetting to backup our server, Canto was a godsend. It has been great so far, and I'm sure it will only get better from here.

    Pros

    I love that I can have all my files available for search with designated keywords that I choose. Uploading mass quantities of files all at the same time is beyond easy.

    Cons

    The Navigation on the left side of the window is a little clunky, but when I'm just looking for exactly what I need, I can just type in the product name or a keyword and BAM there it is.
