Powerful yet simple!
Overall positive experience and would definitely consider its use again in the future for other projects. It might have all the tools you can have in the world, the basics they have would definitely cover your needs!
PROSThere were many features in Simul8 that we could use that did a multitude of different functions. Simul8 Customer Rep was a big help and managed to find the tools we needed process a large amount of raw data into a simulated result that we were looking and aiming for! Their blog/technical corner was a godsend!
CONSThere was an steep initial learning curve(just like using any new tool) but it became second nature after trial and errors; Graphical presentation is more barebone but the main info more than enough for stakeholders.
Reason for choosing SIMUL8
Simul8 was more affordable than other alternatives and had a great track record of exceedingly good customer service. In the end there were more tools and tricks that we knew we can leverage in the future.

Versatile software for trialing and optimization healthcare processes
We have been able to model several different clinical scenarios in our facility: post-acute care units, outpatient clinic patient flows, and vaccination clinics. We have also been able to optimize schedules to best meet demand by using the OptQuest interface. Building these processes in Simul8 and testing different configurations has saved us many weeks of PDSA trial-and-error testing in the real unit, allowing us to move much more quickly to ideal improvements. This has made our patient experience more pleasant and allowed our staff to focus more on patient care delivery.
PROSBuilding process flows, decision points, distributions, and timings is intuitive. Data visualization tools allow you to see an analyze input and output variables and make reasoned conclusions. Integration with OptQuest can find ideal solutions, saving a lot of trial and error guesswork.
CONSSome of the more advanced features require specific coding syntax that takes time to learn. However, once you get the syntax down, it's powerful. It just takes a little time to get over the learning curve.
Reason for choosing SIMUL8
Simul8 had more features relevant to modeling process flows in healthcare. Arena works well in industrial modeling (as does Simul8), but not quite as well in modeling the variability in healthcare.

Great Tool, Very Powerful!
I work in Healthcase and there are many opportunities to use this software. It's a much better package than some of the others we have reviewed.
PROSPowerful, flexible and visually appealing to our audience.
CONSThis software has significant resolution issues when used on higher resolution laptops. Menu's are cut off and in some cases, are completely inaccessable. Also, getting a current update for the software usually means filing a ticket with the help desk.
Vendor Response
Dave, thank you for taking the time to write a review. User feedback is crucial for helping us improve. We're delighted you've found our software valuable, and wanted to let you know we've addressed the issues you highlighted. Since your review we have resolved all issues with high res display. They were resolved in our 2017 edition. We have also updated our systems so users can download updates from our website at anytime. And of course with our online version they don't even need to download, they're always on latest version. Thank you for your feedback which has fed directly into our product road map.

Easy way of simulation
My overall experience is very good, and is important to note that there is a free license for students which is an amazing opportunity.
PROSSimul8 is very easy and intuitive to implement my system and convert in a simulation, based on LCD´s and the final DCA. All the work items are easy to introduce and connect between them, which saves a lot of time and reduce the probability of errors.
CONSThe Simul8 is amazing but still can improve regarding the graphics. In fact, still use pixels items which reduced the probability to present a Simul8 system during a pitch or professional report.
Reason for choosing SIMUL8
Alternatives can be excel, where you must make everything by hand.

Easy, fast, and powerful simulations.
Overall experience has been great. I have shared this tool with many other sites in Plexus as well as other non-competitive companies as a great asset.
PROSThe best part about Simul8 is how easy it is to pick up. I have easily trained many people how to become powerful users in a short time period to where they can create customer level simulations.
CONSThere are very few minor flaws in the software that are very industry specific. None that are worth mentioning due to insignificance.
Reason for choosing SIMUL8
The price, ease to learn, and quickness to build were unmatched. Other simulations focused too much on aesthetics.
