Hive Software


 

Hive is a cloud-based collaboration software tool for small and midsize organizations, primarily in technology-related fields. It is used by project teams to automate and streamline project workflows.

Users can communicate with other team members by creating group conversations or send direct messages for private conversations. Hive also offers integrations with other cloud-based tools and allows users to receive automated updates from integrated systems without leaving the platform.

From within the platform, users can access files from Google Drive, Box or Dropbox. Files can be dragged and dropped onto a message to share them or onto an action to attach them.

Action templates help automate assigning tasks by allowing users to assign the same steps used on previous actions. Users can also toggle between different views, including their individual actions, team actions, progress view or view by labels.

There is a free starter version, and paid versions are priced per user per month. All versions are free to nonprofit organizations. Hive offers mobile apps for both iOS and Android.

It is a great tool

Events are gathered in HDFS by flume and needs to be processed into parquet files for fast querying. The input data contains variable attributes in the json payload as each customer could define custom attributes.

It is part of the ETL pipeline, where hive jobs read json data and generates parquet files that would be queried using impala/spark. Using views, each customer queries only the relevant data

Pros

The syntax of hive! Its almost SQL so its easy to use.
External tables, partitions, buckets, UDFs all the features I like to use with hive. ORC data format occupying lesser space and retrieving the data much faster.
The Hive is intended to simplify your experience with Hadoop and allows developers and business analyst apply their SQL knowledge to query data, build reports, build etl etc.
To be able to run map reduce jobs using json parsing and generate dynamic partitions in parquet file format.



Cons

Hive is comparatively slower than its competitors. Its easy to use but that comes with the cost of processing, If you are using it just for batch processing then hive is well and fine. It also does not have as rich of a scripting language.

It's really customizable. You can view the same project in a lot of different ways. It also great that you have a bunch of separate projects, but can view them all together with summary view. There are just so many options that it really fits the needs of my whole team.

Cons

I wish there were more integrations, but I think they are working on adding more. Also, I would love if they could add time tracking, but besides that there isn't too much I dislike. I had some trouble figuring out the new forms feature, but the customer support team was really helpful in getting that resolved.

This software is really cool if you want to automate things in your house such as your heating and lighting where you can use sensors for when you walk into your house they will turn the lights on automatically. The app they offer is really easy to use and very straight forward. The downside is that sometimes it lags so if a sensor goes off it does not turn the lights on right away. In summary, the idea is really good and the execution is good but the reliability needs to be worked on as it does not always work.

Cons

- HiveQL translates SQL like queries into map reduce jobs.It supports custom map reduce scripts to plugged in.
- Hive leverages the disk in the case of processing large data and is not limited by physical memory of any one machine
- Hive is extensible with UDFs. For any common patterns you can quickly write your own function set and it can be leveraged by everyone.
- I like the feature of customizing it

Cons

- Not a great customer support
- The way we currently have it implemented is quite slow, but I believe that's more of our implementation than the normal usage
- Joining even tends to be slow
- Use Hive for analytical work loads. Write once and read many scenarios. Do not prefer updates and deletes.

The best part about Hive is how you can connect different tools my team and I are already using to it - like Dropbox.

Cons

It is a bit pricey for the functionality, but definitely the best solution to integrate a number of different business tools that we are already using.

Hive brings our entire team into one collaborative workspace, allowing us to replace most emails with chat & task management. Samepage.io is also worth reviewing - haven't tried it but seems to also have a strong feature set at a similar or lower price, and includes video chat.

Pros

* Ability to view work by project, but team members all in one view, and then filter tasks to everything assigned to me across multiple projects
* Chat
* Responsiveness of customer service team via in app Intercom

Cons

* Threaded chat would be nice. This was recently added to Slack, but Workplace by Facebook does it even better
* Filter out actions that have not hit their start date yet, AND tasks that have an unmet dependency. Goal is to focus attention toward work which can be done now, and minimize extra human manual filtering.
* Needs FILTER BY DATE COMPLETED: We're most interested in seeing this available on the "My team" view, but could also make sense elsewhere. While we can filter status view by assignees, projects and status complete, just need this additional ability
* Should be a way to AUTOMATICALLY MOVE URGENT ACTIONS TO TOP: Automatically sort tasks marked "urgent" to top of each respective status list when "Sort Type" "Sort by Priority" has been selected in the project navigator so users don't have to hunt them down and pull them up.

I've been using Hive now for many months, and it has only made collaboration with the teams I work with easy and efficient. It's very customizable, and their team continues to improve the product on a consistent basis. I've only had positive experiences with this product.

Great tool, use it to run my marketing team across US & Canada. Been happy with it for 6 months or so now, and they add improvements quite regularly.

Super simple, pretty much has all the tools we need.

Being a small salon Owner I had spent a lot of time finding an effective and affordable solution. I had never heard of Hive before until they called me at work. The sales person on the phone quickly pointed out its Key benefits i.e. booking, marketing, customer records and EPOS software. Then instead of offering me a trial he offered to give me an online demo on a Monday morning. It only took 15 minutes but I knew how the software worked. Very easy to use and does everything that my salon needs to manage and grow.

Ok so I used this cloud based service and it was great at first i was skeptical but it turned out to be great. I originally was going for this other service they had a $2000+ upfront fee and $269.99 monthly usage fee and I was a new business owner so didn't really want to pay that much then I found Hive which was cheaper by thousands of dollars and saved me a good $1000+ and it has been great been using for about the last few days and my customers love this service and love how smooth and quick it is for them and it is for me. I would totally recommend this service for new business owners or even professional business owners.

Hi Guys,

I'm a beauty therapist in Kerry and our salon uses Hive Salon Software. I thought it would be difficult for all our staff members to get used to it but its so simple, just like using a Smartphone! The diary feature is excellent for making fast bookings and has saved us lots of time to work on other areas such as marketing. They gave us a free online booking tool for our salon Facebook page and website which has really increased sales for us as customers tend to use this service after salon hours, there booking pops straight into our diary. The reports feature is also interesting as it enables our manager to view sales, staff performance and top selling treatments. The main advantage we find using Hive is the price. We use the Silver Price Plan which is ¿69.99 a month and we can use the whole 13 features. All in all this has worked very smoothly for us so far and I would recommend it to anyone in the hair and beauty industry.
